So wait, what is this trade ban targetted for?

I just realized that they're taking a stricter stance to sharking... But not to scamming. That's just great. What would be awesome is if they left sharking alone and instead made a system to restore the unusual hats I had scammed from me. Oh yeah, and fixed steam trading.

Time to never trade again.

It's like the police would start arresting people for laws no one but the police knows. It's fucking bullshit. I just can't decide whether I should love or hate valve. Sometimes they work closely with the community, they give us glorious updates which makes me love valve more than any other company and then they take a shit on us like this. I would cash out if I wouldn't fucking love hats so much and if it wasn't risky. I also hate living with the fear of getting trade banned out of nowhere.

Um, I have no sympathy. Why? Because, the middlemen who decided to baby up and quit was out of their own free will. I have not seen valve explictly state anything along the lines of, "If you middleman, you could be banned!", and unless somebody actually provides a valid source, I won't believe Valve would actually do that. They're getting stricter, not going on a banning spree.

I don't trade super rare items and I don't buy items from players, so this shouldn't affect me. What I'm somewhat worried about is if I'd get in trouble for something like gifting. Like my friend needs ashes and I need a certain weapon (which he has an extra of) so we trade eachother the items. The items are obviously not of equal value, but it isn't really a trade; I'd have given him the ash even if he didn't have the weapon. Could I be banned, or would the other person have to report it in order for me to be in any kind of trouble?

Trading still has an influence in that regard, however.

I have to say that I'm starting to think this is a PR stunt or severely overhyped. You know that scammer AMA on reddit and HelenAngel's followup? Chances are the scammer AMA might not have been a real scammer. Helen's counter to it let the beans loose. :tinfoil: However, this is all a load of cold mold on a slate fucking plate. It's been disallowed by Valve for the longest time, and only now are people freaking out? Sheesh, out of all places I thought Facepunch would've been the least gullible. Leads me to believe either it's a PR stunt or overhyped cold mold. Plus, this coming from just one source and a few data points at that is no reason to freak out. If it happens on a widespread scale, then by all means freak out. But when you see this coming from just one source, it becomes all that harder to believe. SteamRep is a love-hate relationship.
