Ooh, Drunken_F00l responded to a SUF thread about porting TF2 to newer versions of the Source engine. Something to consider.
whats with odd leveled weapon when you complete a tour, for example I just got a level 2 vita saw from my tour
How does one even go about porting a game to a new engine?
How does one even go about porting a game to a new engine?
Technically, it's still Source, but a different variant.
How does one even go about porting a game to a new engine?
I think they did it with HL2 a while ago, upped the engine to EP2's version.
whats with odd leveled weapon when you complete a tour, for example I just got a level 2 vita saw from my tour
That's a bug caused by the Operation Steel Trap Badge "levelling" up, causing other items to level up. Certainly something traders will exploit so they can sell these items for larger profits, if the bug ever gets fixed.
I think they did it with HL2 a while ago, upped the engine to EP2's version.
which is already the engine TF2 is on
which is already the engine TF2 is on
If they do up the engine to CS:GO's one, they'd have to drop DX8 support, wouldn't they?
Was there official word on this?
I've only seen other people talking about how the Operation Steel Trap Badge levels up other items as well. But from what I can gather is that when you complete a tour, the Operation Steel Trap Badge duplicates itself, levels the duplicate up, then deletes the old orignal, hence why when you complete a tour the Operation Steel Trap Badge unequips from all your sets that you have it equipped on. I don't see why they couldn't just have made it a Strange like the Spirit of Giving, instead of doing a completly over-complicated method.
I liked him. It was the gift shit that pissed me off.
They /have/ got to figure a way to make the gift thing fair. the whole thing just reaked of unbalanced difficulty due to it turning into a scout race. Also in an odd way the scream fortress bosses were like MvM Protypes....hell it actually is red and blue teaming up to fight something.
If they do up the engine to CS:GO's one, they'd have to drop DX8 support, wouldn't they?
Yes. In fact, there was a debate in one of these threads about dropping DX8. It'd be for the better, and I wouldn't be surprised to see if AMD or NVIDIA hop on board with the plan.
valve will never do it they can hardly even update older TF2 items because "people expect items they bought to stay the same"
valve will never do it they can hardly even update older TF2 items because "people expect items they bought to stay the same"
People have had almost a decade to jump ship off of DX8. There's no reason Valve shouldn't drop DX8 at least.
Doesn't the TF2 Beta run on a newer build of Source?
F00l made it seem like they wouldn't move it over to the engine, rather they could see if they could downgrade popular wishes down to the Orange Box engine. Anything they bring back down to TF2 will also help DoD and CSS, which are both still popular games (especially CSS).
Doesn't the TF2 Beta run on a newer build of Source?
Other than negligible tweaks, I wouldn't think the beta runs on a newer variant of Source. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Tell ya what, I would love to see Day Of Defeat: Source with CSGO's Cascaded Shadow Mapping. Don't know how well that would go with TF2, though.
Other than negligible tweaks, I wouldn't think the beta runs on a newer variant of Source. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I thought I heard somewhere that it ran on the L4D 2 build, and that's why you have to practically redownload the whole game to play the Beta.
whats with odd leveled weapon when you complete a tour, for example I just got a level 2 vita saw from my tour
That's even.
I want to watch Meet the Pyro on my TV god damnit!
xbox has youtube
Dropping dx8 would make me a sad panda.
People have had almost a decade to jump ship off of DX8. There's no reason Valve shouldn't drop DX8 at least.
Except some people want to play TF2 but can't afford a new computer/graphics card?
Imagine how angry people would be of they dropped DX8 support and they suddenly couldn't play anymore.
NECA has announced that the Pyro plush and the Scout plush will be released in September.
Oh my christ I have got to buy this i don't care if i don't have any money i have got to have a pierow plushy [editline]29th August 2012[/editline] wait no i just saw it hype lost
There is literally no reason to support DX8 any more at all, I seriously hope Valve drops support for Windows XP the same day Microsoft said they would stop supporting it too. As far as OSes are concerned, there is absolutely no reason to use software the vendor has officially dropped support for, and you damn well know that the second MS flips the switch that a whole batch of 0day/security hole will come out of the woodwork and basically own everyone using Windows XP still.
Imagine how angry people would be of they dropped DX8 support and they suddenly couldn't play anymore.
If it was a company like EA they'd pretty much say "How about they stop playing on toasters and get a REAL PC then? Doesn't EVERYONE have a swimming pool full of money?" The sad part of this statement is it'd probably be word for word.
"How about they stop playing on toasters and get a REAL PC then? Doesn't EVERYONE have a swimming pool full of money?"
Sounds like half of Facepunch to me
There is a reason to support DX8, and it's the wider range of people that'll be able to play your game. Especially a F2P game.
Dx8? Time to upgrade guys...
