The characters are, but their outfits/weapons aren't.
Sniper kinda is. Besides, just because their original model doesn't have nationalistic things doesn't mean they are theme-breaking. I'd argue most of the best hats are the nationalistic ones. [editline]30th June 2012[/editline]
They have always been stereotypes, but not as flanderized as they have become over time. If the classes are to recieve any nationalistic cosmetics, they should be significantly more subtle than things like the Ushanka, Frenchman's Beret, Texas Ten Gallon, and the Glengarry Bonnet. Although those are things that fit their stereotypes, they are significantly more flashy and overbearingly stereotypical than any of the items on the characters original design.
I see cowboy hats all the time up here in rural Illinois they're not exactly uncommon. I can only imagine how many actual people wear them in Texas (especially when they're mercenaries fighting in primarily desert environments) Can't say anything for the rest though
Why doesn't he count? :v: Crocodile Dundee is the epitome of Australian stereotype
Sniper is different from other classes, because his design is mostly based of Crocodile Dundee (I belive.). Original design: [t]http://www.teamfortress.com/images/artwork/concept/sniper3z.jpg[/t] He doesn't count really.
The sniper is part of the game. So yes, he does count.
Basically, the characters should look like they're wearing what they would usually wear when doing their profession. I doubt things like the Ushanka, Brigade helmet, Engineer's Cap, Frenchman's Beret, and Prussian Pickelhaube is something they would decide is a typical or useful part of their uniform. They are good hats, but they are too exaggerated compared to their original designs. The classes wore designed to look like they were using accessories and clothings from their home countries in their uniforms, but they weren't using them to make themselves look good.
Sniper is different from other classes, because his design is mostly based of Crocodile Dundee (I belive.). Original design: [t]http://www.teamfortress.com/images/artwork/concept/sniper3z.jpg[/t] He doesn't count really.
He's an outback assassin for hire, he's just wearing what he wore back in Australia before he was hired as a mercenary. All the other classes are professional specialists in their fields of warfare, Sniper is freelance. (Technically Soldier is too, but tell that to his face if you dare)
Huh, going through the stock items and outfits, the only stuff I would consider vaguely nationality-related are the bat (baseball is a very American sport) and the Bottle (Scotland is known for its whiskey culture). The Kukri is admittedly also a weapon that's very closely associated with its nation of origin, but it's disqualified because I'm pretty sure Nepal isn't Australia. The Sniper's outfit is sort of stereotypically Australian I guess, but it's really pretty standard wear for working in the desert anywhere.

Demoman's armor is kilt-esque.
How do they look compared to the Red version, and how do they look in game?
Demoman's armor is kilt-esque.
See, and that's acceptable. Subtle nationality based clothings, not overly flashy. If it looks like a natural part of their uniforms or like the clothes they'd wear in their home country, it's alright. If it's just there to show off, it's not good. Just natural, like they're wearing it because it's what they would normally wear, not just to show off any sort of nationalistic pride or anything.
He's an outback assassin for hire, he's just wearing what he wore back in Australia before he was hired as a mercenary.
I don't think he was an assassin, but rather a professional big game hunter turned assassin, judging by some of his quotes, and what it says on his bio.
In his former life as a tracker of dangerous game in the unforgiving Australian outback, the Sniper would spend months by himself.
Also, I don't agree with the American War Utilities Scout. He seems more like a regular gangster/criminal turned Merc.
I don't think he was an assassin, but rather a professional big game hunter turned assassin, judging by some of his quotes, and what it says on his bio.
Eh, tomàto tomáto.
Also, I don't agree with the American War Utilities Scout. He seems more like a regular gangster/criminal turned Merc.
His clothings are still that of a scout in the military sense and a very young soldier trained in warfare. He's got a gangster/criminal personality, but it wouldn't fit his original design to base his cosmetics on this. Let's leave that to the modern day design for Scout unlocks instead.
The nationality of the characters is much more dictated by their dialogue and animations than their clothing (accents and taunts)
He is the only character who is designed after something, so no, he doesn't count. He is an exception. A black sheep, if you will.
expect in this case you're saying the black sheep doesn't count in proving that black sheep exist
There's two reasons I asked for a "no cosmetics" rule: 1) The theme is 2007 TF2. What kind of hats could you even make? Things like the Engineer's hardhat or the Soldier's helmet? 2) This is supposed to be a small mini-update, not something like the NotLU where we received more than 100 submissions and it took the team over a month to put together the presentation. This was also supposed to be announced two months ago but the ModComp guys asked Hawf to delay it for the music thing. If it gets to be too big, then it will undoubtedly interfere with this year's Halloween project which I may or may not have confirmed just now.
yeah you did confirm it and also make a thread about it or have Hawf do it so we can stop cloging the emporium with the arguments made from it

