TF2 and other Source engine games update for 7/20/12 (7/21/12 UTC)

Wondering, I've been having problems with my taunts (Schadenfreude, High Five, Director's Vision). For example when I had the Director's Vision equipped, it'd play the Schadenfreude. Did that get fixed too?
Or was I the only one with such problems?
I am all up for patches but why exactly is this 3 gigs?

Yes, I know I have fucking terrible internet ;~;

No I was getting that as well. Kept having the problem despite restarting the game and steam.
EDIT: If you opt in and don't like it, toggle tf_quickplay_beta_preference.
Haaah, you can "opt in" even without being selected by changing it to 1. Awesome.
It also appears it's a random 10% of the TF2 community that was selected, judging by tf_quickplay_beta_ask_percentage

Actually, no, I just tweaked the variable to 100 and it gave me the "would you like to opt in" message after setting preference back to -1 (default). Perhaps there's a certain chance that you're allowed to use the beta when you start the game (/start for the first time after this update)?
press escape in the lobby and I get this in the console

wat?
Glad they fixed the missing water textures on DX 8. :)
Was the all class hats glitch the thing where my hat would always look messed up on my head? If so, thank god that's fixed...

no, that's still there. The bug was that only one all-class item could be equipped at any time. So you couldn't use the pan on both scout and demo.

I'm glad that other people are aware of the hat glitch that makes your hat appear two feet above your head, or digging into your skull. Does anyone know why it does this, or when they will fix this annoyance?

The game uses the hat from the wrong class. Ever since around Manniversary (I can't recall exactly when), instead of having 1 model that has unique positioning on each class, there are 9 models with their own rigging and etc.
Something got botched along the way and sometime the wrong class' item will be used instead. For instance, I had a Spy wearing the Demoman's Pyrovision Goggles yesterday, I knew because of the distinct lack of a left lens.
it always uses the model of the first class you picked wearing the item until you join a new server.

It's most likely that Steam is redownloading corrupt files.
I still crash.
Worst. Update. Ever.

I really hope it doesn't see my mods as corrupt files. They're mostly texture improvements and personal models.

Mod content doesn't affect steam content. The GCFs that have the actual TF2 content in them must've messed up, so you're probably redownloading files like 2fort or the gibus model.
That's why I always keep backups of all my Steam games on a portable hard drive.

Yeah, it should leave stuff like that alone as it isn't a default part of the game

It doesn't crash when it leaves the server, it just hangs a bit instead of instantly leaving. Try giving it some time.

Yeah, I occasionally hang as well. Would be nice to see a fix for it, but it's nothing game-breaking and I can wait for a bit.

No, what your describing is what I've experienced normally prior to both updates.
Now it just crashes after every map.
I wonder what kind of water fix they did for dx8 because i still see purple/black textures.

In that case, try verifying and defragmenting your game files.
