Subtle references would be like the team captain. It looks a hell of a lot like M Bisons hat, but it never says it in the description or the name. Blatant references would be like the fake posted on SPUF and promo items for games like brink and deus ex.

I'm getting so fucking sick of being completely unable to play MvM at all, when friends host games, I need to download this Hamachi shit, or the game says "No ad-hoc connection or some other bullshit.

That sort of pop culture works, but I personally wouldn't want my favourite cartoons being referenced in tf2 because they don't need to be, it's just unessesary irritation for people who are sick of the hype.

They probably already learned their lesson about ponies anyways, considering Gabe likes them. He probably already knows there's a massive community that also hates them as well.
