Major Update Speculation Thread V3: Tonight's the Night, forever and always

Diary + 11 keys = open diary
Upon equipping it on Pyro, it recites a random passage from the diary in a slightly muffled voice every time you spawn. Once you've heard all of it and pieced it together, you can conclude that the Pyro is actually a barn door.

Wild bit of additional speculations, but what if that one rare looking crate thats been sitting in the game files for so long finally comes into play? I'm referring to that golden looking one that was added some time ago but never was never into use.
Seems like something so ornate may eventually come into play with such a big update on the way.

Can you post a picture of the crate?
I've gone with this theory so far, relating to Meet the Pyro, the pyro is in some barn town place. where robots attack after the engineer built the pyro (meaning its a robot) the engineer tries to recreate all the classes since the pyro protects his buildings. he fails the robots go rogue attack the town / barn / farm place the pyro tries to kill the robots, ends up burning the town place, leaving a part from the robots, a goldfish (from a farm thing? havent gotten this one yet), cheese wheel (it is a farm place thing), barn plank from one of the buildings, and lint from the engineers pocket. the other REAL classes try to figure out who the pyro is, he doesn't want them to know so he burns the diary. OR the diary is the engineers notes how to defeat the robots.
though i might be wrong, if someone can 1 up me go ahead ;)
Originally posted it on the update page, but I thought it might fit here too :v:
Maybe the mysterious items will just be crafting material?
Combine 2-3 of them to make a scrap metal.
With a mundane item like this being very common and also craftable, getting new crafting material would be a lot easier than it is now. This done without any effect to the drop rate of items such as cosmetics and weapons. It could be Valve's way of bringing the prices down on the majority of the items in the player based economy, as crafted hats will be far more common and new users will have an easier time crafting specific weapons or hats.
So that's my idea, maybe the useless items will end up being craftable and therefor purposely causing major inflation in the market. With Valve enjoying these type of experiments and having recently hired someone as a consultant to the TF2 economy, I think it's a possibility.
Pyro cowboy update confirmed.

It makes sense, but why would they use things like cheese and fish for random crafting materials?
The banana peel makes sense, since its a common representation for "junk" or "garbage."

Maybe the random classification as "Mysterious" is a comically bad explanation to justify it?

Thanks. I wonder how I missed that.
Cheese, banana, fish (ingredience) + plank (firewood) + lint (fire starter) =
Variation on Sole with Bananas
Why use fire?
Because the capacitor in the oven was damaged.
It all makes sense.

Probably unrelated, but they look awfully similiar.

And the Diary was burnt from the fire from the oven.

The Diary is actually full of recipes.
And which character is known for being cook as a hobby?

Oh yeah

Is it me or aren't any of those odd items dropping for F2P players? Can anyone confirm?
Is it me or aren't any of those odd items dropping for F2P players? Can anyone confirm?

Since I haven't seen this posted anywhere in this thread...
It appears that these items are only dropping for premium users. Good? Bad? Your call. (Mine's apathetic).

Is it me or aren't any of those odd items dropping for F2P players? Can anyone confirm?
I can confirm that F2Ps do not get these drops.
I idled 4 accounts last night.
1 premium: http://tf2b.com/tf2/armisael_12
and 3 F2Ps:
http://tf2b.com/tf2/arm8
http://tf2b.com/tf2/armisael_10
http://tf2b.com/tf2/armisael_11
I got a bunch of them on the paid account, and none on any of the three F2P accounts.
Welp, 4 hours of idling and no drops :C
Welp, 4 hours of idling and no drops :C
You probably reached the weekly cap.
I read all about the new funky items in this thread before I started up TF2. It turns out, I had a new item!
It turns out, it was the Huntsman :suicide:
I went for no internet for a day and cheese is added to the game? Damn
the new items add some efects on normal weapons?
the new items add some efects on normal weapons?
Nope
As of now they are useless
Welp, 4 hours of idling and no drops :C
Add me! i got 2 banana peel somehow.you can have one.
Is it me or is the Cheesewheel the most rare out of all the normally dropped items?
Maybe I should hang onto mine
Is it me or is the Cheesewheel the most rare out of all the normally dropped items?
stats.tf has seen (at time of posting):
1583 lint
1123 goldfish
884 bananas
512 planks
143 cheesewheels
7 capacitors
2 diaries
This site gets its information from people using the backpack viewer, so it isn't perfect, but this is probably a representative sample (with the exception of the capacitors and the diaries; I expect those to be overrepresented since people actively seek those backpacks out).
I think I've figured out the order of rarity of the items.
Lint - Banana Peel - Goldfish - Barn Door Plank - Cheese Wheel - Damaged Capacitor - Secret Diary.
(Common - Rare)