Experiments with cgfx shaders and stuff. I still want too clean up the mesh some more, but what I've got so far should be enough too get the idea across, but my main worry is that the silhouette looks too similar too the other mediguns. Also I may design a syringe gun and/or melee too go with it, seeing as how packs these days is the most likely way of getting weapons in. I want too get this model finalized first though. With luck I might actually finish something this time round.
expect in this case you're saying the black sheep doesn't count in proving that black sheep exist
No, more that he's the only person who's not wearing a work uniform since he is freelance and has no professional training in his line of work (Aside from Soldier, who is pretending he does). Every other class is wearing a uniform based on their profession, Sniper is just wearing his normal clothes he wears back in Australia where his line of work does not require any specific clothings.

I'm having issues deciding if the metal should be team colored, or if gold for both teams would fit like the Dead Ringer [editline]30th June 2012[/editline]
Scout's clothes is more civilian than sniper's.
Not so sure if I entirely agree. Scout doesn't have any really overly casual or nationalistic clothings and items. He does however have dogtags and a military cap with a headset for scouting.
Red version: In-game: [T]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/558694186587626716/2000A0DD6AEB42F08B6B4F39EDBF961E953CA17C/[/T] [T]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/558694186587630104/CC81210F11A28165FD7F18ACC072A207E60B45FD/[/T]
That looks great, but could you rotate it 90 degrees? The blade just looks like a rod right now in first person. Incidentally, doesn't this feel like it could have been the vanilla knife? Knife-disguised-as-pen fits in the same spy gadget theme as cloaking-device-disguised-as-watch and disguise-thingy-disguised-as-cigarette-case. Furthermore, on the subject of makeshift inventions, I just made a white russian of milk, calvados, syrup and cold coffee. It's awful. EDIT: Nah, it's actually pretty ok.
I just made a white russian of milk, calvados, syrup and cold coffee. It's awful.
It just ain't the same without kahlua :v: [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] Hmm... maybe I'll make one. I always use too much vodka, and playing TF2 while drunk is awesome.
Scout's clothes is more civilian than sniper's.
No, Scout's set of clothes is a base-ball uniform without the button up shirt.
The design looks like brock from Pokemon :v:
Oh god, now I can't unsee.
Sniper is different from other classes, because his design is mostly based of Crocodile Dundee (I belive.). Scattergun I made this evening. Would it fit the 2007 theme weapon thingy? http://p3d.in/9XCKZ Any suggestions on mesh changing are welcome since I think it looks a bit plain still
Scattergun I made this evening. Would it fit the 2007 theme weapon thingy?
Not entirely sure. I think the original 2007 weapons were highly stock looking weapons, with some few exceptions (Such as Engineer's buildings, Medic's medigun, and Pyro's flamethrower). A 3 barreled rifle looks a bit out of the ordinary.
Seriously though I will give a hat to someone if they make a Sega Saturn Stunner for the Pistol/Revolver/Righteous Bison.
Seriously though I will give a hat to someone if they make a Sega Saturn Stunner for the Pistol/Revolver/Righteous Bison.
the HotD lightgun?
the HotD lightgun?
[thumb]http://www.bakadays.com/wp-content/uploads/week/week24-01.jpg[/thumb] Pretty much, yeah.
