How to NOT be a W+M1 Pyro and still kick ass! (Maybe even more!)

The thing is, once you get good with the flaregun you can still use it against pyros. Hit them once or twice with it, then just run backwards with the flamethrower. Alternatively if you hit them twice smack them in the face with the axe.
Top Tip
If you are alone with a soldier and he hasn't seen you move pretend you are AFK, if he's stupid he'll just try and get a couple of long range shots with his rocket launcher, at the last second deflect the rockets as he thinks he has just got an easy AFK kill.
I love doing that.
My advice for Pyro vs Pyro...
If you meet him close up, it's going to be random as hell who wins.
HOWEVER, if you meet him at distance, shoot him a few times with your shotgun, most pyros are too dumb to whip out their secondary, then run close to him before he realize that w+m1 is useless, he will have lost a big portion of health, but he will still most of the time assume he got the upper hand on yor for some reason and use his flamethrower.
Now considering his health, he might get some damage on you, but most of the time he'll die quickly.

My general advice for most other classes, not sniper, and spy...
When they're attacking you at medium range, fake a retreat.
Run back to your base, hide behind a corner.
Often the enemy will think you're running back because you're at low health, and an easy kill.
Just wait, and when they come running past you...
????
PROFIT.
Bonus points if you yell for medic while running back.

