Very nice work, but what we really need is a program we can include in our mods that installs the mods for even the dumbest users.
for security reasons no web application can do this, but im sure someone could write a batch file to do just the job for you, im not that great with batch files so i bet someone with experience in the could do this easily.
All that needs to be done is get the steam installation directory, user name and then specify paths in the batch relative to the steam install directory that copy your files to those paths. may not be as easy as it sound though :S

What security reasons? There's a sims 1/2/3 mod installation program... People just need to trust that the .exe isn't a virus
Hell that's pretty similar to what I have been working on a few days.

Downloads the schema and icons, once (checks for updates on start) or clic Download schema.
Select a QC and then the models you want to replace, recompile and pack models for release.
So its like hatzilla but with all the items, always up to date with new items, since it downloads the schema, and doesn't crash.
ahh damnit, don't know what to do with myself now.... i wish i had said something months earlier, ohwel, big mistake.

Have you written any support for Buff Banners and items with styles/items that hide specific bodygroups? That was one of the main reasons I still didn't release the next version
For now I have a "ban" list of items (in a text file) that shouldn't display in the icon list.
I might write a function to support those kind of items like the buff banner, I'll have a secondary text file to define special items and their various models to replace, then the app would prompt asking for more QCs for the extra models.
Though those are pretty particular, in fact I think the 3 buff banner models are in the schema listed as items, so I could list those aswell in the app, I just didn't make a condition to process and display those yet.
Edit: I don't think I'll do support for bodygroups, I could thougn I'll look into it, but its quite specific, that can only be more problem if the user imputs wrong stuff, replaces the wrong models etc.

server side scripting (as i said, web applications) cannot access a clients local documents and do things like this (hence security issues), but yeah, an exe can be an alternative to a bat file, they can do that same things, but i think an exe will be much more user friendly so ill agree with you on that one.
Edit: For support of bodygroups all i was going to do was have the json file containing the bodygroups of each item, this would auto write the bodygroup into the finished qc.

but then this aint a particulary hard task. i mean, there are even tutorials on video on how does one instal mods, does people really need to be babysitted that much?

note: it will replace the flare gun, detonator, and manmelter. Remove the ones you don't want.
ugh, page king again.

Could use some tips on how to improve the texture.
Also: The string to hold it to the head isn't created yet

Yeah, i realized that.
Are there any way to remove the glasses from medic? I would like to make the mask for all classes, but the medics glasses makes it hard to fit the mask on him(I would like to avoid that the mask would have to fly a couple on inches in front of him, just because his damn glasses)

There is no bodygroup for the Medic's nor Snipers glasses, you'll need to work within the existing bodygroups, which do not include anyone's heads other than Pyro's or the Sniper/Scout/Soldier base hats and Scout's earpiece.

Now that so many people have offered to texture my medigun, I just created a package that contains the model files, baked AOs and a little picture to hint about the color scheme of certain parts of the models. The parts that are not highlighted are pretty much blank canvas for artistic freedoms. I hope whoever wants to give a try is able to figure out my complex uvmaps because I haven't made a guide layer to tell which part is which this time. The best textures will get into the items.

Putting them in. Just a moment. Will replace Quick Fix though.
I've been working on some unusuals in my free time...

I've got that classic mountaintop ring of clouds, icy misty stuff, and a tornado. I like them, but I think they're a little bit too vague and stuff. Any ideas for unusuals you'd like to see?

Quickly remapped the hose and updated the compiled models. The hose is now included.

I use a mouse and it works fine, pen pressure isn't massively important. Just change the angle jitter to direction and you're set

I had the idea of fireworks or fireflies for summer-themed unusuals back when I was hopeful we'd get new items for the summer sale. Any chance they'd be doable?

Ahh, okay. Thanks.
But i use Mudbox most of the time when i texture, i think its easier to get the layout off the colors right. And you get good looking brush strokes just by using a square brush with low strength.
How do you go about making paint able textures, I have seen the option when you have a alpha channel on your textures. Do you just make a gray scale channel of where the paint should be able to go?
Obiting birds/stars.
I want to avoid effects being able to get confused with other important effects. It's the whole reason I havn't made an electric unusual.

Things like fireworks and fireflies would probably be doable.
