Maybe SoHo IS foundry and they've chopped foundry up to make a koth version!
Now, soho sounds definitely like urban environment.
There aren't any urban maps atm, doublecross, pipeline and foundry are close but not exactly it. This is because the war is semi-secret, and because RED and BLU own only industrial buildings, not towns. Urban map would mean they're not going for the other team's land.
Then again, we might get a usual pipeline-styled industrial district koth map.

I just realised that the whole Tobor thing would be kind of a world-changing event, with the machines going rogue and threatening world safety, and if the Mann vs Machine conflict involves KotH SoHo, then the machines end up attacking New York, maybe with the machine HQ being IN New York itself, possibly being a hijacked Mann Co factory built in "Hell's Hundred Acres", which was what SoHo was referred to as back in the day after the local textile industry went south (no really, it relocated to the South after World War 2).
Also, considering how tricky it'd be to have two teams fighting both themselves AND the machines, as well as weapon upgrades being hard to truly balance outside of a cooperative Horde mode, the possibility of one team being sent in to sort out the mistakes of their corporation/clean up the mess their competitors made with the machine debacle is high.

That explains those car and machinery noises somebody found in the files a while back.
I don't know if anybody noticed this, but...

Why do I get a feeling that the cars would be death hazards driving around the point, like the saws from Sawmill?

That won't really fit the feel of the TF maps: abandoned spytech bases that are hidden in the mountains, desert, and facilities.
Having people other than the 9 classes (and boss characters) in the maps just feels strange. They're bloodthirsty mercenaries that are intentionally isolated from the general public for the very reason that they're lethal threats to themselves and everyone around them. Don't expect for any non-mercenary to make an appearance in a map unless they've got a deathwish.
Since I know Neji from a french community he has a thread about a map he is/was working on. This may not be related since this one seem to be a koth and his a ctf but hey.

Well it'd be pretty easy to convert a CTF map to a KOTH one, but either way that's a nice looking map.
Why is it that the original maps for TF2 were all pretty much somewhere in a desert, but as we've moved forward, we've been getting progressively more snowy maps, which are the exact opposite.
Personally, I want more maps of the Alpine art style. But not the rainy ones like Nightfall or Sawmill. I love Lumberyards style so much.
swamp pls

An opposing side centric map would be hard to turn into a middle centric map
Why was Egypt added officially anyway? AFAIK the mercenary wars only take place in the United States. I'm not saying that Egypt is a bad map, it's just that it looked like a completely random decision.

both BLU and RED both own half of the world, battles don't just take place in the United States, they take place all over the world. So egypt is not entirelly random
Wait, aren't most of the desert maps in Australia?! Weren't the Mann from Australia? Or is it Hale the only one?!
Wait, aren't most of the desert maps in Australia?! Weren't the Mann from Australia? Or is it Hale the only one?!
Most maps in TF2 take place in western U.S.A. and Mexico.
This one would probably be on india. :D

they are from Australia but Redmond and Blutarch convinced Zephiniah to buy land in the states and expand their company, then split it in two equal halves to fight over

but considering they were a big company to start with, their states failure was probably the last thing they bought and is possible that land all around the world was purchased beforehand

For some reason i've always thought most of it took place in Australia. I was wrong the whole time it seems.
If this map turns out not to be what we think. I'd like to see someone make a New-York/city styled map. Just to see if it would work.

Considering that the story of the game was developed AFTER the game was released, the idea that the teams are associated with Australia is a relatively new lore change that wasn't part of the original design. To make sense of the conversion of the from TFC maps to TF2, they had to find a way to make the desert-like theme fit well with the new cartoony 50/60's theme, and so they choose to have it take place in the dry areas of northern America.
It is only recently that we've gotten such themes as lumberyard, sawmill, egypt, upward, cold front, harvest, etc. The original theme was very strictly spybases disguised as red farm vs blue industries in rural desert areas.
the maps in the game show that bases can be found pretty much everywhere in the world.
Egypt is just an odd style change, but there's nothing wrong with having a base in old Egyptian ruins. James Bond has done it before.
It's just the style of the map doesn't really emulate the egypt bases of Bond.
Wait, aren't most of the desert maps in Australia?! Weren't the Mann from Australia? Or is it Hale the only one?!
Saxton Hale is the son of Barnabas Hale, who was Zepheniah Mann's aide and tracker when he went to America. Barnabus is from "savage" Australia. Zepheniah was probably British. As per the 2009 Halloween update, Zepheniah's holdings were in the American frontier. Given that the Christmas 2011 comic was likely not taking place in Australia due to prior images of Australia, it can be assumed that the map of "all maps in the Australian badlands" is in-fact a fabrication and inaccurate. The evidence doesn't stack up. There is more saying the maps are international/American than purely Australian. Also, what we've seen of Australia shows it as a futuristic moustachio'd and technologically advanced fightocracy.
Yeah, Australia is also 500 years ahead of the world.
So I guess you wouldn't see 20th century architecture there.
TF2 comics have some really silly parts that they never look at again and were just one off jokes and probably aren't really canon. Future Australia is probably one of those.
