This config doesn't work for me. :( I get the same fps with everything maxed out. With: Without:
Can anyone make a totally reverse version of this? aka trailer quality. (HWM, etc)
To those of you trying to use this, make sure you mark the autoexec.cfg file as "Read Only" so it doesn't get overwritten upon booting, and make sure to add the appropriate lines to the TF2 launch options. Also, Cyrex, I doubt you'll be able to get "Meet the Team" quality ingame, but you could try setting mat_picmip to something like -10, as this will shoot the texture quality through the roof.

Meh, all this did was make my game stay at a constant 30 fps(Altough I think it's 60, I dunno, I've never gotten 60 fps before).

The settings don't look like they are applied.
Looks like you did something wrong. The settings don't look like they are applied.
How can I possibly go wrong with copy + paste? I got the echo in my console that the fps config loaded.
How can I possibly go wrong with copy + paste? I got the echo in my console that the fps config loaded.
Not easily, but if you don't set it to Read Only, some settings can get overwritten during and it can lead to screw ups. Not sure if that's what's going on, but it's one of the possible symptoms. All I can really say is make sure you have it in the right folder, set the Launch Options, and tick off RO. When I was troubleshooting off the last few things, I forgot once, and it ended up defaulting my video settings to the 'suggested' ones for my lappy (which are horribly overshot, sad to say). If you've followed the directions to the letter already, then hell if I know, and I'm sorry for wasting your time. Unless I'm actually sitting there watching you do things, I can't tell what you have or haven't done, and have to assume the worst, so if I'm just barking at a wall here, you'll have to forgive me.
It rapes my resolution and screen brightess! Any way to stop this?
It rapes my resolution and screen brightess! Any way to stop this?
To set the brightness down to what it was before, remove the 'mat_monitergamma 1.6' line, and if you'd like a different resolution, add '-width xxx -height xxx' to your load options next to the -dxlevel command, where xxx are the respective width and height values of the desired resolution.
Is there a way to fix this autoexec so that it doesn't crash tf2 when I want to change my graphic settings? I mean, come on, I can't even change my brightness level without editing the file.
Is there a way to fix this autoexec so that it doesn't crash tf2 when I want to change my graphic settings? I mean, come on, I can't even change my brightness level without editing the file.
It hasn't caused me any trouble when changing video settings in game in quite a while, so unless you're using one of the earliest builds I posted, then I've no idea why it would be giving you said problems. My apologies.
Holy shit, that gets shiny ubers on DX8? I'M SO USING IT Edit: Also, mat_picmip 2 would be better, eyeemmoh.
Holy shit, that gets shiny ubers on DX8? I'M SO USING IT Edit: Also, mat_picmip 2 would be better, eyeemmoh.
Indeed. Shiny Ubers, Gibs, tactile models, the works. You're probably right, setting textures to low would make it run a tad better, but thanks to mat_mipmaptextures 1 and mat_forceaniso 4 you're able to turn up the textures a tad for an increase in quality without much FPS loss to speak of. I should probably post a quick reference for those that want different visual settings...
This made my TF2 very playable, thanks.
i'm running vista and i can't find team fortress 2's configuration files or my username file any advice?
I want an opposite version of this,make TF2 look..."Ubersweet".
What about effects like Smoke trails from Rockets, dust from bullets hitting walls, water splashing from bullets hitting water, Flames, explosions, muzzle flashes, is there a command for toning those down, or a Low Res alternative download somewhere? Because My TF2 runs at a steady 30 Frames per second, reaches 55 and when under water drops to 20, but if I see 10 splashes of water from a shotgun blast, the framerate drops into the teens, then picks up back to 30, and I want to fix that a bit and still have the effect
Wow, Browser back button and these forums do not get along very well, it created a double post
Well, it worked but whenever i try to enter a server it just crashes the game, or if not then it crashes as soon as I choose a class, and if that doesn't get it, the game crashes whenever i try to shoot a player. I would really like this to stop happening, (i get the hl2.exe has stopped working message)

See.
Sorry for the necromancy, but this is the most useful guide I've found for getting better FPS out of this game for a poorer computer without also rendering it into a blocky work of abstract art. But recently I've had a lot of lines in my prompt about how different edits aren't allowed on non-cheating servers. Is using any of this going to get me banned for playing on a VAC server?
Is there a command to turn off the First Blood effect?
But recently I've had a lot of lines in my prompt about how different edits aren't allowed on non-cheating servers. Is using any of this going to get me banned for playing on a VAC server?
They wont get you banned because those edits are only allowed when sv_cheats is set to 1, or at least that's what it says in my console when I start up TF2. Does anyone else get this problem (certain edits not working because of sv_cheats) ? And how would I be able to use the edits on normal servers?
Flagfix file anyone? OP's link is broken.
awesome, this should help a friend of mine out a lot! any pics or vids of this CFG or others like it in action? i wanna know what it'll look like before i recommend it to my friend? i'll try it out myself later, but i was wondering if anybody had any reference pics/vids already. thanks! =)
Used this config, its officially my only config im gonna use. One prob. Whenever I use heavy, my game crashes, help?
