What. Guys, experiments or not, Valve is a game company. As in, they sell video games for profit. Analyst or not, why on earth would this serve no other purpose other than "let's see what happens"? There has to be some gameplay impact here, even if the items themselves do absolutely nothing. There was a game reason for adding them, even if it were just for breeding hype (which i doubt, otherwise they'd likely be craftable into scrap somehow). Valve is not someone's older brother, they don't actually "troll". This is because they are a game company that sells video games for profit. If they ever do experiments, it's for the purpose of developing and selling video games. Can we please acknowledge this. Half-Life 3 wasn't an epic fail bacon prank, it's a game that's been delayed for a game reason, not because the CEO founded a multi-billion dollar company for a laugh or two. I feel like this notion is actually taken seriously sometimes.
because they're valve, they do this shit
Okay, so I think tonight something will happen that will not involve a client update. Any chances I'm right?
So has anyone tried crafting them in every possible combination yet? Or has that been proven not to work?
I think this is the last version: http://pastebin.com/VXFSfwWT AFAIK there was only a very early version of this one posted in this thread, where some points weren't explained. At least the diary one wasn't explained. I would love to get some pictures though. I don't want to believe in any of these. I have to say, that diary looks a lot like something the Pyro would have (the burnt corner, the flame-shaped flowers...)
Combined with how the descriptions are written ("Unlike other games we could mention", "the mystery train" with the capacitor refers to Back To The Future 3), I fear it's gonna be a crossover Telltale promotion and not MtP.

With the item system, economy, Mann Co. store, and more, we've been not only their customers, but their guinea pigs as well for years now. This is nothing new.
So has anyone tried crafting them in every possible combination yet? Or has that been proven not to work?
a crafting recipe wasn't added/doesn't exist iirc
So has anyone tried crafting them in every possible combination yet? Or has that been proven not to work?
There is no crafting recipe. I'm starting to think we need to make a thread titled "THERE IS NO CRAFTING RECIPE FOR THE MYSTERY ITEMS" just to get people to stop asking.
They've publicly admitted before that TF2 is their testing ground for new ideas. This is nothing new.
That's what I mean by experiments. It's all for the pursuit of game developing. Some stuff may work, some won't. But they aren't just playing around with shit for no reason. If they're screwing with the economy, it's so they can utilize the results. If you can think of a way this experiment would help the game or provide useful results, then there you go, maybe you're onto something. But it's not out of a desire to snigger at players, we can probably agree on this. I admit, I feel frustrated sometimes by this kind of thing. A big part of the fanbase tends to base speculation off of a fantasy version of Valve, rather than common sense. I dunno, I get a good amount of them are probably teenagers, but if you're old enough to be able post in a forum, you probably understand the whole buying/selling system society's got. in other news, I keep abusing the edit button because i keep forgetting the most basic, simple rule imaginable

Welp, page king, therefore I'll repost this
There's a new updated version of the theory that these new items have something to do with a Telltale game. http://pastebin.com/VXFSfwWT

Why TrueBlue thinks the new TF2 items are related to TellTale's games: POCKET LINT: Puzzle Agent has a "Bureau of Naval Lint" in the White House. The connection is backed up by the TF2 item's description - "Is it fabric lint? Navel lint you're keeping in your pocket so you don't lose it? Naval lint brushed from the hull of a battleship?" CHEESE WHEEL: You shoot one during a Sam & Max Season 2 driving challenge. This is backed up by the TF2 item's description - "This cheese doesn't seem so mysterious until you realize it's full of bullet holes. Somebody got to this cheese before it could talk." BARN DOOR PLANK: The Walking Dead is notorious for what goes on in its Barn scenes. GOLDFISH: Almost definitely Mr. Spatula (from Sam & Max). SECRET DIARY: Belongs to the Voodoo Lady from Tales Of Monkey Island; it appears in Episode 4. DAMAGED CAPACITOR: Is it a 'flux' capacitor? Will we need to get Back to the Future at some point? BANANA PEEL: Fished out of a garbage can in first episode of Sam & Max Season 3, as part of the "future sight" puzzle mechanic.
Rate me boxes
Combined with how the descriptions are written ("Unlike other games we could mention", "the mystery train" with the capacitor refers to Back To The Future 3), I fear it's gonna be a crossover Telltale promotion and not MtP.
Why are the items undocumented in the patch? Why are the items not genuine? Why are the items dropping so frequently? Why are the items tradeable? Where is the game? Why is everyone denying that this could be the start of the big update? How I feel right now:
I hit the cap and ended up with, one Banana, five Barn Door Planks, six Gold Fish, and six Lint. All on my only one account.
Maybe it'll be like the Ahn'Qiraj War Effort in WoW. We need to gather tens of thousands of banana peels and pocket lints and whichever clan does it first receives the ultimate hat; Legendary Bunch Of Junk.
Speaking of failed experiments earlier, has anyone ever given a single thought or mention to those dueling/gifting/map hats? We'd been looking at that blog picture for ages, yet the fact that they existed completely slipped my mind until now. I wonder if they'll give that system another shot in the next update.
Why is everyone denying that this could be the start of the big update?
Because speculation We're just analysing the facts & People aren't denying nor the opposite, pretty sure noone has any idea of what is going on. Only Pyro knows
Okay, so I think tonight something will happen that will not involve a client update. Any chances I'm right?
No. It is merely day 2 today, now they'll add rubber bands, shreds of clothing, dead raccoons, maple leaves, burnt LEDs, and air fresheners to the drop system tonight.
Hey, I have a question that is totally unrelated to anything happening. ned, maybe you can help me on this one. I'd like to know how promotionnal items are generated. When I purchase a game that has promos, and then play TF2, they drop, like, one hour after I started playing, moreso. Usually, it'll be [promo item], level 1. So I was wondering. Promotionnal items seems to be generated in game, and not right after the purchase. What happens when I pre-purchase a game with promos and never launch TF2 until the promos are craftable, and more importantly, start dropping with a random level? Will my promotionnal items have a random level too?
Hey did any of you guys try to craft all the items together :quagmire:
Hey did any of you guys try to craft all the items together :quagmire:

ATTENTION there are no crafting recipes in the schema. Crafting them will not do anything

blank
Yeah okay but did you try crafting the items together :quagmire:
my god i have so much pocket lint so much sneezing ;~;
Hey did any of you guys try to craft all the items together :quagmire:
Even if we were able to, that would mean getting all of the items That implies either being ultra-mega-super-rich, or killing the faggots selling the Diary for 2 buds
No. It is merely day 2 today, now they'll add rubber bands, shreds of clothing, dead raccoons, maple leaves, burnt LEDs, and air fresheners to the drop system tonight.
Canada update confirmed
if anyone wants some pocket lint and a banana peel, let me know my nose is all stuffy now :c
if anyone wants some pocket lint and a banana peel, let me know my nose is all stuffy now :c
I require these things.
if anyone wants some pocket lint and a banana peel, let me know my nose is all stuffy now :c
I'll take them off your pockets, good sir.
ok. 2 buDS!!!! i'm kidding, toss me an invite at lilrobot.
Invite sent.
It is merely day 2 today, now they'll add rubber bands, shreds of clothing, dead raccoons, maple leaves, burnt LEDs, and air fresheners to the drop system tonight.
I actually kinda hope they continue to inundate us with "junk." I think that'd be great. The fact that they didn't make a big deal out of yesterday's additions kinda makes me think more is on the way.
I dunno, I get a good amount of them are probably teenagers, but if you're old enough to be able post in a forum, you probably understand the whole buying/selling system society's got.
You don't even know the fucking half of it; I'm pretty sure half the Outpost mods are underage kids (I'm not saying that insultingly, I mean literally).
