We'll be performing routine maintenance on some of the Steam servers today, Tuesday September 18th, 2012 around 16:00 PDT (23:00 GMT).
Chat, game lobbies, and the community web site will be affected for the duration of the maintenance. Some content downloads may be briefly interrupted. Game play should generally not be interrupted but may be impacted for some multi-player titles.
In case anyone gets excited over planned downtime.
Jesus Valve, that's my fourth Soviet Intellectual. My next crate was Demo's pipe, but for god sakes, come on.
I'm done with these fall crates. 15 dollars in keys and I have 4 Soviet Intellectuals, a Medi-Mask and Demo's Beard to show.

HELLO MISTER BALLAD LET US ARRANGE A DEAL
I WILL GIVE THESE UNLOVED HATS HOMES
SOVIET GENTLEMAN IS THE BEST HAT IN THE GAME.
They're all already gone. One went to Napy, one went to my brother, and two became a human cannonball.
And down goes the servers.

For you promo fantasists out there, the next batch of Steam Greenlight games are getting greenlit on October 15th
I know I honk my horn on the trade economy frequently, but I was curious, is there any reason the more pricy promo hats arent craftable? Since most promo hats have started being craftable after a period of time I can't really see a reason for keeping early promo items uncraftable outside of market stability, which in itself is kind of a dumb excuse.

Because traders would throw a ginormous fit. SPUF would be so full of angry threads it'd probably catch on fire.

But then what would that make me, if I'm part of FacePunch and SPUF?

You would come out looking like Harvey Dent
they made 2/3 of the MNC items craftable without any complaining at all. It was expertly done, quietly during a huge patch and 2 hats nobody really cared much about.
If they quietly do the lesser ones first (maybe Ellis Cap next) and work up in value, all as undocumented changes of much larger patches (so people don't notice or care), then it could be done.

So in theory they could start with the halloween update?

Say that to his faces.
Not online see what happens.
So in theory they could start with the halloween update?
Could do Dealer's Vison, Stockbroker's Scarf and the Companion Cube Pin first, test the waters. Move onto maybe Foster's Facade, Aperture Labs Hard Hat and Ellis' Cap. The Accessories could be sometime in here also, although that's a pretty popular item, but not one that's widely spread enough.
Then on day just quietly do a small schema update on a friday to make the Lugermorph craftable, see where that goes. Give it a weekend to calm down, which I'm sure it would. Come out with a big, popular item, but one that isn't worth too much and is already easily distributed.
From there the floodgates are only containing the "big guns" of promo items, Big Kill, Earbuds, Bills, and Max's Head. Not sure how they could calmly do these, it's just such a huge wave they'd have to either do all at once or maybe risk doing one every month or so to let the markets settle.
(the Pan can't be made craftable, sadly, because of its all-class status)
However, they probably won't do any of it. iirc, the fact that 2/3 of the MNC items are craftable was testing done by f00l, so whatever ambitions he had to do it was lost when he moved from the team.
This is why we should get you hired on at valve. You get things

you can't be hired just to do 1 specific thing at valve though.
he would probably end up like DF.
At first, he's excited and only does shit for TF2, but eventually he'd get bored and move on to other things in a few months.

But what a glorious few months they'd be. Schema fixes, More craftable item, Speedy bug fixes. A fixed loch n load AND lugermorph.
It would be grand.

And no new weapons.

I wonder why they didn't make the older ones genuine.
I just want the Triclops craftable. I really really want it. :(
[sp]Too lazy to play the game and get to level 20[/sp]
I don't even know if it's possible to get to level 20 anymore. The number of players is close to triple digits.

I have it, and I wish it was a misc like all those other full head replacements for Pyro.
But noooo, they just had to let parts of the normal head stick out as part of the 'complete' model. ;-;
Not worth playing so much SMNC at all, I say.
If they had made it smaller and added a filter to the side, there's no reason it couldn't have been a misc. The only reason it's a hat now is because it's so large to fit over Pyro's normal head, so it clips with all hats.
One thing I'd like to see changed is how achivement weapons work. They're untradable already, shouldn't they be uncraftable as well?
I think all achievement items should be in genuine quality. That's just my stance on it. I barely use the achievement versions anyway, I just have them as trophies. If I want to use Natascha or the Buff Banner, I just use my Vintage ones.
It's common for many people to start crafting their achievement weapons into scrap, ending up with uncraftable, useless metal. They might end with an uncraftable hat, which they won't probably even like. And they won't even be able to trade it for something they want, because they crafted untradable weapons in the process. If achievement weapons were just uncraftable this problem would be easily averted.
or just make achievement items tradable and craftable.
Why aren't they tradable?
or just make achievement items tradable and craftable.

To stop new players from getting rid of the basic unlocks and not having a fit of silliness or not knowing what to do and trading them for something worth less, I suppose.
