U[QUOTE=psyke;37617266]So what would be the general reaction if corporate sponsors got into TF2 like a small promotion with a soft drinks company [ say. mountain dew ] that put a bag with the logo on it. in the game. redeemable if you purchased a 6 pack of cans or something. would it have touched too far. would the influx of new players be a good thing? Keeping in mind that there have been plenty of sponsored give aways related to games and contents [ normally with energy drinks companies Heck Deus ex offered people the chance to win a trip to Detroit [ pretty shitty area from what iv'e been told ] with rustlers [microwavable food-stuffs ][/QUOTE] I'd be against it. I hate advertising in general, do stuff like that would just bug the shit out of me. You know how in MNC there are "sponsors" and facetious plugs for fake products? Imagine that, but real. That'd be disgusting to me.

Also the last time Mountain Dew tried a viral promotion by having the internet name their new drink, 4chan flooded the ballot box with "Hitler did nothing wrong". Needless to say, that promotion was cancelled...
There is a line there and blatant product placement would clearly cross it. You could argue that product hats, miscs and weapons are doing the same thing, but they are not pushing it that far as long as it's for games that are available on steam.
I hope they fix the Chargin' Targe and Splendid Screen not blocking explosive damage soon.
It's interesting how gaia online [another service dedicated to collecting virtual hats and items ] does promotionals. The typical ones ask you to watch a trailer [ if you want to ] to get a bonus bunch of items that pertain to it. these have included things like adventure time. sonic the hedgehog games. and other content like movies and such, just from watching something i'm not sure if TF2 would be right for that kind of thing but to be honest we're half way there already. We now have items for playing on specific days. items for logging in on a different osx. items for donating to a charity.
I liked my Dr Pepper™ "Thirst Quenching™" Robo-Parts in SPORE™ way back when. I also loved how they were never released again, so if you missed out, you can't actually play parts of the real game without missing creature part bugs. These sorts of things seem to have long contracts, like 1-2 years long, before the promo officially "ends" so we'd probably be waiting quite awhile for them to tradable/craftable.
[QUOTE=psyke;37617377]Nothing good sir Now why don't you relax and sit back with a cool and refreshing mountain dew™ [img_thumb]http://www.whattheffacts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/mountain-dew.jpg[/img_thumb][/QUOTE] [img]http://i.imgur.com/3XEA2.png[/img]

[QUOTE=psyke;37617739]I remember those bot parts. that was such bullshit to anyone in the uk.[/QUOTE] or even certain parts of the US. I had a hell of a time finding the right can in upstate NY. Also I hate Dr Pepper, disgusting drink.

[QUOTE=NeoDement;37617830]my favourite drink[/QUOTE] [img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3412/3504636096_047f2a59cd.jpg[/img] Dr Thunder is way better.
If there is a Coca-Cola weapon promo, it should just turn the Scout into the Heavy over a long period of time, and make the Scout become addicted and bleed every time he doesn't equip the weapon in his loadout.

Confirmed: Lunchbox Drink for Medic's Primary
[QUOTE=emmens;37612179]How bad am I for thinking you should get an usual as the 20 promo? I mean, you spent 20 dollars that could have went to a whole other video game in itself, doesn't sound unreasonable to get a super special hat out of it. [sp]Also I want to see how badly the trade community would flip shit at the site of 'dirty' unusual's [/sp] on another note, would setting the rest of the mann up items as paintable be a schema, or valve server side related deal? I want a slate tin-pot[/QUOTE] Anyone?
Mountain Dew is disgusting. Sierra Mist master race
[QUOTE=emmens;37618056]Anyone?[/QUOTE] Don't they have to be set up to be painted in the schema? [editline]10th September 2012[/editline] [QUOTE=Totenkreuz;37618097]Mountain Dew is disgusting. Sierra Mist master race[/QUOTE] Enjoy your glorified Sprite.
[QUOTE=emmens;37618056]Anyone?[/QUOTE] Valve is wary of the economy that has manifested with trading, they would never create such a mechanic that would shake it up that much. It's a risky thing that could cost them more than it's worth if they ever did such a thing. And none of the robot cosmetics except for the Stealth Steeler have textures that support paint in the first place. Editing the schema to allow painting will do absolutely nothing but allow people to put invisible paint on the items.
Do the "bro gamers" who buy Doritos because Master Chief is on the bag actually play TF2?
[QUOTE=TectoImprov;37618106]Don't they have to be set up to be painted in the schema? [editline]10th September 2012[/editline] Enjoy your glorified Sprite.[/QUOTE] Oh man. You have NO idea how much I enjoy it. And that new straberry kiwi flavor? Sex.
[QUOTE=ned_ballad;37618121]Do the "bro gamers" who buy Doritos because Master Chief is on the bag actually play TF2?[/QUOTE] While there are some overlaps among the two communities, it seems apparent that the "bro gamer" demographic is much more console-based than PC-based. It's the stigma of "brogaming" being a social gathering, usually on a couch while playing split-screen. Steam seems to be edging closer to that with Big Picture Mode, but there's still the fact that a majority of the Steam library isn't built for split-screen like many console games are.
[QUOTE=Totenkreuz;37618123]Oh man. You have NO idea how much I enjoy it. And that new straberry kiwi flavor? Sex.[/QUOTE] Code Red's better.
my computer is too expensive for me to eat and drink around it. Never really understood how Doritos became a "gamer" snack when it's way too messy to eat while gaming. If I'm going to eat while gaming, it's usually wrapped candies (like Starbursts) or like M&Ms or pretzels, with no real mess to them besides crumbs I can just dust. I never drink around my computer. [editline]10th September 2012[/editline] If there was a promo for the matronomy of pretzel and M&M known as Pretzel M&Ms, I might just buy an entire warehouse. Jesus himself invented these [img]http://www.taquitos.net/im/sn/MMs-Pretzel.jpg[/img] My two favorite snacks, combined into an amazing blend of perfect. Always a big bag next to my desk that never lasts more than a day or two.
Excuse me, but why are we talking about snacks and drinks? Shouldn't we be talking about Team Fortress 2?

Oh yeah, and the Pretzel M&M's make me remember Crunchy M&M's. Anyone remember those?

Also I usually eat these at my desk: [img]http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lf1zoxP9Nc1qcph1h.jpg[/img] 100 calories !!!
[QUOTE=AbeX300;37618328]Excuse me, but why are we talking about snacks and drinks? Anyone remember those?[/QUOTE] on campus last year I found an old dusty vending machine way in the back of an old building that hadn't really been used in awhile for anything major. It had a pack of these in it. I savored that bag, knowing full well they hadn't been sold in years. Still tasted perfectly fresh too, even if the bag was probably half a decade old.
