With my 95 hours of demo man, I've gotten used to being defeated by scouts. Even if you do DIRECTLY hit a scout, he loses 105 HP and isn't an instant kill (as I think it should be). I've gotten used to placing stickies about 10 seconds away from where the scout is, directly hit him with my pipe bomb, and then blowing it up when he unwillingly strafes into it.
Yeah. Honestly I find it better to use stickies against Scouts. Just avoid their shots and set up a sticky field, then try and pull them through it. Harass them with pipe bombs if you can. It doesn't always work, obviously, but you've got a better shot at getting them to stand on two than you do of hitting them with two pipe bombs. Spastic little bastards.
There's a reason that most demos use stickies as their primary: Pipes aren't reliable in a crunch, at least for me. Do any of you still have trouble aiming this thing? Besides point-blank kills, I have moderate trouble when it comes to mid-range fighting, and I am wondering if I'm alone. Some people say they're easier to aim because they move faster than rockets, but personally I have to treat each grenade like a huntsman arrow when trying to hit. Also, the off-to-the-right-of-the-crosshair aim of the nades bugs me too. In all of my 20 hours of demoman, the only thing I've learned really is not to hold M1 when being attacked. I've been screwed by scouts enough for doing that... Tips, or anything to note about this?
Only this morning I managed to get almost all my kills with pipes. The ones I didn't get with pipes were with the eylander and by using stickies how they should - ambush. Honestly if you can't aim them then you shouldn't bother with playing Demo, as pipes get so useful.
I'll always land the first pipe but never the second. The first can be as fancy as fuck but the second one ain't gonna happen. Also I can juggle the bots on walkway with pipes :)
I like playing Demo as vanilla as possible. Use the nadelauncher when im around areas with a high chance of running into enemies .. and have the stickielauncher out else to bombjump when i feel lit it in open areas
Practise on tr_walkway. It's how I learned to reflect grenades and actually hit people with them so it should work for you too.
Goddamn pipes, the reason I don't play demo is because they always roll back down the hill and kill me.
Aim infront of your target, or below depending on where the target, and for far targets aim high, above them, it would be best for you to start your own server, and practice with stand still bots, or on tr_walkway
I like to stickiejump, then spam pipes on the enemies heads. I do the same with soldier.
if you want to get good with pipes, use the targe. it forces you to not only get into shit, but also to use every pipe like it was your last to get the hell out. also its worth it to note that pipes dont have the damage falloff of most other weapons.
For the time during which I played a "Charin' 'Tard" Demoman, I actually got pretty used to using pipes, so much so that when I went back to stickies I was like "wtf do i do wit dis lol?". Some of my better pipe kills came from getting a direct hit with the first shot, missing the second so it flies over them, pulling out the Eyelander, charge them, they run backwards right into the pipe I missed with. :v:

And anyway, launching someone in the air with a pipe then planting a sticky under their feet is too awesome not to throw up.
I fucking love shooting pipes over a wall in a actual game, running around and catching, just in time, the pipe bomb coming down on a enemies head turning him into bloody meat chunks. Happened the other day on Freight, middle point was getting capped, shot over the wall right outside the garage, went through the opening and saw a demo jump in the air aim at me, and the pipe I shot earlier slammed into him killin him.
Predict Flick Win
There are a multitude of ways to effectively deploy grenades much of it being situational. You seem to be asking about a head to head encounter so that's how I'll craft my response. The key is to anticipate target's trajectory. One can even reduce target's routes or corral a target by well placed grenades narrowing the anticipatory window. Environment should also be taken into consideration.
Once you learn to compensate for the lob and the travel time, it's not that hard to hit scouts, even. They are also very useful against enemies around corners or over ledges.
Did anyone else immediately read this as aiming with piss.
I don't know, using the chargin' targe has made me rely on pipes more and has improved my aiming ability. Having only one range weapon forces you to get proficient with it if you want to live.
No one expressed their interest towards the practice server, but I would like to post it anyway: 208.100.17.253:27015
Did anyone else immediately read this as aiming with piss.
Same theory, different class.
also you can rely a lot more on splash with piss
I always am true to my bottle. Well, only when the enemy doesn't notice you.
Do as Robin Hood might have said: Don't hesitate, don't over-aim. It takes a split second to correctly judge a shot and hesitance can mean the difference in life and death. See the enemy, aim, immediately fire. Doesn't work? Do it again. Practice.
i love makin those really long pipe shots it makes me feel like i can predict the future
i love makin those really long pipe shots it makes me feel like i can predict the future
'tis why it is called prediction. It also sounds like a cheap board game back when I was a small kid.
To sum up everything : Long Range : spam Medium range : prediction Close range : flickshot
i jumped onto a random server today and tried leading while moving with the target, and it worked really well. I even got a double kill with a single pipe, which was fucking awesome, and im shit at demoman!
I don't use stickies at all.
I find aiming pipes rewarding and satisfying. Takes a bit to get used to but there isn't really any issue with them - once you get the feel for it you'll love it.
I'm getting better with pipes. I got 23:2 (kills:deaths) in score, this morning.
A big thing to remember with pipes is they can turn the area around you into a death trap for whoever is trying to attack you. Learn how to use them as an area-denial weapon. I don't just mean spamming them at a corner and hoping someone runs into them, learn how far down you have to aim to get it to bounce to medium and short distance. At what distance can you fire a grenade at a wall to land a grenade directly behind them so they get hit from a direct hit, and immediately in the back. And then demos have the annoying ability to hit targets without exposing themselves, use it.
