Shotgun would see a lot more use and you'd be able to use it on the soldier engie and heavy.

Well recently a ton of people got community weapons from the competitive scene, such as skyride, cube, byte, seeker, wm and greaver (to name a few), for shoutcasting, organizing games/lans and managing the scene (seeker and wm in particular for ozfortress. jeez you have no idea how much seeker does).

I don't know, personally I would prefer a community weapon be something less bland than a stock all class weapon.

I don't understand how it's bland nor your definition of interesting, okay the engy and soldier have got laser replacements etc, but if valve came up to me and said 'you can either have this community stock scattergun or this community novelty piece of shit baby face's blaster', I'm not hesitating, gimme the scattergun, the one that I'll actually use more than the 'interesting' weapon. Rather than interesting, let's rate weapons on fun. I find weapons that don't cripple me horribly fun.

Because shotgun is a secondary weapon who's unlocks are not crippling in any sense, and those unlocks are much more fun to use and provide more tactics than a standard point and shoot shotgun you can find in any shooter.

the gunboats are useful
the buff banner and backup are sometimes useful
the concheror is a joke
the mantreads are a joke
the reserve shooter is rarely better than the shotgun
the bison is a gimmick that deals okay damage
the shotgun is a reliable secondary than can output large damage consistently and quickly at close range
I'm not seeing what's not to like
