If you can't kill the Pyro when he's far away, you deserve getting killed.
Yeah but here's the thing, you don't always have a chance to kill them when they're far away because not all maps are wide open field like dustbowl and goldrush.
Pyro isn't overpowered, afterburn is.
Pyro is fun and easy. Puff with fire, then axe in 1 hit (2 for heavy) for kill. Or if they retreat, just shoot them with shotty. Plus the Axtinguisher is so fun to use.
Yes.

Obviously he'd have better chances than some other classes.
Soldier has a great advantage over pyro. I used to bitch about how soldiers are OP, until I realized it was because I was playing pyro.

W+M1 is so dumb! It's just a way to make an excuse about being killed by a pyro, you will die, and, W+M!!!! OMG W+M!
Replying to the title, yes they can! All it takes is a +10% running speed.
If you're playing as a soldier and you still let a pyro get close enough to you to kill you, I don't think it's the pyro that sucks...
Airblast. Master it and become a soldier's nightmare
And any person who has mastered a soldier knows the chemistry. I pretty much kill any pyro using airblast by using distance and my beautiful shotgun.
Quit whining and shoot them.
Any class is "overpowered" if you play them correctly.
If your demoman, theres no reason you can't kill a pyro if you see him first.
As someone else who plays the Soldier, Pyros seem pretty disadvantaged against him- unless they're ones who are actually good at using the airblast, but even then you can just switch to the shotgun and handle them that way. It can be pretty overwhelming when they get so close, but Pyros are SUPPOSED to excel at close range, because they're effectively worthless anywhere else.
lol, soldier is overpowered
I wouldn't say he's so much "overpowered" as he is well-rounded.
And that flamethrower is ridiculously overpowered.

flamethrower overpowered.
It's a flamethrower. It's shooting liquid fire at you in the form of burning napalm. You cannot put Napalm out easily. In fact, in real life, flamethrowers easily reach between 50 and 80 meters (165-270 feet) and the napalm will STICK to your ass. I am aware that TF2 is not real life, but instead of bitching about how the Pyro is overpowered because you don't know how to effectively counter the class, you could thank whatever god you worship that the Pyro in TF2 doesn't use a more realistic flamethrower. As for your question, no. Pyro's aren't, you're just not a very good player. Pyro's are EASILY dominated by Soldiers. The only time a Pyro should be able to kill you enough as a soldier for you to feel he's overpowered is if you're in close quarters maps (hallways, lots of turns, etc) or you just suck.
OP is shitting me
Could OP be any more late? Seriously though, get good or go pyro.
If anything, the Soldier is overpowered. I'm a career spy, but when my team needs it more, I'll go scout or soldier. I get more kills as a soldier than as a spy, but they're lower priority kills (i.e. scouts, careless heavies, wandering engineers). If I don't get 7 kills per life as a soldier, I'm doing something wrong. If I get 4 kills as a pyro, I'm lucky. (Just so you know, 3 backstabs is a normal life for me)

Pyro isn't overpowered. The OP is underpowered.
Pull out your shotgun and fire. They can't airblast bullets at you.
The only thing remotely overpowered IMO is the demo sticky gun. You shouldnt be able to detonate them so fast. I was playing Blu on Goldrush the other day and this Red Pyro kept coming from behind with his fucking AXE, I swear he killed me 10 times with that damn thing. It was really embarrassing, because I'm actually a pretty good player. He was top of the charts, I guess he just knew how to ambush.
(pyro is 3. fastest class btw)
Technically, you're right. However, you're also wrong in a sense. Pyros move at 100% speed. As do Spies, Engineers and Snipers. Pyros do not move faster than any classes other than Demo, Soldier or Heavy, it just seems that way sometimes. The difference between the Pyro and the other 3 is that you're probably not going to see a Sniper, Engineer or Spy charging dead at you - or worse for you, strafe charging - in the middle of a fight. Pyros are primarily offensive classes, which is why they're good at killing other classes in a straight fight in their element. If you take them out of their element, - that is, keep them at a range at about the 2fort bases from each other - you can easily kill them. Airblast takes 25 of 200 ammo from the flamethrower, meaning they can airblast 8 times. That's 2 whole clips of rockets. How many extra do you have? Or better yet, save your rockets and use the shotgun like so many other people have mentioned. I use the regular flamethrower, and the shotgun is the primary reason I die against soldiers. Yes, they have the flare gun. However, the flares are so easy to dodge at decent ranges that, unless you're completely unaware of the Pyro, or don't have the speed(scoped Sniper/spinning Heavy) or area to dodge in, it's practically embarrassing to actually get hit by one of those things.
I hate how all the characters in TF2 are laced in gasoline and start on fire if there is even a hint of a fire by them. In my opinion they should change how quickly you are set on fire from a Pyro. You should still take the same amount of damage you take now but have it so you have to take a certain amount of damage before you catch on fire.
Airblast. Master it and become a soldier's nightmare
Shoot at floor. Airblast is useless.

The Pyro's flamethrower is bullshit. I'm tired of backpedaling away from a pyro, just out of his range, and then somehow spontaneously combusting. On that note, the Sniper's kukiri, Engineer's wrench, and Medic's saws are just as ridiculous. Valve should really work on the hitboxes before they work on nerfing anybody.
Scouts are real pains against pyros sice they out dps them since most use F.A.N i just get two shotted when ever the scout can aim.
Shoot at floor. Airblast is useless.
You'd be surprised how many soldiers don't. Plus flaregun can usually be a good counter for the shotgun when used correctly (with the minicrits) But as I have said, A small speed nerf should even out the pyro well by making him rely on ambush tactics which valve intended him to do.
Jesus christ I think the Steam forums are leaking
