Arguing the original theme is sort of beating a dead horse at this point. I say if it looks cool and isn't too jarring, go for it. Also.
The style and setting of vanilla TF2 was a very cool and unique thing, and a lot of the stuff that has been added since develops and elaborates on this style on a wonderful way. See the Alpine and Swamp mapping themes as well as the General's Formals, Gas Jockey's Gear, Expert's Ordnance and Clinical Trial sets for some prime examples. A lot of other stuff that has been added has completely ignored and subverted this style and setting, but that's no reason for us to do the same.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/o8qs37pa6vqshxv/fYsXQ5C4c5 could someone try their hand at making these replace all pyro lines? I'd be very grateful. [sp]and I would probably try to gift you castle crashers on steam[/sp]
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6909475/painterpyro.zip Here you go. These should work.
panting it purple so i can be waluigi
You have to paint it green first.

I'm just saying you can play fast and loose with it. However, TF2 has evolved its own aesthetic that goes beyond what it was originally.

If you're making an item that existed at the time, it's unnecessary for it to not to use the design it had when it existed back then. Likewise if you're making something that didn't exist back then, it's a good idea to make it look like it could have existed back then.

The first aluminum baseball bat was introduced in 1970.

And, also, aren't we supposedly in '72 now or something?

My first normal.
Can someone send me the mann vs machine money pickup sound? I know it's in tf/sound/mvm in the gcf, but for some reason gfcscape won't open the TF2 content. [editline]yey[/editline] oh hey, today's the day of my second year on facepunch :D
The first aluminum baseball bat was introduced in 1970.
That's an extremely minor error though IMO, especially considering that there's a calendar in the game with the date 1968. So I really don't think the aluminum bat should be used as an excuse to purposely ignore making things fit the time period.
Inline skates were invented in the 1800s
But not that modern looking design. They can be inline, but they should at least look like the skates that were around in the ~60s.
SLBros asked me to hex the engineer's toolbox for the triclops, but I have no idea how to do that! Can anybody do that? For the children? You don't hate the children, do you?
But not that modern looking design. They can be inline, but they should at least look like the skates that were around in the ~60s.
true, though I'd say ~70s

I just got my hands on the entire Super Smash Bros N64 soundtrack, plus the sound effects. I'm going to attempt a full conversion mod - replace the new class select theme with the character select theme from ssb, replace each class's mouse over sound effect with one of the ssb character select announcements (LIINK! MARRIO! PIKACHU! etc), the crit hit sound with the ssb bat hit sound effect, the regular hit sound effect with one of the ssb hit sounds, and maybe even some weapon sound effects (eg zitoichi/eyelander with Link's sword swing). That being said, who should each class be? As a reminder, the cast from SSB was Mario Donkey Kong Link Samus Yoshi Kirby Fox Pikachu Luigi Ness Captain Falcon and Jigglypuff.

Pyro should be Yoshi

Also Spy as Kirby because of the copy abilities.
Soldier could be Captain Falcon, maybe
Demoman as Link.
I do.

Scout should be jigglypuff.
Or maybe Luigi? They're both slim fellows who can jump really high. Or Ness because of the baseball bat.

Perhaps replace the mouse over sound with a clip (taken from the "x class is a spy" voice command) of each class saying their own class name? Although I suppose when you'd mouse over the pyro you'd simply hear "mmph" :v:
