Crash Bandicoot is pretty dead these days though, oh how I wish Naughty Dog could have the rights back :(
Link is dead, but I read it before. Real shame.
[edit] Nevermind. But it really did 404 30 seconds back.
Refound that old Engineer idea.

It's cool, but I imagine it being hard to make without it clipping horribly with his facial animations or being painfully obvious that it's molded above his normal face.
I know this is probably late or something, but did someone ever decided to replace Pyro Vision goggles with a pair of sun glasses and make a 'They Live' Texture replacement pack for PyroLand?

add a head bodygroup
not possible for any class with facial animations
add a head bodygroup
Can't have facial flexes on a bodygroup.
add a head bodygroup
If they won't add glasses bodygroup for Sniper that has tons of items supposed to replace his glasses, why the devil would they add a whole head bodygroup for Engie :v:
Could someone make a particle-reducer for the pyro's new Rainblower taunt? It's fun but my framerate drops fairly fiercely once the fire-half of the taunt plays if i'm in the center of the taunt as the tauntcamera forces. It's funny, my FPS is fine if i'm even standing even a couple of meters away.

I would pay full price for that hat if it ever got in game :v:
I would really like to do some tf2 props but really the most recent themes have been extremely boring, I think the last one we had was a aquatic theme and honestly there isn't much to do with that. If we did something a bit more diverse I think it may be interesting.
I think the aquatic theme was pretty versatile. A big problem with it, though, is that it has already been done.
I will most certainly not arrange or take responsibility for any map pack effort, but if people are interested, here's an idea I've been playing with.
The Noir/Bureaucracy pack
Basically the classier sibling of the Spytech theme. Polished wooden furniture, a black rotary phone, oil paintings, a coat hanger, designer lamps, expensive carpet overlays, shuttered windows, a neatly folded newspaper... Potentially a 40's Citroën.
One wouldn't be able to base an entire map around such a theme and still keep the TF2 style, but mixed with Spytech and placed inside some other theme it could be amazing.

Sorry to intrude but, would you happen to have a link to the aquatic theme?
I seem to recall the concept, but I can not for the life of me remember any of it and my attempts at finding it with google has yielded no results.

As I linked to the bulletcrops page, I assume you're talking about the facepunch project that didn't go very far. Here it is.
Ah, so it was the same style as the BulletCrops.
Then, I'd still like to see a rapture-esque retro-futuristic underwater city/research base/giant octopus mating grounds/spybase pack :v:
I don't think the problem was the theme, we're just a hard to motivate bunch. I had a few ideas for that pack and just kinda never got around to it.

Had to delete the submission because the concept artist was being a dick.

Perhaps you'd feel more motivated if it was a theme you felt was more exciting to work on though.
I've seen you guys doing collabs/competitions and arguing about the themes before, and generally themes based on fiction tend to strike your fancies better due to being easier and more fun to come up with ideas for.
So here's what I'd suggest:
• Underwater Spybase theme. Rapture-esque retro-futuristic underwater bases with glass tubes, distant enormous aquatic life, and the likes.
• Retro-futuristic Space and Moonbase theme. Glassbubble bases, moon landscape, asteroids, airlocks, etc.
These are overly ambitious ideas, but I think that's what a theme could need for Facepunch to find it fun to work with :v:
I would also be very in favor of Deoderant's Noir theme suggestion though
Retro-futuristic has technically already been done for one of the mod comps, but maybe just a general Spybase theme could work that can cover both underwater and moonbase.

But... Wouldn't an underwater spybase/Rapture-esque theme just be an overwater spybase/art deco theme that the mapper decided to place underwater?
Also, don't take my word to it (since I'm a giant noob at mapping), but I doubt making an underwater map would even be possible. I'm relatively sure below-surface water isn't visible unless you're actually in it.
You may be correct in your assumption that modelers prefer more outlandish themes. As a mapper I think simple themes are nicer to work with because they're more versatile; You can combine them and experiment with them to come up with your own unique aesthetics in a way that you can't with an already specialized theme. Still, I'd prefer an outlandish pack over no pack at all, so if you feel like starting something like that, I support you.
Also, to poop on you parade even more: f I remember correctly, the bulletcrops project includes a folder called 'lunary' which is basically just moonbase stuff. I haven't taken a good look at it though, so I don't know exactly what stuff is included.

Should have said this earlier, but I think tin/metal shakers (like what you'd find in restaurant kitchens) would look/work better. Like this http://www.deusterco.com/contents/media/dredge.jpg but w/out the handle. The metal could be a bit grimy.
Late now, but that's what I would have done.
I know this is a stupid theme, but I wonder if a Pyroland Theme would have any merit, stuff for everyone else
Granted it only makes sense for the pyro since hes the only one who actually sees pyronland...

Yeah so you just don't let people go in the water and simulate water outside windows.
Bulletcrops did it :v:

Everyone else can see pyroland using the goggles.
Cause its his goggles that make him crazy?
Yeah so you just don't let people go in the water and simulate water outside windows.
Bulletcorps did it :v:
but that's what I mean.. Being underwater works fine, but if you place water outside a window you won't be able to see it. Um, wait.. you're right. The bulletcrops pack does include underwater base-themed stuff. Have they made a map with it? How? Did they apply underwatery-looking textures to the window models or something?
I actually barely know what the bulletcrops pack includes. I just downloaded it for the birches.
Also, yeah.. The bulletcrops pack does include undetwater base-themed stuff. That means they preemptively stole both of Simski's ideas.

all you gotta do is make blue fog and have fish swimming around and it's a perfectly believable illusion.
all you gotta do is make blue fog and have fish swimming around and it's a perfectly believable illusion.
That's pretty clever. You'll have to take care not to make any overly long indoor distances though, to prevent a faux-water effect from appearing indoors, right?
Retro-futuristic has technically already been done for one of the mod comps
Retro-futuristic by itself isn't a specific environment theme though. TF2 has plenty of retro-futuristic elements, such as teleporters, advanced turret systems, giant doomsday devices, mediguns, invisibility watches, etc. Retro-futuristic can in this case for example mean "how people in the 50's portrayed sci-fi".
If I said, "Underwater base theme", then that would be different from "retro-futuristic underwater base theme" because the first one can imply that we should invent our own look or use modern inspirations, while saying it needs to be "retro-futuristic" means that it would have to look the way people in the 50's would imagine a massive futuristic underwater base.
The bulletcrops pack does include undetwater base-themed stuff. That means they preemptively stole both of Simski's ideas.
That does not mean that there would be nothing left to make in such themes.
From what I've seen of the BulletCrops underwater parts, it still looked like it would be in more of a submarine or otherwise very industrial setting. I think if you based a theme on "How would an underwater base in a 1950's James Bond story look like?". Basically, it could look a lot more futuristic and grand than it looks in their pack. More advanced technology, deeper down in the ocean, bigger fish.
