Also it's for Halloween
That excuses it not fitting the time-period and class profession, it does not excuse it from being on a class it does not fit the stereotype, personality, or appearance with.
throwing out a name suggestion could be a description, i guess, too The Bane of Your Existence [sp]batmen[/sp] The Burner's Bane
I'm dissapointed that you skipped over the obvious title of Rising Fire.
That excuses it not fitting the time-period and class profession, it does not excuse it from being on a class it does not fit the stereotype, personality, or appearance with.
Believe it or not, arson happens in locales where people are considered "hillbillies" as well. The Pyro's personality is so undefined aside from being a schizophrenic arsonist that it is not defying any class stereotypes, personalities, or appearances to a far enough extent to warrant being given to another class. The only justification for Engineer that has been presented is "he's from Texas." Not all Texans are hillbillies, and not all hillbillies are Texans.
I think a flamethrower that is more of a gun and less of a flamethrower is a cool idea. There's not really anything wrong with the pack. At one point Pyro was getting a gardening set, so the farm look isn't that big of a deal to Valve.
The Pyro's personality is so undefined
NO, FUCK THIS STUPID ARGUMENT.
I wish there was more hats and miscs based directly around the stereotypes of faceless psychos and mooks though. There are many items based on crazy, but not many based on psycho crazy. I want more hats and misc items based around masked psycho killers that kills people with excruciatingly brutal methods while laughing maniacally. Give me this kind of crazy, less pants on head retarded crazy. I believe that the non Pyroland parts of MtP is a very good example of the parts of Pyro's original character design that people have forgotten, and I'd love more cosmetic items based around a fearsome, faceless, sympathetically devoid psychopath that burns people alive. [editline]27th August 2012[/editline] Think of stereotypical horror movie psychopath chainsaw killers, then think of Pyro's personality, choice of weapons, his silhouette, and his official bio. He's meant to be a deranged psychopath pyromaniac with the profession so brutal that every other class considers it morally vile, while not showing a single sign of remorse or guilt about what he's doing, rather, enjoying every second of causing people to die in one of the most agonizing manners possible. He's NOT just a cute cuddly little confused anti-social nerd, he's a faceless monster who enjoys burning people alive.
Read this, get some real bloody inspiration, and come back with some Pyro and Halloween items that actually makes sense. Seriously. The idea that "Pyro has no defined stereotypes" is uneducated and wrong. Stop using it as a lazy excuse to put whatever the hell dumb shit that doesn't make any fucking sense on Pyro.
hey simski, chill out
Nameless faceless henchmen, horror movie psychopath killers, crossdressing serial killers, arsonists, pyromaniacs, pyrotechnicians, firemen, sadists, lunatics, unintelligible characters, faceless mysterious dark characters... that's just off the top of my head. There's plenty of stereotypes that fit Pyro perfectly, stop using your ignorance and lack of creativity as an excuse to make random garbage.
hey simski, chill out, or leave for a year again
Dude, uncool. I'm just fucking sick of hearing that argument.
NO, FUCK THIS STUPID ARGUMENT.
Arson happens in rural communities, this is a fact. The Pyro is an arsonist, and takes extreme pleasure in acts of arson. By an undefined personality, I was referring to in-depth character personality. All that anyone knows is that the Pyro is an insane arsonist that takes pleasure in what he does. Other than that, he is a mysterious man. Everything else about him is masked from everyone else, even his face to a literal extent. Part of getting into position to commit arson in the real world is to blend with one's surroundings. In a rural community, people will take note of someone who does not look the part, someone who blends in will have a much easier time getting close before it's too late for the hapless victims to make an escape -- someone in a suit and tie with nice hair and a briefcase looks out of place among rural residents. The Pyro doesn't look like a businessman, but you get the point. Also, you must be mindful of the Pyro's innovative creativity when it comes to weaponry. Take a look at both the stock Flamethrower and Degreaser, both appear to be hand-crafted from tools that can be found in the vicinity of where the Pyro may typically roam -- a number of things that make up his weapons can be found offhand at a hardware store or taken from an automobile or gas station. What justification do you have that the Pyro is incapable of using weaponry that is commonly found in rural areas? Pyro is creative and resourceful when it comes to arming himself; as such, the Pyro's weapons will reflect the setting that he is prowling for his next victims.
The only justification for Engineer that has been presented is "he's from Texas." Not all Texans are hillbillies, and not all hillbillies are Texans.
It's still significantly less of a stretch than a hillbilly theme for Pyro. Engineer's got the accent, the farmyard equipment and experience, the hoedown taunt, the nationality and the personality that could fit it perfectly. The only reasoning behind the theme for Pyro is "nothing fits Pyro, and therefor we can put anything we want on him". It's extremely fucking far fetched compared to how well it could fit with Engineer, and Pyro does not need a bunch of new themes that at best only fits him extremely vaguely, and definitely not when you're stealing themes that would fit better on other classes. You guys need to start treating designs for Pyro the same way as for any other class, he's not supposed to be your goto "random ideas for items" guy.
How about you let people make what they want.
We get your opinion, no need for further drama.
I'd like to apologize to the author. This isn't as much about your set specifically, as much as it is about the vast amount of these type of sets and the retarded idea that "Pyro has no definable stereotypes to base items on". Seriously guys. Stop doing uninspired shit for Pyro.
How about you let people make what they want.
Someone needs to make a brown box as an all-class hat. (Maybe excluding the Soldier, considering he already has a box of his own.)
Look at all these boxes ... But seriously, I'd have to agree with Demon. People should just make what they want. (look who's talking)
Look at all these boxes ... But seriously, I'd have to agree with Demon. People should just make what they want. (look who's talking)
The Dragon lord has spoken.
How about you let people make what they want.
You can do whatever the hell you want, I never said you can't. However if you make retarded ideas, you should not expect me to not call them retarded. Also if your reasoning is wrong, you should expect to be corrected.

