Multi-day updates usually start early in the week; giving the community time to hype itself as content is revealed for the patch to go live late in the week.
It's standard formula, we just haven't seen many multi-day updates since Mann-Conomy.
Server is protected with a password. I doubt he joined.
I once got into a passworded server by typing random words. The chaps in the server went apeshit and banned me before I could even join.
[sp]The password was vidya[/sp]
Aw shucks...
I'm still waiting for community maps; nothing since Gullywash...
It's not like it matters.
All the servers will still be running 24/7 2fort, dustbowl, badwater and goldrush anyway.
I doubt most people will even know there's a new map.

The last major update, Australian Christmas 2011, was a multi-day update

2 days wasnt much and i was a bit disapointed to see that , i was expecting something bigger

I said "many", not "any"
Since Mann-Conomy, we've had 2 multi-day updates: Uber Update and Australian Christmas 2011.
Prior to Mann-Conomy, there were 5 multi-day updates: Scout Update, Sniper vs. Spy, Classless, WAR!, and Engineer.
Everything else has been single-day. Xmas 2011 wasn't even very long -- 2 days.

allows you to play your Steam games on your TV, with controller support and a larger GUI

Reminds me of when that Zelda game had a game-breaker like 3/4 of the way through the game and the best Nintendo could do have you mail off your Wii and your Zelda disc and hope that they would fix it.
A Mario Kart 7 patch actually came out last month, but even so it's kind of half-ass. It only applies to online multiplayer, and it didn't really do anything except fix a half dozen shortcuts.

But man, it's Nintendo
doing updates
It's the first step to coming on Steam
Wasn't Valve supposed to show their 10' ui for Steam today?

I believe Nintendo's philosophy is to sell you the complete game, none of that DLC or even worse, DLC on disc crap which explains lack of updates.

Does anyone have any information on the workings of Big Picture Mode? e.g. Will you need to hook-up your computer to your tv? Will you need to purchase any extra equipment?

I assume you just hook it up as you would hooking any computer to a TV.
Valve won't care how you get your computer screen on your TV, they'll just provide the GUI and controller support.
