How'd you fix the LOD problem?
I changed the way I was merging my vertices. In Blender, I had been using the collapse feature which, as suggested, creates a new vertex that is getting weighted incorrectly. For the offending vertices, I had to merge>last to get it to work. It destroys the UV, but it's not that critical since it's only a dozen verts and you can be creative to avoid crazy texture stretching. It's not a long-term fix, but it got this model finished, which is all I really cared about tonight, lol.
I kind of just realized how horribly we treat each other I mean for god's sake we chased away Royzo and with all the shit we talk about on the emporium chat god we can be just the WORST fucking people.
Honestly, I think both Ronin and Psyke get a ton of hate because of where they are. Think about it, both of them are incredibly admired by a great amount of the community, they constantly pump out new item, valve themselves loves to communicate and put in more of their stuff, while others just continue to go un-noticed. Ronin is an all around good guy, maybe not the most net savvy around but he's mature and enjoys what he does and wants to expand upon it. His work is interesting and often creative, and he knows what he's talking about more then half the time when he gives out a critisism. If anything, given his popularity Ronin is incredibly modest, he could be an arrogant ass who treats everyone like they're far below him, he has a case of large ego at times but it's well concealed and he doesn't act like he's a god. Psyke is a little arrogant, sure, he's brash, loud-mouthed; and flaunts the un-dying fuck out of his self mades, but he tends to be a nice guy aside from his work. He's a nice guy to talk to and can be real nice, granted it's next to impossible to play tf2 with him because he'll follow you around the map with his sparkeling loadout and do the Schadenfreude non-stop. But outside of tf2 he's a nice bloak.
looks very very good. I'm liking the contrast though i prefer a more subtler contrast at that. (darker woods and greys) nice unique model.
That really means a lot to me. Thank you for the compliment.
If y'ah ask me the barrel looks a little to new compared to the rest of the metal on the gun.
I haven't gotten around to doing small details like highlighting and really only worked on the ammo drum and top part. I will get around to it and make it look purrty. :3
Also, this is just me sayin' But the holes look a bit too big. Try to make 'em smaller and not along the whole barrel. Like, 3 / 4ths of the holes would look good imo. Then again, it's just a suggestion.
I get what you mean, but to me, aesthetically, I like the holes that I put in. But thank you for the input on it. :D
Jesus i sure do tend to say nice a lot when I talk about people. I need a thesaurus or something.

Worked on the ammo can helmet for the soldier. I gave it a much better UV and added dents to the mesh instead of needing to normal map them. I am looking for a good texturer for this as well if anybody is interested.
Any reason the edges of the dents are marked as sharp?
Because it looks like shit otherwise, shading gets all weird *edit* Well thats what was happening but I may have fixed it for the most part
One minor nitpick, but shouldn't the two brands of beer be Red Shed and Blu Streak?
I thought about that as well; I just felt that the Old Geezer logo was more subtle as opposed to those brands, which appear more noisy in my opinion Who knows, if people really want it, I could make an alternate texture/style then
I seriously need help with texturing. I'm looking at textures in tf2 for reference, but I just can't do it myself. It's like all I do is just put random square blotches, and it looks like utter shit It's like I just can't do it. Can't anyone help?
I had to merge>last to get it to work. It destroys the UV,
That how I've always done my LODS. Merge>Last and then after I finish deleting vertices I go and fix any UV problems. I didn't know there was another way.

I'll also release a jiggleboned version as a mod when I get back.
GUYS is there a pda slot now is there really a pda slot
GUYS is there a pda slot now is there really a pda slot
You better believe it, hun. Now when're you gonna get to work on that Ronin set for soldier? :v:

Maybe if you stopped usurping the success of others, and developed a creative talent of you own, and were less smug about the whole thing, people would be more accepting. You know what? I think I've only started to dislike Ronins work a lot more since he started this 'partnership' with you. His stuff was always typically 'out of your face' and modestly displayed before. I even used to have nice conversations with him on steam. I can't pin down why this is exactly. Maybe it's got something to do with you following me into servers wearing the brown bomber and using the Schadenfreude taunt on repeat.
You better believe it, hun. Now when're you gonna get to work on that Ronin set for soldier? :v:
!!!!!!! I totally forgot about that! God damn! [editline]23rd March 2012[/editline] Does it have to be Soldier though? I mean, the Steel Ronin is a sort-of samurai, but I bet it'd be annoying to get to work with Soldier.

I find it's a royal pain to delete multiple edges and loops without destroying the UV or messing up the mesh with triangles. I've been using 2.4 for the job until Bmesh has been merged into trunk recently. (and it was about time, if you ask me) One of the main features of Bmesh, is that you'll finally be able to make ngons (without getting retarded triangles everywhere when using the knife tool) More info about Bmesh here It hasn't been officially released yet but you can find a build in the Graphicall.org site. It is expected to be in the next release though. However, there are 3 things that you have to keep in mind: -bmesh is still under development, so I wouldn't fully recommend making your models with it completely, until 2.63 is out. -the export smd tools hasn't been updated to the new mesh system, so you need to keep the version you're currently using. I bet the author is waiting for the next release. -luckily, you can open the new blend files in older versions. However, and this is extremely *important* you must do this every time you're making changes in your model and want to save them: > File > Save As > Check "Legacy Mesh Format" If you leave it unchecked and open the file in an earlier Blender, the model will only have edges or worse, vertixes. What I do is leave both old and new blender programs open and check the mesh for missing faces. (I experienced that if you leave a n-gon in the model, that face will be gone, even in the legacy mesh format.). You can try triangulate faces where it's necessary. It's quite a workaround but I'm able to export smd's while using the new system. Always backup your files and use it with caution! If you do forget to backup, you can rename the ".blend1"/".blend2" copy of your file into ".blend" as last resort. But you can easily prevent that by copying the file you're working on and renaming them to lod1_modelname in the first place.

Soldier just seems to have the katana, the flag-backpack set and such for the set, so a lot of the kit's already there. Still, you don't need to make it if you don't wanna. I felt it'd be a cool idea and you can work on what you like, really.
Nah it is a cool idea and I like the steel ronin so I'm gonna make it
hecates did his basecolor tests before going to bed, unfortunately he didnt post them so i will, and i will post mine aswell this is his most finished one and this one is my expirement (wasnt too sure on the laser) this one is stil experimental as is mine i would have made the suggestions i did to mine, but he went offline hours ago, so i got bored and made my own (and was even bored enough to post them the same way as the images he gave me)
