im expecting something next week
To be honest I'd be COMPLETELY fine if they got a few people into the TF team and release a WHOLE cleanup update. Fixes bugs, fixes unbalanced weapons, fixes whatever's broken, upgrades engine, etc.
This is something I've wanted for a long time. Shouldn't be that difficult to get the people for it either, there's plenty of community members who are willing to do that I bet.
Here are some fun facts I think you all might appreciate: 1. TF3 will never exist. That is all.
The game WILL get a sequel one day.

[editline]8th June 2012[/editline] I was going to make a community schema part 2 anyway, since there's enough to fix. I'm waiting for a major update though, since I expect a lot of easily fixable schema bugs.
Team Fortress: Global Offensive
The game WILL get a sequel one day.
No. It won't.
Here are some fun facts I think you all might appreciate: 1. TF3 will never exist. That is all.
And here you are accepting all the flattery on the other thread while here you're acting like a __________.
Until TF2 dies, TF3 won't be coming. And even then it would basically just be a supermassive update
No. It won't.
Yes. It will.
And here you are accepting all the flattery on the other thread while here you're acting like a __________.
I'm not being a blank, I just think TF3 is a really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really stupid idea.
I just hope they don't completely scrap the Team Fortress 2 universe. They created a game with unique characters and setting, something much more interesting than most first person shooters around. All that work for nothing? I don't think there's a need to make a Team Fortress 3 shooter for now. Why not expand the already existing TF2 world into other kind of games? A Team Fortress RTS? RPG? A TF2 Kart Racer? Since Valve seems to be all excited about trying new things, I wouldn't mind seeing more experiments like this. Even if they're mini-games or something like that.
Team Fortress: Global Offensive
Counter Strike: Australian Defensive
I kind of want TF3 to not carry over any items from this game. I want them to start anew. I'm not sure they'd want to make new characters though. It's possible they may though, perhaps they're getting sick of the present ones. It'll likely be at least another decade though.

Like make a TF2 bounty board on the Workshop for problems. Reward people with a hat or something.

Poker Night at the Inventory worked pretty well.
80s theme would be fine, something that isn't WWI/WW2, Vietnam, Modern war, or a Futuristic Terminator wannabe war.
I hope it has that hazy, brown, musty... filter thing? That 80s movies seemed to have. You know what I'm talking about.
A noir version would be cool.
Until TF2 dies, TF3 won't be coming. And even then it would basically just be a supermassive update
basically, like cs:go
Would you feel less offended if I said it like this? It's fine if you wanna just design a TF3 for fun, for yourself, but Valve would never make an actual TF3, as that would be retarded. Instead of just saying this, let me explain my reasoning. any re-imagining of existing TF2 characters would completely disregard any time and hard work the team have already put into developing the current ones. And that's several years work. Valve defiantly doesn't have a track record of this practise. Their 'thing' is to either bring in existing alien IP's and push them through the Valve art machine, or attempt at making something completely new/fresh/origonal themselves. Better they let TF2 exist as it does, and start a completely new universe, than remake one of their biggest cash cows. Why hack open your golden goose so you can rip that unborn foetus from it's uterus and put it in a nice new test tube? If any new games were to spring from the TF universe, they are more likely to come in the form of spin-offs like 'Night of the Living Poker'. But Valve is always trying to be as fresh, innovative and creative as they can, so I can't see a Saxton hale RPG ever existing either. Still, I'd like to see you try and make a TF3. I just think there are better uses of your time!
they wouldn't have to do any re-building in order to make a TF3 just because they changed the number doesn't mean the differences wouldn't be insanely big, if anything it'd be the left 4 dead 2 to left 4 dead. basically the same thing just with more stuff (and hopefully a more optimized client to allow more tolerance for multiple item rendering and the like)

Honestly, they won't be making a new TF game. They won't plop the existing characters in a different setting. They won't change the characters for a new game. They is no point. That idea completely lacks imagination. If they were going to bother, they'd just make a new game, separate from TF2 entirely.
to give it a name? lol
Just call the major optimization update TF2.5 then, ya?

I was thinking they could just transition the classes from TF2 to TF3 pretty painlessly. Uber managed to do it just fine for Monday Night Combat, and those characters also had a lot of personality. Plopping Engineer as he is now with a content specific outfit doesn't seem to me like it would destroy the work Valve has put into building Engineer's character. Updating the game to the new Source engine is another. Dropping DX8 support is a good reason A "clean slate" if you will. They could also fix things they can't fix because of money, like set hats and the Brainiac Hairpiece being a misc.
How about we get those major updates for TF2 first as Valve promised in their TF2-blog post back in February, hmm? Meet the Pyro, anyone? :downs:
