Bah, I don't think it's overrated at all.
It fits the TF2 theme perfectly, the colors fit Spy's clothes perfectly, and the hat itself looks stylish and mysterious and therefor fit Spy's personality perfectly.
Totally my favorite Spy hat, with Daimao's beret taking a close second place.
Sorry Daimao, your beret is absolutely fabulous... but my heart belongs to the Fedora

The Backbiter isn't a "bad" hat... it's simply not the best.
It looks too similar to the Modest Pile, it doesn't match his clothes as elegantly, and it simply doesn't look as stylish as the Fedora :3:
I prefer the Billy over the Fedora, good craft.
Hey guys, in my idling last night, I got a ushanka in my item queue.
Anyone want to trade a batter's helmet for it?
Well, 2 more refined for a random hat.
I wouldn't call the Fedora overrated, because unlike the Tyrolean, or the Tyrant's Helm, or the Brainslug, it actually fits the character that wears it in both style and personality.
As Shugo once said in another thread, the Fedora is good enough to be the Spy's default hat, like the Sniper's or Scout's.
I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that out of 3 refined I got a dupe bonk helm. The good news is that I crafted it with my dupe glove and got Ze Goggles.

What.
But yeah, fedora's pretty awesome. Beret still takes #1 for me.
The Tyrolean does not look like something the Medic would wear. He's got a whole doctor get-up going on, along with being known as a former Nazi (though Valve confirmed this was false.)
I personally even think Ze Goggles suit him more for his Mad Scientist look than the Tyrolean does.
The hallmark doesn't fit Demoman at all. He's a black Scottish cyclops. Not a pimp.
Speaking of the Hallmark, does anyone want to trade theirs for a Tippler's Tricorne?

I think the Tyrolean fits him perfectly, considering it's German background, reference to the Octoberfest soundfile/taunt, and reference to the Red Octoberfest achievement. It does however not fit his personality as much as the Fedora.
I think Medic is most definitely inspired by the stereotype of German nazi Gestapo though.
Perhaps Valve is telling the truth when they claim that he has no background alongside the Nazi's, but if they claim his personality isn't quite inspired by Nazi stereotypes... they're just lying.
Heh.
Heh.
If you mean me talking about the Nazi stereotype...
Let me introduce, Herr Flick of the Gestapo!

Compare his accent, tone of voice, strictness, his cold personality, and his posture.
Indeed. I guess I just don't see the Medic wearing something as fancy as the Tyrolean.

True that I do believe the Tyrolean is more connected to feeling of joy and intoxication that is Octoberfest... something not very fitting Medic's personality...
However it is a stereotypically German thing, and it looks very fancy alongside his suspended trousers. Therefor I think it fits his background well, and it fits his model very well too. It could very well be one of the hats that imply that there is a human side to him outside of the battlefield.
Well after playing 500 since launch, I finally get my first real hat

Which I crafted, not found. :(

Then why does he have a golf cap? If I recall playing golf is not part of the German stereotype.

Have you seen me making any long arguments about why the Gatsby doesn't suck?
Then why does he have a golf cap? If I recall playing golf is not part of the German stereotype.
It's part of the "golf doc" stereotype.
Let me show you an exemple:
*phone conversation*
Man: "Doctor, my wife is going to give birth at any minute now!"
Doc: "Sorry, I can't. I have a much bigger problem on my mind.
Doc hangs up
"Nurse, did my new Golf Clubs arrived yet"
Hey, does anyone want a Ushanka? I'll trade it for a Batter's Helmet.
Assuming the Polycount update comes out in a 3-4 months, anyone know how much items you'd get between them? i have 5 refined saved up for it so far, and i'm considering being jmpatient and crafting a pyro hat right now.

Item cap is how many items you can get max in a week.
The new pyro hat is decent, better than the beanie and whiskered gentleman( looking to craft a hat, not misc) IMO. but i still like the merryweather and fireman hat more, a 2/6 chance :ohdear: or i could go the heavy route and almost be guaranteed a decent hat.

Do you have a Batter's Helmet?
If so, I'll give you the heavy hat that every person seems to crave.
