It would definitely look better without, it just seems a bit off when compared with brighter paints.
I can't help but feel that the whole scout head thing is a tad too dark for TF2. Great work otherwise though.

I really feel like calling this finished but I was told to make them paintable at half opacity. Should I do that or not? If yes, does someone have a paintability tutorial for me somewhere as I am clueless on how to do it with the specular map etc

Awesome. The (I assume jiggleboned) belt is the element that will give the silhouette that it needed. Really nice and clever touch. The texture is what will make the whole thing truly shine, I hope.

My idea would be to only make the seams and the parts to close the gloves paintable.

It's really stupendously nice! Looks like a crossover between the shotgun and the flare gun.

Sadly no, I found out last minute the KGB and GRU share the same model. The fastest way I solved it is to give the GRU the same textures as the KGB, because I haven't got the time to put flames on the texture. Hence the warning in the readme file.

I don't like the balaclava being yellow, man. It looks fine, don't get me wrong, but considering the inspiration (I love slasher films, MBV is an awesome one) I wouldn't use it there. Maybe make it paintable?
In the 3D remake at several points there is a break action shotgun. You could make THAT with flare gun animations, it'd shoot flares as a mod but the workshop could be a completely different story.
Also, last night I had an idea for a Pyro mask... um... yeah. I'll just leave this here.
