I've heard 64-bit is bugging in some programs. And why is 64-bit better? (Im not good with computers) Recommend me a GPU.
You have 4GB RAM, it screams 64-bit. 64-bit XP was buggy as hell, 64-bit 7 is just, perfect. 64-bit OS supports 64-bit applications which means that they work faster (in theory double the speed, in practice around 10-50%). I use Nvidia 250 GST, cheap and run any new game on max. [editline]22nd October 2010[/editline]
Rich? Bragging? Those specs aren't even that good at all. These are basically the settings I'm running at: [img_thumb]http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/3285/ctf2fort0001m.jpg[/img_thumb] I average around 120 FPS at all times. I haven't noticed any performance drops since the newest update. So I'm not sure why you guys would be having such huge dips in framerate. I can't imagine the game would run that terribly even on hardware that's a few years old. TF2 came out in 2007, after all. I think it's just the sheer amount of shit they've added to the game. Takes up a huge amount of memory, and a lot of it isn't optimized very well.
Is this max settings? Looks kind of blurry compared to my screenshot.
I've heard 64-bit is bugging in some programs. And why is 64-bit better? (Im not good with computers) Recommend me a GPU.
Don't buy Nvidia. A few years ago they were pretty good, but they're complete shit now. The quality has dropped like a rock. Buy ATI, seriously. They're reasonably priced, cheaper than Nvidia, and they're far higher quality. And yeah, you should definitely get a 64-bit operating system if you're running more than 2 GB of RAM. Like, seriously. 64-bit XP may have been shit but Windows 7 64-bit runs like a dream. Most people wouldn't notice the performance increase in different 64-bit applications compared to their 32-bit counterparts (aside from the increase in RAM, of course), but even then it's just much better.
:frog: Bullshit and Bullshit.
Have fun with your defective GPUs and wood screws.
This GPU any good? http://www.webhallen.com/hardvara/111358-asus_geforce_gtx_465_1gb-pci-e 1490 kr ~223.296 USD
Have fun with your defective GPUs and wood screws.
I had 3 ATI cards, all of them had some kind of problem (especially this broken CCC), switched to Nvidia, not a single problem since then. Also, Chekko already uses Nvidia card, ask him if it's "defective" or not. [editline]22nd October 2010[/editline]
This GPU any good?
I had 3 ATI cards, all of them had some kind of problem (especially this broken CCC), switched to Nvidia, not a single problem since then. Also, Chekko already uses Nvidia card, ask him if it's "defective" or not.
I had an Nvidia a couple years ago. It was great. Nvidia's newer cards tend to be plagued with problems, however. And their shit is terribly overpriced. I switched to ATI about a year ago and I've never looked back. Works like a dream. Seems hit or miss either way. I wouldn't recommend Nvidia at all since ATI is far better priced and reliable in my experience. But whatever floats your boat.
Bragging? I thought my specs were shitty. Oh well. Sorry for the misunderstanding, then.
Nah, I was talking shit, sorry for that, I was simply so frustrated that even running at 800x600 didn't fix the problem that I didn't really look into your post, the first thing I saw was "quad". But I have been using this old P4 for years, never had any problem with HL2 or GMod, or even TF2, and all of a sudden, the game becomes completely unplayable. Seems like a memory problem, but I tried killing as many processes as I could, it didn't improve anything at all.
OP, if you have a decent amount of cash to spare, I suggest you get a new computer. I replaced my failing old one (dell dimension 5000) with a brand new custom built one - set me back a little less than 200 quid, but I tell you, it is worth it. Before my average fps for tf2 was ~20, now it's ~80. And consistently too. I cut down as much as I could on prices, getting the lowest I could find for each thing (while still being decent), but now it's up to date. I tried everything before and tf2 insisted on a pathetic FPS. Sorry for how annoying this must sound, but I assure you, it's probably cheaper than you'd think.

The wood screws thing you mentioned doesn't happen in production models, they have excellent performance and only overheat in shit airflow cases. As for price/ performance. The GTX 460 would like a word with you. Cheaper than the equivalent ATI card in most cases. Especially the reference board. Speaking of GTX 460, even with this card I am still getting low FPS on TF2, out of all my games (Crysus included). TF2 is the only one to get me into single digit FPS at times. It's annoying, but t doesn't happen often.

It's like saying you should get a new car when your tires are rubbish.
Maybe its particles. My GPU's bottleneck is particles, too many on the screen fucks my FPS

How will i know if it fits my motherboard/case/whatever?
Should say in specifications under dimentions, match them with your motherboard and case dimentions. Also make sure your motherboard has a 16x PCI-express slot if you're getting a high end card.
And make sure your PSU is powerful enough. Underpowereing a part is not a good idea. At all.
And how do i find that out? I've never even opened my case before.
Go to the PC Building section; it has all you need to know. I have a decent computer by my standards, and rarely have any problems with TF2 framerate. My specs 8gb of DDR2 ram AMD Athlon™ II at 3.0GHz SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4650 Windows 7 64-bit Premium High models, High textures, DX9, no AA though on 1360x768. [img_thumb]http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k233/1piecefan/cp_orange_x30004.png[/img_thumb] Get around 150-240 in spawn, 60ish while on the field and 30-50 in battle. Can dip to 10-20 when there's a lot of shit going on, but not very often.

I run the game with these specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit Intel Pentium E5200 2.50 GHz ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
Just a heads-up: reducing graphical settings most often won't have a lot of effect seeing the biggest problem of TF2 is its CPU usage rather than graphical
Just a heads-up: reducing graphical settings most often won't have a lot of effect seeing the biggest problem of TF2 is its CPU usage rather than graphical
Indeed. I reduced graphics before. It didn't help what so ever. Reducing shadows to low gave me a wee bit more FPS tho.
I suffer from extreme FPS drops at random intervals on all Source Engine games. Unfortunately I don't think it's any update's fault. A while back my laptop had to get its motherboard replaced and it hasn't run source smoothly since then.
FYI, this is the fault of your registry. For this reason, it's worth installing SourceTools to clear out TF2's registry settings because unused settings are still called upon from YEARS ago.
