-10% damage
SUDDENLY WORTHLESS
The weapon was already underpowered, now it's even worse. Why? Because scrubs are too moronic to figure out how to counter it. It seems like every new weapon these days necessitates a nerf of some kind, which is a sad commentary on the maturity of this community and Valve's irrational willingness to support it.
Also, the flame particles on the Phlogistinator are identical to the flame particles on other flamethrowers, it just appears to be different due to the fact that the particles are invisible.
It's not a bad weapon, however, I find it pretty much annoying. I mean, I can easily counter it as a soldier if I'm distanced enough from the Pyro using it, but may God help me once Pyro gets his crits. And even though the fact that it can't airblast makes me happy when I go soldier on him, that's the exact thing it lacks, because airblasts can be beneficial to the team too (reflecting projectiles + extinguishing burning teammates) and it takes actually way more skills to pull out air blasting correctly, whenever Phlog gives you mostly only one option and that's W+M1. Oh, and the fact that it has longer range also makes me uneasy, because most of the time I can't back out properly away from the person using it.
In my honest opinion, a good Pyro that uses Degreaser + Maul/Homewrecker (if he can use Reserve Shooter too, even bettter) is a more of a challenge for me than Pyro using only Phlog. While I have to think on how to counter a good pyro with Degreaser, all I need to do against a Pyro with Phlog is pop two rockets directly underneath him. It's just... annoying. Nothing more.
Fixed.
if you run forward with a flamethrower the flame is pushed back due to forward momentum (i dont know maybe valve removed this? but that would be stupid as fuck). It's also affected by turning.
the phlogistonator isn't affected by momentum.
there has been multiple scenarios where it seems i get fucked over by this. like as a pyro, dueling another pyro, circling eachother, my flame pushes off to the side due to momentum while phlog pyro gets full reach and constantly get until i die. a pyro using a backburner should not have a problem taking down a pyro without a backburner, especially if the backburner pyro made the first flame. But I always get owned by this situation.
Why are you using your flamer against a pyro anyways? Switch to your shotgun!
The lack of airblast makes me want to avoid it, because a well timed airblast can save your life.

Well due to my usage of the backburner I can only get in 4 airblasts max and it would suck if a pyro ignited a group of teamates, so I use the man melter. I also use the homewrecker so I'm not gonna melee. The only downfall with flaming a pyro is no afterburn.

Well really, that's your fault. You were unprepared against that weapon because of your loadout. It's the same if you are using an easily deflected rocket launcher and a banner against a good pyro. Sure, it sucks and its annoying for happening, but it's not that weapon's fault, its yours for not being prepared.
Degreaser, reserve shooter and powerjack is my loadout for when they have a lot of pyros. Airblast and shotgun, or airblast and powerjack to the face, the health will make up for what you might lose.
I think the -10% damage was unnecessary.
WHAT THEY SHOULD DO is make it so you aren't nearly invincible while activating the crits, forcing people to use it TACTICALLY.
Not: Hurr I flame an entire group, time to get my free crits in front of all these people meleeing me, lol everyone ded.
I don't think the community is going to be happy until it turns into Pyros own "Natascha"

I can take out other pyros easily with the backburner. It's just the phlog I've had trouble with.
And I was using backburner because it was my only strange :v
But now I use the best combo which is Flamethrower + Reserve Shooter + Homewrecker.
Airblast + reserve shooter to take down pyros. Homewrecker for taking down buildings + sappers.
I don't use the degreaser because I like using afterburn to my advantage (flame&flee, then go geurilla until dead). It's been working VERY good, I die rarely since I started using it.

1 less damage per tick is hardly worth the normal switch time once you are at a level where you can reliably respond and heckle with your secondary as quickly as you can react. Afterburn itself has become a joke with how many things counteract its effectiveness, so the tradeoff is practically a no-brainer unless you're playing against a team that chooses to not use the multitude of options to counter it.
And homewrecker is terrible at taking out buildings unless you're trying to punt a minisentry or a terribly-placed normal sentry. It's just inherent to the fact that it's a melee weapon.
I think it's a great weapon. It's good for clearing out large areas, and restores Pyro back to the "run in and fuck shit up" way of playing.

lol I don't care dude it works for me and I'm good with it.
Homewrecker is awesome I never have trouble destroying something. Unless it's a sentry far away, then I keep peepin around the corner until it shoots rockets and then try my best to airblast them(i fail a lot at this but it works some times and theres not much else a pyro can do against a distant sentry). It also one hits sentries in progress. unless its already upgraded fully and the engie is moving it, then I kill the engie and wreck the sentry before its finished.

Pyros aren't meant to run in and fuck shit up. They are meant to harass, exploit, and ambush.

Flamethrowers are often associated with destruction. Sure, Pyros can be tactical, but realistically someone with a flamethrower would just burn fucking everything.

Well yeah, go for everything. It's just suicide to w+m1 into a group of enemies.

I only do it as a last resort, when I'm at less than 75hp I tend to just burn whatever I can.
