The damage reduction isn't nearly as bad as the after-burn nerf. After-burn was one of the primary sources of kill-points for most Pyros I've seen, and now it takes an incredibly skilled/lucky Pyro to get high up in the score-board or be useful besides putting people out (which the need isn't so dire now that after-burn doesn't last as long) or puffing away uber-charges (I've been practically sent back to spawn by air-blasts before :/).
How about shooting back? Do you really just stand there looking at the Pyro blast you while you burn to death?
Point your mouse cursor at something.
Now have someone push your elbow while you try to keep the cursor on it. It's rather difficult to aim when you keep getting shoved around like that.

It's kinda hard when your connection is terrible so you keep jumping around and not being able to aim, and even worse is the fact that the spies revolvers are worthless pieces of shit.
Also, I'm a melee spy. I already stated that. I only use the revolver from far away and on scouts that are running backwards with the FAG.
If you ask me, the best way to fix W+M1 is to add some kind of overheat timer to the flamethrowers, so if you hold down the trigger long enough it'll overheat and disable for a few seconds.
I like the general idea, but flat out disabling the Flamethrower on overheat pretty much removes one of it's fun pluses: Being able to serve as a literal firewall at a doorway if a Dispenser is set up right.
I say let the fire always spew forth, but make the particle spread narrow and the direct damage dwindle if the fire button is held down for an extended period of time. Like a robot dinosaur that shoots laser beams when it roars.

Actually, the spy's revolver is one of the better weapons in the game. The only downside I have for it is that it's so pinpoint accurate that it becomes hard to aim for me. A lot of times I rely more on the spread of weapons to hit, rather than actually being accurate.
The only thing you can do with the leafblower now is sit next to an engineer with the homewrecker and keep spy checking, funny how they turned it to some crappy support class, the most offensive thing you can do is scare rocket launcher soldiers away spamming Mouse2.
And i don't even have the backburner... FUCK
Well this is why I'm currently using the Back Burner.
Pre-update
BackBurner<Flamethrower
Post-update
BackBurner>Flamethrower
If they made the regular flamethrower have a longer range or give back some damage to it and removed the same amount from the back burner (give the flamethrower 10% more dmg, take away 10% from the backburner), it would be evened out.
But against a demo/soldier on midrange, the flamethrower is always superior.
This update enhanced the pyro's ability to airblast the hell out of ubers, and he can defend turrets more easily (airblast things AND the hammer). While he's not to good in combat now, he's gotten obscenely good at killing off enemy pushes with ubers and killing turrets.
I much preferred the old pyro.
One thing I disagree with is his opinion on axtinguisher. He used a fucking scout. You can't do that with a heavy, to kill a heavy like that you need to puff and cut.the flame simply will not do it fast enough.
Still waiting on a way to kill heavies.
Still waiting on a way to kill heavies.
So I heard there was this unlock for the pyro coming out called the axtinguisher.
So I heard heavy can kill a pyro in under 2 seconds.
Theres this silly thing called damage spread and latency compensation...
Seriously, this is why 9/10 times the pyro get you (me), even if you nail the asshole in the face with a ton of bullets. >:c
So I heard there was this unlock for the pyro coming out called the axtinguisher.
So i experienced ingame that, while playing as pyro its next to impossible to kill a Heavy being healed by a medic now. Before the update i would just jump out and "Puff & Sting " the heavy, but now he extinguishes before i can hit him the third time.
Well, the pyro's been nerfed beyond belief, Although I hated his antics, the nerf was too hard on him.
I have an idea. Don't think of The Backburner as the unlock, think of the Flamer as the unlock.
The pyro was meant to be a cqb and ambush class, hence the crits from behind given by The Backburner. The Flamer on the other hand, has all the properties of an unlock, sacrificing damage for an alternative way to play the class, as a way to neutralise rockets and move stickies.

Food for thought.
Doesn't really change anything. I'm not trading in the airblast.
I play arena alot, So I've found I'm using backburner and shotgun more than pre-update due to this nerf.
I was always using flamethrower + shotgun in arena PRE-UPDATE, but since valve nerfed after burn it doesn't work so well anymore :smith:
With this pyro nerf and the heavy buff, fighting heavies as a pyro is impossible.

Nah if you work quick the axtinguisher you're golden
I noticed the time you're on fire have been decreased.
yeah, 6 seconds now
[editline]12:21AM[/editline]
I think
[editline]12:22AM[/editline]
I've always considered pyro as a support class, so perhaps that is why this supposed nerf doesn't really bother me.
Nah if you work quick the axtinguisher you're golden
I'd challenge you to 1v1 heavy vs pyro and make you eat your words like the sandvich I'll shove down your throat, but I'm in australia so it's not going to happen.

In our hypothetical battle I hypothetically beat you.
He's slowly but steadily turning into his TFC counterpart. Has fire, but burns no one.
Attention Pyros,
Kill the Medic first
yours truly, a Pybro.
Attention heavies,
turn around more often goddamn, these pyros won't leave me alone
Love, Medic
Attention Medics,
I can survive a couple seconds of afterburn, just DON'T uber me while I'm pushing the cart during Overtime!

Attention heavies,
Don't turn around, ever.
