Totally unrelated to the topic...
Fun fact: source recorder is incredibly bad at using all of your computer's power. It was capping at about 25% usage.
More fun fact: The most effective way to boost your throughput is by running multiple tf2 accounts in sandboxes and having them all render at once. Almost no slowdown on each one, and you can render three clips at a time.
Don't ever change, source.

I think this made me realize how much I love the ghost head
chains for the pyro now
instead of money banks like Marely they could be matchbooks.
Halloween 2011 was awful in every aspect.
And during that time I personally had a buttmad stalker following me on any server I went trying to make me rage, even though I killed him ~7 times everytime he got me.
halloween 2012 can't be any worse for me

I loved the Monoculus event. Was so fun playing Scout on Eyeaduct, I actually did really well for once.
what happened to everybody hating it?
what happened to everybody hating it?
It wasn't necessarily bad. It just was nowhere near as great as the Horseless Headless Horsemann.
When he spawned, he froze the game status by locking the control point. Then he does fly-by's and crits random people who are near him when he's passing through. Players who enter the underworld and escape alive are granted uber + kritz, but instead of using that to target Monoculous, people targeted other people. This coupled with the fact that no one knew where he was or going just made it confusing and frustrating, but not that bad of an experience if you just felt like seeing some halloween-themed fighting.
The Horsemann didn't interrupt gameplay aside from him utterly destroying everyone in his path, you can still play the map with him running around slaughtering people. It's just RED vs BLU vs HHH, there's no questioning where the Horsemann is going, he has a very clear target that he's chasing after. There's no underworld gimmick or anything, just the map layout, pumpkin bombs, halloween candies, and Silas Mann.
I think the relative simplicity of the Horsemann fight is what made him so appealing. There's no underworld to worry about, there's no random teleporting, just a huge bot with a ton of health and an instakill axe that ran around on foot killing people.
I think the thing i like so much with the horsemann over the eyeball was the slightly fearful but fun nature of it
the eyeball spawned and just pissed everyone off.
the horsemann spawned and it turned into a hilarious game of tag with this giant death machine. the screen shook and the earth boomed as he targeted random people.
something just better than being barraged with crockets.

I like that you can incorporate the Horsemann into your strategies. Lead him to the enemies while your buddies cap! Cap the point while the Horsemann wrecks shit!

Also it actually inspired some cross-team teamwork. Have a Scout bait him and let everyone wail on him from behind since he's focused on that Scout. That is until he uses the "BOO!" taunt, stuns everyone near him, and then selects one of them to be the one whose day he wants to fuck up, then begin with the slicing and dicing of everyone else who is still stunned by him.

Boy you said it.
I'm hoping whole halloween present gets retooled. Really sucks the fun out of saying "Oh hey present!" when suddenly Zerg rush of scouts leave you completely wahoony shaped as they trample you to get to the prize.

They should play eeny, meeny, miny, moe and make a big deal out of it, including some kind of on-screen slots machine thing, where a number of gifts is given out at a time according to number of players on the server, and players who have just recieved a gift cannot until everyone on the server at that time has recieved one (so a person who stays on a server will recieve gifts even with people joining and leaving)
I loved hunting the presents as scouts on mann manor. The excitement of knowing that not only the enemy, but loads of teammates would fight me in order to get the present was intense

I AM A ROBOT FROM THE FUTURE
Favourite part of Halloween 2010? Mann Manor, I love that map and I'm proud to support it while I wear my World Traveler's Hat.
Yep, 2010 was helped a lot by being a great map. Harvest was great too, but it pales in comparison to the Horsemann.
Eyeaduct was a map we had all played to death with some new props and a boring boss. It didn't really get terribly interesting until the "MONOCULUS HAS GOTTEN ANGRY" patch, but that only helped a bit. It still was a chore when he appeared and slowed the entire game down.
I think this week we should expect something bigger than a friday bugfix update. Last year, on 27th they updated the loadout system on the beta and yesterday ned found another mysterious promo added in the schema, probably Grodbort stuff.
what i loved in halloween 2011 was the underworld , not gameplay wise , just the look of it , it looked awesome
the fact that Valve is working on this new compiler makes me think TF2 is in this for the long haul and our worries of TF2 dying were somewhat unfounded.

I don't know why anyone would think one of the most popular games in all of gaming would be dying.
After hearing about how small the TF2 team is, I think this update is probably going to be as small as the first one.

They released MtP and Tobor Update on summer, maybe we'll get something good
