I hate when people say that I have no skill because I use the Sydney Sleeper. I use it because A) it helps my team, making some medics uber before they should and some heavy die way faster, and B) When I hit, let's say, a scout running at me, I just take out my smg and mini-crit him till he dies.
Or... you could just headshot the medic and kill him, completely denying their uber? Killing people helps your team a hell of a lot more than maybe scaring off a guy one time.
My demoman loadout for BLU is Grenade Launcher - Sticky Jumper - Ulapool Caber I call it the parademo. I jump in, behind enemy lines, and destroy sentry nests with my grenade launcher. My priority target though is snipers. They are the perfect target for my ulapool and it kills them in one hit. I believe that I'm punishing them for being (largely) useless to their team. This is a one way trip though. I rarely get the chance to jump back to safety. My other loadouts include pure sticky bomb launcher, an Expert's Ordnance + choice of secondary and my exchangeable melee loadout. I keep the ulapool on that one too, just for lolleries. Am I a good person?

Am I a good person?
expert's ordonance + sticky jumper works well. Normally I'm the strictly vanilla demo kind of guy, but since the jumper lets you get away from and into fights, you'll find yourself going to the resupply locker more often, at which point the loch n load's small clip and the caber's unique use system will not matter that much anymore. What this accomplishes is that engineers never build nests with the sticky jumper in mind (and as an highlander engie I know what I'm talking about); that means the sticky jumper and loch n load can help you accomplish ludicrously fast nest destructions. of course you're gimping yourself in case of a light class encounter, or even against the engie himself. But hell, does it matter when you can sticky jump back to your base?
Ohhhh, the Para-Demo, that sub-class is so fun to troll with, especially on 2fort maps. I would highly suggest the Loch-N-Load too, really fun for those tryhard snipers that barely inch out of spawn.
I often find myself wishing there were some way I could use a shotgun and a lunchbox as a Heavy at the same time. Fat scouting.
I've been using the Scotsman's Skullcutter after I got NeoDement to sign one for me. It's fun getting 234 damage criticals. Using it with the Bootlegger and Chargin' Targe because it's lulzy and I'm wearing a Buccaneer's Bicorne also crafted by NeoDement. I sorta wish the Skullcutter granted a defense buff on kill. A bit like the KGB's 5 seconds of crits, but it'd be 5 seconds of Battalion's Back-Up buff. This only works in normal play though, it'd break medieval. Lol.
I never EVER want to be "that guy", but I must concede. There are TWO weapons that prove a total lack of skill for just being totally over-powered: The Soda Popper (GET MINICRITS FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY FUCK-ALL, THEN 1 SHOT EVERYONE!) and The Liberty Launcher (THE ROCKETS FIRE AT MACH 10, JUST SHOOT EVERYWHERE, YOU'RE BOUND TO HIT SOMETHING.) seriously, I hate saying "oh, X is a NOOB weapon, get a REAL gun", but this shit's infuriating. all they have to do is nerf the Liberty Launcher's damage slightly, maybe remove its ability to crit, and make the Soda Popper's Hype build through damage dealt or something.
I hate the soda popper too, although the liberty launcher only bugs me when I play pyro and can't airblast the fuckers.
I've mainly been playing vanilla classes but have started to crawl into unlocks again.
So the Cozy Camper has been out for 10 days now, about enough time for people to have an idea of its usefulness. Crutch for new snipers? Boon for experienced ones?
So the Cozy Camper has been out for 10 days now, about enough time for people to have an idea of its usefulness. Crutch for new snipers? Boon for experienced ones?
Wait till they fix it
So the Cozy Camper has been out for 10 days now, about enough time for people to have an idea of its usefulness. Crutch for new snipers? Boon for experienced ones?
I quite like it. I'm usually terrible at Sniping, but the steady aim really helps, and there's few things more satisfying than scoring a quickscope, especially if it's on a Scout.
I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet. On the surface it's meh but it's almost a hard-counter to flares, assuming a decent amount of health (and head-finding ability). Really I don't think it can match up to the power of the SMG and Jarate, but it's smart enough to warrant playtime.
I spent some time playing Sniper on trade servers full of people just shooting each other. I never actually used the Camper, but saw other snipers using it. Hard to tell if they were just really bad or not, because even at my lack of skill and both sides being shot by heavies and such, I was still getting dominations and the like.
Okay so this morning i decided to go back to soldier and try all my soldier weapons, one by one. Now brace yourself for : [release]Soldier weapons through the eyes of someone who rarely plays soldier! Okay, so I'll start with the launchers. * Black box was first up as I had it equipped by default. The added survivability is a nice touch, which can really save your ass on many occasions, but too many times you'll find yourself plugged to a medic, making the bonus useless. Of course you can still waste this additionnal health on rocket jumping, but you never know when you're gonna need that rocket you just fired under your feet, and finding yourself against a few opponents mid-air with only two rockets left is a bad situation to put yourself in. * Next up was the liberty launcher. Now what this launcher accomplish is not only look neat, but it also gave me an incentive to not shoot feet. With this launcher equipped, the delay between the click and the explosion is greatly reduced and you can start getting a little accurate. I won't use it, though, because that fourth rocket is often needed. * Then we have the cowmangler 5K, now this one I'll acknowledge I have mixed feelings about it. The explosions for it are unimpressive at best and the reload speed is a serious handicap. I'm quite fond of the fifth rocket, though. The charged shot, not so much, because it's really damn obvious and it really seems slow to me. It does help as your only defense against sentries, I'll give you that. * Finally I went back to the vanilla rocket launcher, and it was a blast. You've got the best of both worlds : four flippin' rockets, random crits, a viable reload speed and the power to wipe buildings. While it does lack a bit of punch when trying to hit distant targets, the rocket jump allows you to get all up in their faces and screw them up real good. If I had to keep one launcher, it would be this one. * I have not touched the direct hit today. From what I remember it has a sick learning curve and I'm not sure if I want to play it again. Essentially I tend to see it as a liberty launcher with a full clip, but I might be wrong.[/release]
A good direct hit soldier is pretty much unstoppable, but I guess that could also be said about most classes and their weapons.
Tell you what, Soldier would be the best class to randomly select from all his available weapons and play a round or two. I've never liked the three-shot rocket launchers, you lose rocket-jumping power and any lengthy battle power in exchange for spits of health and slightly more secure kills. CM5K is a lot of fun on aerial maps with the Gunboats, like hightower. the Original and RL are the best for general play, though. 400 damage against all sources. hard to argue with that.
I love the default/original and the CM5K. I mostly use the Cow Mangler on defense where I can spam a lot without having to worry. It's also great Buff Banner fuel with the charge shot (when used properly). I've pretty much mained the Original as of late, though. Can't beat stock.
If you're playing soldier and using anything but DH+Gunboats or Default, you're mukkin about.
If you're playing soldier and using anything but DH+Gunboats or Default, you're mukkin about.
Pretty much what I got from playing soldier, yes. A little bit of change doesn't hurt too much, but you'll find yourself lacking in everything a vanilla soldier would do just fine. Most melees are viable, too.
My new favorite loadout has to be LnL+Splendid Screen+Skullcutter. I'm brushing up on my aim and the LnL is just so much fun to use, and the melee combo is just no joke. Nothing more satisfying than finding a group of unaware players and just turning them all in to greasy stains with this loadout. Meaning to try using the sticky jumper, too. Seems like it would work well with the Skullcutter to help counteract the slowness.

Don't forget to bring a grenade launcher, though, as minisentries will become the bane of you if you don't. (And whatever you do, DON'T Jumper + Caber. It's seriously useless and its only redeeming feature is that it's "trolly".) [editline]28th March 2012[/editline]
...DH+Gunboats...
the fuck u smokin boi
What's the best counter for flare gun whoring poof-and-sting Pyros beside rolling shotgun pyro?
What's the best counter for flare gun whoring poof-and-sting Pyros beside rolling shotgun pyro?
airblast airblast airblast
What's the best counter for flare gun whoring poof-and-sting Pyros beside rolling shotgun pyro?
Shotgun pyro, shotgun soldier, heavy, stickies, scout if you're confident enough in your aim. Basically you just want to try and out-damage them with hitscan or stickies and not give them anything to reflect.
What's the best counter for flare gun whoring poof-and-sting Pyros beside rolling shotgun pyro?
Being erratic in your movements and using heavy-hitting hitscan weapons.

[editline]28th March 2012[/editline] the fuck u smokin boi
But the jumper+ulapool fits with my idea of a paratrooper demo. And it helps with my hatred for snipers. You think you're so cool scoring headshots then taunting? You think you're actually pro and doing anything for your team? I jump in and specifically aim for them with my ulapool. I don't care if I have to take sentry damage on my way, it's totally worth it. Especially since I have a friend who plays nothing but snipers and always wears a purple anger. I want to try to use the eyelander with it but this is just too much fun.
How do I pull someone with the airblast? When I airblast someone, they are pushed away, and sometimes when pyros airblast me, I am pulled torwards them. How do?
