I wouldn't be surprised if we got a small bugfix today.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got a small bugfix today.
I'm hoping that something can be done about servers that are running older versions of the game still being available for matchmaking. It just makes people sit there for a length of time, and then boots them to the main menu so they're at the back of the queue again. The failure to connect after 4 retries and whatever "Bad challenge" is are understandable, server issues happen and nothing is perfect -- but not having a server running the most current version can be fixed very easily, there's no excuse for those to remain in the matchmaking system for as long as they are running an older version.

Valve is not in control of the community servers. This noted, just removing servers from matchmaking if they're running an older version should suffice. There's already an indication that a server is running an older version (as made evident by the message telling the player that), shouldn't the matchmaking server be able to recognize that and remove those offending servers? Although, I'm pretty sure the way it's coded it just services every server and client that connects to it (much like the item server), there should at least be some recognition of the current game version so people don't get mismatched into incompatible servers.

If the bot fails to connect for any reason - bad password, failure to connect, bad challenge, whatever, it won't let the server onto the whitelist. All servers must be "connected" to by the bot before you can connect to them via matchmaking.

Valve's got a track record of neglecting to update their servers immediately.

Valve's got a track record of neglecting to update their servers immediately.
Regardless, having some sort of automated system that prevents players from being rejected from the queue due to incompatible servers would alleviate the frustration of gambling with the matchmaking system. And servers that see absolutely zero traffic aside from people trying to connect via console would probably figure that it's time to update sooner or later. An attempted connection that's rejected by the two versions being incompatible is still traffic.
matchmaking as a whole needs to bake a little bit longer. Doesn't seem like it was quite done. It's faster to just use the server browser, and ironically the only time you'd ever have to use matchmaking is for MannUp mode, which you have to pay for.
Honestly, the thing that's really stopping my friends and I from playing mann up mode isn't the paywall - it's the fact that matchmaking takes so long. Given that we have a private server, why on earth would we wait through matchmaking.
Co-op matchmaking is becoming a lot like the play now button that was introduced with the Uber Update, though you didn't need to wait, it'd throw you into shit servers.
Co-op matchmaking is becoming a lot like the play now button that was introduced with the Uber Update, though you didn't need to wait, it'd throw you into shit servers.
I could never get the play now button to work.

So, who thinks those burning animations will take about as long to get implemented into the game as the High-Fives did?
So, who thinks those burning animations will take about as long to get implemented into the game as the High-Fives did?
Or even as long as the development time on TF2.
So, who thinks those burning animations will take about as long to get implemented into the game as the High-Fives did?
probably pretty long, considering last time I checked, they weren't even in the game anymore
I think TF2 needs a dance taunt.
So, who thinks those burning animations will take about as long to get implemented into the game as the High-Fives did?
There are even some hi-five animations that are unused. Primarily ones that are intended to intimidate or offend the other player character such as Demoman flipping the other person off or Spy making a cutthroat gesture.

That is... so sad. When I think of the TF2 animators actually taking their time to make such awesome animations and then just... not using them. That's a crime! Doubly criminal when you consider that there are even more important things to be animating, like weapons, that aren't even touched.
I think TF2 needs a dance taunt.
I'll be surprised if the Safety Dance is made into a taunt
also not in the files anymore
They pruned a lot of unused stuff during Pyromania, didn't they? All I remember being removed during Pyromania was the Baleful Beacon's backpack icon, I didn't know it was more widespread than that. [editline]20th August 2012[/editline]
I'll be surprised if the Safety Dance is made into a taunt
The band is too terrifying to be in TF2 in any way, shape, or form. It will be a halloween taunt only.
the high five rejection animations have been gone since the high-five was added. The sten animations were removed from Sniper also. I'm surprised they never removed the Engy vomit taunt when they did their Pyromania purge.

They gave an unused bottle animation to a bomb on a stick, they can find a way to use those other animations that they made :I
I think it'd be funny if classes started to say things the longer they hold their hand out for a high five. Like the spy getting impatient and going "Come on, slap it now!"or "Trust me, this is not a trick!"
well, the rejected animations start with the class with their arms already in the air, so not really entirely useful for anything
Still better to use it for something instead of just scrapping the work that was put into it.
Still better to use it for something instead of just scrapping the work that was put into it.
the Pomson still lacks a world reload animation Their animation priorities are kind of odd sometimes
The band is too terrifying to be in TF2 in any way, shape, or form. It will be a halloween taunt only.
what? they're just a new wave band from Canada, why in the hell would Men Without Hats be sca- oh oh you clever bastard
What a shame, I would've really liked the Baleful Beacon. I wonder how people can get so creative with Pyro Melees.