The set is perfectly fine, it fits with the Pyro's resourcefulness with improvised and homemade weapons. It's not blatantly silly, it still has grim implications.
Well, we can see how much of a monster Pyro really is, theres an argument almost every time when talking about Pyro set themes and such.
I know this has been done a fair few times now, but ehh... Police Officer Soldier set. Police Hat Police Badge Police Radio banner replacement (siren flashes when activated) and the obligatory Truncheon for the melee.

Also if your reasoning is wrong, you should expect to be corrected.
Theres a difference between telling people once that the idea or theme of an item set is misplaced on a character and continuing on with hammering down that you find it retarded and that people should listen to you. It has already been established by Valve and the Community that the Pyro is a bit of an oddjob. He's both the merciless professional killer and the insane over joyous kid setting things on fire. This setting and his appearance makes it very easy to put on different jobs or themes onto him. Ranging from Lime with his dragons, Miles with his foxes, Sexy's Grim reaper or the ingame Grordbort. There has been worse offenders or the art style and the personality of a class, pointing it out once or twice is okay. Fueling drama and making a fool of yourself is a different thing. Let people pursue their own creative ideas.
If somehow that was added into the game, Valve will probably just not change the Buff Banner animations and have him blow the radio from the bottom of it.
Actually, he'd blow onto the top of it, unless he holds it upside-down for some reason. If it's rotated at the correct angle, he'd blow into the mic, which is acceptable, although talking into the mic is preferable.

It's the absolute worst bandwagon argument ever, and I'm really REALLY sick of all of Pyro's other stereotypes being ignored and random nonsensical or extremely vaguely fitting items get in the game just because everyone has accepted the idea that Pyro is the only class in the game who you never have to think about fitting the character when you create items. This opinion is repulsively wrong and has a very negative influence on what kind of items people make for Pyro.
Simski I understand you're deeply an idealist, but people really aren't going to be changing their minds on this. Pyro is the blank canvas for modders, and making an argument after an item has a significant amount of work done tends to rub people the wrong way. But I think you need to realize that even though he gets a lot of unfitting stuff, he gets a lot of fitting stuff too. He just gets a lot of stuff, period. Although, you did remind me to remake my first hat, a detached electric chair helmet for pyro. Think that's deranged enough?
This thread is getting 2 scary
So you want fitting ideas for the pyro? Ok, I've got one right here: Grrr!
and making an argument after an item has a significant amount of work done tends to rub people the wrong way
I actually did make the comment a lot earlier when it was still a WIP, but it was ignored. Also... this isn't so much about this particular set, as much as it is about the type of creation it is. I'm really sick of seeing Pyro's real stereotypes ignored and new unfitting stereotypes being created. I DO NOT like the idea of Pyro as a "blank canvas for modders", because I like all the characters in TF2 and their personalities, and I don't like that one of the characters is being constantly wrongly interpreted and the subject of out of character items.
