Because, in the end, you sacrifice 2 hats for 1. You effectively are deleting 1 hat. You risk getting a worse hat than the ones you crafted.

Just crafted Ye Olde Baker Boy. Pretty disappointed to be honest, I really wanted the Troublemaker's Tosslecap.
Still, the Baker Boy is probably the second best Scout hat after the Tosslecap, so yeah. That four Refined Metals and Scout Token took ages though. This is my first crafted hat after ~200 hours :<

I crafted a football helmet and a whoopee cap too once, but I already had a toque and a bonk helmet anyway. In that case it's probably worth it.
