When stats.tf lists an item as "gifted", does that simply mean traded or literally gifted with giftwrap? A few of the new items have landed on F2P accounts with "gifted" origins.

I have tracked a 4th diary, whether the 5th just disappeared or this is the 4th is still unknown.

Gifted is only obtainable from Secret Saxtons. Gift Wrapped items keep whatever origin the item that was gift wrapped had.

Is the drop rate for these Secret Diaries lower even than the Holiday Headcase was (given what we know about how many have been found over this 24 hour period)? The Golden Wrenches were all timed drops, too. I wonder if it's entirely random or whether there's something else to it.

Considering the absurd rarity of the diaries and capacitor, I am beginning to think that these crafting ingredients will not be necessary ingredients to craft the new weapons. That said, I'm left baffled as to what they would be used for if not that.

You probably craft these items with the MvM items to make hats. I'm wondering if these items will drop forever, maybe at tool rate after the update. Especially if they have an actual use as a crafting ingredient for hats.
