Watch now as the mapping scene for TF2 gets completely abandoned. It's worthless to make maps now.
the amount of items in the world don't mean fuck if there's not a good map to play them on modelling and mapping go hand in hand, you can't make a game out of models nor can you make a game without them using only maps.

I almost had a hart attack. God damn Valve, what am I supposed to do now. Try my best to get my stuff into the game, risk being poor for months, or do commissions and be financially almost stable. :smith:
its... its like twisting the knife into the wound ;(
No joke. I could've lived off of that one check for a couple years. :saddowns: It's like getting dick-slapped with a whale cock: you're crushed far more than you are humiliated.
I really wish I hadn't given up on modeling now.
Gearbox, as stated below. But I'm thinking of something a little more practical, like dealing with the mountain of grad school loans from the Guildhall. Wouldn't be working in the industry at all without those, so it works out great. :)
Girl, Model me a sandwich! :v:

Oh let me check on the sales of my Virtual items. Oh look i can afford to buy a new car, in cash. Brb Modelling
Jealousy mode activated.
My hat is in the store holy flying bat man swinging balls on toast I'm going to be rich.
I agree, though the implementation of that is tricky. But I suspect you know little about the process of modeling for games, by your last statement.
Actually mapping is a far more time-consuming process than modeling, however, modeling is far more important, as it provides a bunch of blocks with spice and detail. I cannot judge whether one is more difficult than the other though, because I never modeled.
My hat is in the store holy flying bat man swinging balls on toast I'm going to be rich.
my um my hat is i :(
Wow. Well guess who're my new best friends. Also, if that's just royalties on like 15 items, imagine the amount Valve got themselves on everything. Keys, Paint, EVERYTHING.
Have had 3DS MAX forever, no good tutorials either. Fuck it. I will never be able to model.
my um my hat is i :( [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/900111/whine.jpg[/img_thumb]
Are they selling your axe yet? I'm sure you can get a few pennies off of that..
my um my hat is i :( [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/900111/whine.jpg[/img_thumb]
I was actually going to speak to Robin about that. I think they should do a commoner version and sell that. And have a special version with sparkles and something else that'll make it unique. I'm having 20% by the way. :buddy:
You're having fuck all you common parasite. :buddy: [sp]that'd be awesome[/sp]
Are they selling your axe yet? I'm sure you can get a few pennies off of that..
Literally pennies I'd imagine :v: I haven't even heard of the stupidest of the stupid buying weapons from the store (that aren't the rocket jumper/gru)
my um my hat is i :( [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/900111/whine.jpg[/img_thumb]
That's retarded that sucks on ice. Everyone who got a hat in should be getting a cut of the money, wow they can't do that right?
Actually mapping is a far more time-consuming process than modeling, however, modeling is far more important, as it provides a bunch of blocks with spice and detail. I cannot judge whether one is more difficult than the other though, because I never modeled.
I know that mapping is time consuming, my boyfriend's an LD and bitches about how long it takes to create levels all the time, lol. Plus I'm working with another level designer friend on that Market map, and he spends countless hours on it. Modeling is a very different process, and the amount of time required obviously varies depending on whether it's a simple prop, a fully rigged character, etc. But they both require a lot of technical ability, artistic foundation and experience to do well, and shouldn't really be compared simply on those terms.
Wow holy shit they just got a free year to a good college.
That's retarded that sucks on ice. Everyone who got a hat in should be getting a cut of the money, wow they can't do that right?
They can. The money given out was based on sales of the item. Kinda sucks for those who's items aren't being sold, or contributed to TF2 in other ways, but that's just how it is. Now, who wants to buy me a bottle of vodka?
And that's why the proceeds of ALL store items should be split among all contributors. The creator of 4 items that Valve gave great attributes doesn't deserve 50x the money of a map creator. Payments like this are encouraging people to make hats rather than great maps / weapons. The proceeds should be split between all TF2 contributors. NeoDement makes great stuff. His Wiki cap being free and his axe being all over the place is no reason for him to receive almost no money, while the creator of a Set Hat makes a ton of money. A creator of a great map doesn't deserve 1/50th of what someone makes for making 3 Set items. I'm assuming Valve will change how this works, but if they don't, its seriously screwed up. It also relies too much on what attributes Valve assigns. Oh, this weapon gives 20% ubercharge saved, while you lose 10% of your health? Most people would choose the Ubersaw, so you only get $300. Oh, your hat can only be received by purchasing it for 1 week after release, and it gives +25HP if worn with a set? Here's $50,000. I'll never model anything, so I'm not jealous or whatever. I'm simply mad that Valve is creating too much of a focus on a specific type of item to be contributed. Maps take a ton more work and are much more needed than hats, and Valve is paying the exact OPPOSITE of what is needed here. Even weapons are essentially shunned by this payment scheme... why make a cool weapon, which will surely be put into the drop system, when you can make a $40,000 hat as part of a 3-item set? This pisses me off.
Not even going to lie, I'm jealous as fuck.
wonder if valve's own modellers are jealous :v:
And Valve will never sell maps which is a great thing as a player of TF2 but sucks since I'm a mapper and won't get paid if I made a TF2 map which people thought was worthy to play
at least we'll be getting a fuck load of new weps and hats now
Wow holy shit they just got a free year to a good college.
fuck college i have a career in selling virtual hats somebody is buying this shit !
Well to be realistic here won't the store suddenely dropoff in that because the hats are on purchase won't there come a time (not to far off) when everyone owns that hat or the specific hat they want so the demands Is going to suddenely plummit in 6 months or something, at this rate anyway. Right?
This just in: Smashman is a pretty nice guy. Re: Selling the Wiki Cap?
(With slightly less awesome and no shine) So you'd be up for it? And I can have a cut? :D

Forget it then. :v:

Wow holy shit they just got a free year to a good college.
not quite. Guildhall is more than that. :(
