What if the economist guy suggested to the TF2 team, "Why don't you give them common, useless garbage and see what happens?" The "mysterious" part sounds sarcastic, almost mockingly.
i think some kind of mechanic to "unlock" the update wherein the community needs to feed these items in a certain order to some kind of machine in order to release each part of the update would be neat. see people harvesting lint + bananas for day one
I think I've figured out the order of rarity of the items. Lint - Banana Peel - Goldfish - Barn Door Plank - Cheese Wheel - Damaged Capacitor - Secret Diary. (Common - Rare)
I've gotten about 4 times more fish than lint and peels.
What if the economist guy suggested to the TF2 team, "Why don't you give them common, useless garbage and see what happens?" 2 diaries!? Hurrgrhrgrh. Whut. You telling me, there's a 1/100 chance of finding an unusual, and (apparently) a 1/2172 chance of a diary!? Hurrgrhrgh.
I've gotten about 4 times more fish than lint and peels.
the more common ones might be harder to pin-point, as for me I've gotten around 15 lint, 7-9 peels, 6-7 fish, 2 planks, and none of the others. so in that case the fish and peel might be switched.
im not being entirely serious here it's a stretch of a speculation, but i find it odd that all these new items have crafting properties and valve has been talking non-stop about executing an event where players can craft the destroyed wrenchs
you know, looking at your name, I can't help but remember the tizzy everybody was in over Hunter Killer's robot heads back in V2 I still have that pic I made in Paint I think it still counts for right now
Valve isn't stupid. They would know not to do something like that because there would be tremendous repercussions.
Why not? I'm sure it's very interesting from an analyst's standpoint, at any rate. Right now these are completely useless items, but only a handful of people realize that. How fast that information spreads and how that affects what these things are traded for is probably useful information to have. Market experiments like that aren't horribly uncommon, and TF2's been the equivalent of a testing ground for quite a while now. Also it's really funny.
Valve isn't stupid. They would know not to do something like that because there would be tremendous repercussions.
Just like they knew there'd be a shitfest with the golden wrenches And they went ahead with that
Why am I imagining Gabe high fiving Robin while saying "Best prank ever, bro!"?
I don't know which version you guys are familiar with, but a while ago I saw that the list of Telltale references to this patch was updated. Now each item had a description that proves a connection to a Telltale game even further. I want to believe this last patch is Meet the Pyro related but if it's just some kind of silly promotion, then shits will be stormed. Reminds me of the Grocket all over again.
Can you link to that or explain yourself COSTA?

On a side note, I still see people trying to buy Capacitors and Diaries for a lint or a scrap. Drives me into extreme fits of anger witnessing how slow information spreads through the more ignorant part of the community.
Why am I imagining Gabe high fiving Robin while saying "Best prank ever, bro!"?
I dunno man, that's a real bad idea.
Just like they knew there'd be a shitfest with the golden wrenches And they went ahead with that
Well, they hopefully learned from that...
Well... well dicks. Cheesewheels are pretty fucking rare.
Why am I imagining Gabe high fiving Robin while saying "Best prank ever, bro!"?
"It's still April 1st, right? Valve brand watch can be a bit slow sometimes" Would explain why we went half a year without anything.
Can you link to that or explain yourself COSTA?
I think this is the last version: http://pastebin.com/VXFSfwWT AFAIK there was only a very early version of this one posted in this thread, where some points weren't explained. At least the diary one wasn't explained. I would love to get some pictures though. I don't want to believe in any of these. I have to say, that diary looks a lot like something the Pyro would have (the burnt corner, the flame-shaped flowers...)
golden axe for pyro
I thought you were making an Animal Crossing reference.
I'm not the one to speculate much, but could this have anything to do with that map Valve tested sometime ago? koth_soho I think...
aw
I'm thinking at least the diary is for MtP, it's burnt.
If the diary is for MtP, all the other items have to be related. I don't think Valve would make promos non-genuine with extremely high drop rates (except Diary and Capacitor) and make the patch that added them undocumented. Plus, where is the game? These items aren't promos, guys.
If you use a Mann Co Diary Key on the Diary on a Full Moon, you obtain access to a password and an IP address that lets you play in koth_soho. You can craft a Mann Co Diary Key with a Mann Co Supply Crate Key, a cheese wheel, a conductor, a banana peel, a goldfish and a plank, or buy one at the Dota 2 Store for 5$. There's no use for the lint yet, but if you craft 2 together, there's a 0.01% chance of getting a Lint Wrench. Edit: Believe me my uncle works for Nintendo
I think it's safe to say the Diary is the Pyro's, and it may just explain the Pyro's past and identity. The description of the diary says, "We respect the privacy of our characters."
What if the economist guy suggested to the TF2 team, "Why don't you give them common, useless garbage and see what happens?" The "mysterious" part sounds sarcastic, almost mockingly.
What. Guys, experiments or not, Valve is a game company. As in, they sell video games for profit. Analyst or not, why on earth would this serve no other purpose other than "let's see what happens"? There has to be some gameplay impact here, even if the items themselves do absolutely nothing. There was a game reason for adding them, even if it were just for breeding hype (which i doubt, otherwise they'd likely be craftable into scrap somehow). Valve is not someone's older brother, they don't actually "troll". This is because they are a game company that sells video games for profit. If they ever do experiments, it's for the purpose of developing and selling video games. Can we please acknowledge this. Half-Life 3 wasn't an epic fail bacon prank, it's a game that's been delayed for a game reason, not because the CEO founded a multi-billion dollar company for a laugh or two. I feel like this notion is actually taken seriously sometimes.
What time does the drop cap reset tonight?
So high chance of this all being Potato-like ARG for a new set of games this year? Still, there could be like. Multiple crossovers everywhere, we already got the portal/l4d stuff in tf2 atm, so Summer Sale 2012 = uh... inter-game crossovermas?
What time does the drop cap reset tonight?
I think it's around 5:20pm to 6:00pm.
