• High ping giving me an advantage?

My ping usually stays at 50-70 on my favorite servers. Sometimes, when my internet is unstable, it'll rise to 200+ on those servers.
honestly the admin isn't so stupid. sometimes i see people running around with about 300 ping, especially if they're scout they just jump-cut to different places... not enjoyable. i can't say if his desision is completely justified, but if you were jump-cutting like I see sometimes it's right to warn you about it. if i were you i'd try to keep my regular servers on my own continent.
can you tell me what do you mean by my wireless is screwed up?
Bad connection link, bad packet transfers, whatever. Anything that can go wrong with wireless.
You can't lower a game's ping directly, but check if your wireless is screwed up, if you're downloadíng/uploading anything or if somebody uses up all your bandwidth.
can you tell me what do you mean by my wireless is screwed up? EDIT:SOrry double post
i had a ping spike of about 4000 once. i was torrenting while playing :p
Lag comp can be abused
In TF2 the max Ping that you can see is 999 and i know that because when i get ddosed my ping goes to 999 for about 3 seconds untill it goes down, during that time i literally can't move
If you're being ddosed you're doing it wrong.
The lowest I have Is about 45-100 the highest is 250+:Dawkins102:. Some times 500+ if I have my Laptop, Pc, Wii, Xbox 360 on and connected
Under 10 ping after I got my internet upgraded and paying less for it Comcast, you're cool.
I live less than 150 feet away from the Comcast thingy, and I get 100 ping when connecting to servers in California. When I live in New Jersey.
My ping is 50-100 normally. :|
Seriously how the hell is it fun to comment on the highest ping you ever seen?
Lag compensation only really helps if you somehow see someone before they see you. Lag-compensation, if I'm not mistaken, basically just checks to see if YOU hit them or not on your end, which is how people can end up being sniped even though they ran back to spawn because according to that Sniper's client, you were just out in the open. BUT, let's say you have 150 ping while your opponent has 50, and you're in melee. Your opponent has 100ms lee-way to hit you before you can hit him. 100ms doesn't sound like a whole lot of time, but in many situations, 100ms is the difference between landing that crit-punch or being wrenched in the face. The main thing that would cause players with high ping to be at an advantage is when they're losing alot of packets, which causes them to "teleport" rather than just walk. When it comes to sniping, targeting such a player when they're a slower class (like Heavy or Soldier) won't be that different because the "jumps" are generally short. Compare that to a Scout where they go from their current location to 10 feet from that location in the blink of an eye, and you can see why noone likes laggy Scouts.
I usually get around 50 ping when connecting to servers around cali when I live in Virginia and +100 on European servers. All thanks to my ISP called cox.