There's not much you can do about Sniper's aside from trying to avoid them and if you can, get up close to them. You can also distract them a bit with your shotgun and flaregun, but in the end that's rarely going to be enough to take him down unless he already has lost enough health.
Never face a Heavy head on.
Never think that you can run up to him before he can wind up and boolit you down.
You can't.
Take him by surprise, never head on.
Okay I went online and followed it I was bottom of my team even though as pyro I am normally top ... gee thanks for the tips they didn't work.
We've been through this numerous times. Fucking M1.
These actually helped me get off on the right foot. They're not perfect, but I adapted them to my needs and I was at the top of my team. You don't have to follow them perfectly, you know.
If someone's in range of my flamethrower I'm sure as hell going to chase them.
AIRBLAST
If someone actvates uber to kill your friends sentry, keep airblasting them away, it works, and when those pesky scouts are coming for the intel that has already been dropped and has a timer, air blast them away again and again. If someone has your intel, light them then keep blasting them into a corner until they die try to give them as little distance towards there base as possible. It works. If your teamates are on fire, air blast them. If your about to lose a pyro to pyro fight, airblast him away and run. I don't use the backburner I prefer the old one. I love the airblast.
dont tell people how to play the game please we paid our 20 bucks for it we do what we want
He's not telling you/making you, he's suggesting it to you.
how could you not use w+m1 and play any class? are you just going to strafe the whole time?
dont tell people how to play the game please we paid our 20 bucks for it we do what we want
fight da powah.
yeah, that's it. If you follow this you'll be pretty fucking good.
Wrong
W+M1 Pyro, while generally frowned upon as "noobish" or "overpowered," can actually do more damage that way than most other tactics. If you don't mind the dent to your reputation, just whip out your flamethrower and charge. But I did find these tips to be quite handy. Oh yeah, you forgot to say anything about Scouts.
Keep in mind that, if they have the Fag-a-Nature, they can two-shot kill you. Best bet is to let them stay at medium range. If you have the flare gun, hit them with it and try to intercept them either before or after they have gotten more health. If you have the shotgun, just blast away and pray he doesn't get too close.
M1 + W -> Group = Like ants lit ablaze, and watch as they scatter like itty bitty fireballs.
How to NOT be a W+M1 Pyro and still kick ass! (Maybe even more!)
This is my tutorial on how to become an awesome Pyro that:
-Your team will love.
-Enemy team will hate.
-NOT W+M1!
General Loadout
In my opinion, this is the layout you should use for ALL circumstances. This guide is based on this layout.
-Flamethrower (Because)
-Shotgun (Flaregun is weak, and without Shotty you have no USEFUL direct attack method. Plus Shotty is good for all ranges.)
-Axtinguisher (You own the shit out of people and it's fucking humiliating for the person you axtinguish.)
Ranges
~When in an open area, have your Shotty as your default weapon.
~When in a closed in area, have your Flamer as your default weapon.
Shoot people at mid-long ranges, and if they get close, change to Flamethrower. Once you have flamed them don't keep doing so. If they retreat, refer to (A). If they stay up close with you refer to (B).
(A)
When an enemy retreats after you have flamed them, shoot them with your fucking Shotgun. The combined damage of the afterburn and the shotgun shells will rip them to pieces.
(B)
When an enemy stays up close after you have flamed them, switch to the Axtinguisher and start swinging. A crit Axtinguisher will most likely kill any class in one hit, except for Heavy which takes two.
Class-Specific Tactics
Pyro
This is why you have the Shotgun. Your Flamethrower is 100% useless against Pyros. If you choose to Flamethrower duel, it'll just be whoever has higher health. Stay a little far from the Pyro, but close enough to make sure all Shotgun shells hit him. You rip him apart in 2-4 shots depending on the circumstances.
Heavy
Heavies can't run away from you. Puff them with one flame then swing at them twice. Bam, they're dead. If the Heavy already has thier Minigun revving, then just circle-strafe them with the Flamer and hope for the best.
Soldiers
You can take two routes depending on your range. If the Soldier is up close, switch to Shotty and try to kill him. If he's far away just piss him off by reflecting his rockets.
Snipers
Close range: Do whatever the fuck you want with them, they're hopeless. Mid-long range: Strafe side to side while shooting them with the shotgun, occasionally ducking and jumping.
Medics
If they shoot at you with a Blutsauger, do your best to strafe them. Remember to either shoot or axe them depenging on range.
Demoman
He'll most likely try to shoot grenades at you until he runs out. Just reflect all his grenades. When he changes to the Sticky Launcher, get back and shoot at him.
Spies
See Sniper section.
Engineer
With Sentry: If it's around the corner, then hug the wall and get in the Sentry's blind spot and just flame the fuck out of it. It WILL die unless it has constant healing. Then just do whatever with the Engi. Without Sentry: Again, do whatever. Laugh while they try to kill you.
Tips
~Airblast puts out fires, USE IT.
~Use taunt to look around corners if you think there might be danger.
~If a Sniper can't see you and you're behind him, look around really quick and Hadouken him.
Yeah, that's it. If you follow this you'll be pretty fucking good.
You really can't laugh at an engineer. They are far from helpless even without the sentry.
Did someone just diss the flare gun?
I rack up more kills with the flare gun than I ever will with the shotgun.
Why the fuck would you ever want the Axtinguisher without the Flaregun? That's just fucking stupid.
You might as well just fucking w+m1 if you're planning to set them ablaze with the flamethrower and hit them with your axtinguisher.
Engineers are fully capable of fighting you off without a sentry- their wrench is something you should fear; they also have a shotgun that's just as powerful as yours.
Heavy
He will fucking kill you in a second if you go close range. Also 90% of the time he has a medic with him.
Soldiers
Take out shotty when he has a rocket launcher? No contest.
Snipers
Huntsman is HIGHLY lethal from any range. If you expect afterburn to kill him, jaaaaaaaaaarate.
Medics
Axe a medic? you'll do HALF damage and get your dick handed to you by his ubersaw.
Demoman
2 grenades to the face will kill you AND dont expect to relfect every single grenade. You can only reflect 8 times (when full). Use flaregun at mid range dumbfuck.
Spies
Dead Ringer. Ambassador.
tl;dr, you are the worst pyro in tf2.
Spies don't stand a chance versus the pyro with the Dead Ringer. Don't get me wrong, Spies can kill pyros and all, but the Dead Ringer is absolutely useless and more with the flametrower.
W+M1 is old shit, A+M1 is the new shit.
I found the flaregun to be useful.
Hunting down fleeing enemies on fire with mini-crit shots is truly rewarding. :v:
Flaregun is the awesome-sauce.
I hate Flaregun.
Shotgun is superior.
With regards to shotgun vs. flaregun, I think it's just a matter of personal preference. My aim is awful, so I tend to go for the shotgun. However, there's always one or two pyros who insist on standing on the battlements shooting flares. If you want to snipe, be a sniper.
Learn to use the flaregun, once you're good with it, it's invaluable. The shotgun, once you're good with the flaregun, is basically just for other pyros.
This, the flaregun is extremely useful. And as you said, it's even invaluable when you're good with it. I'm pretty good with it, and most my kills is with the flaregun nowdays.
I'm more of a Shotgun Pyro, because I find myself up against way too many Pyros anymore. The only reason I stick with the Shotgun is so that I can be more effective against other Pyros.
flaregun>shotgun
See, the thing about the flaregun, is that once you become proficient in its use, it becomes second nature to whip it out and start peppering your target. I've used it so much, and it's a lifesaver. I get more kills with the flaregun than the flamethrower.
You're sitting there, pushing the PR cart, and spot a Scout running up on your right flank, and boom, you set him alight and airblast him out of the way.
You're sitting there, gaurding a cap point, when suddenly, a Soldier surprises you're team and starts letting loose with a barrel of rockets. You take out your trusty Flaregun, shoot, and boom, the Soldier catches fire. You airblast any remaining rockets and get a reflect kill.
You're sitting there, in the corridors of 2Fort, waiting for an unlucky enemy to waltz your way. Out of nowhere, a drunk Demoman bursts into the room, and luckily, is more surprised than you are. Since you already have your Flamer out, you dose him with fire, airblast him and his grenades away, and-BOOM-make him drop in agony from a well placed flare.
You're going around for a daily Spycheck, when something appears out of the corner of your eyeballs. It's an enemy Spy, and he's got that look in his pixelated, low poly face, that he wants to start some trouble. You hide behind a wall, and as you load a flare into your flaregun, you pull the trigger. KABLOOIE!! He bursts into fire, cloaking and running around looking for some health. He spots a pack, but before he can reach it, you reload, and take another shot right at his balaclava. Down he goes.
(Mind you, all these stories are personal experiences from me, except with a heck of a lot of extra drama added.)
why are we blind from the evil of w+m2. Oh right because of the ammo thing
Have an artistic.
Took a bit of work to make those seem much more interesting than they actually were.
Like the Spy one. It really just went like:
I was sitting with my fingers up my ass in Pipeline when I see a Spy uncloak. I shoot him with some flares and he dies.
