"Festive Crates!" said Robin, his eyes rapidly unfocusing. "And they can only be unlocked with a Special Festive Key!" He brandished a set of special keys to his house and car. "Are you drunk?" asked Tom Bui, taking Robin's special car keys away from him. "Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!" Robin agreed.
This made me laugh all over again. Anyway, I really think that toggable options idea should have been adapted for reskins. Isn't making the golf club a separate weapon from the eyelander confusing for new players? What if, I dunno, there was a tool that unlocked the ability to switch skins or something? Actually, maybe that's convoluted. Still! Something similar would have rocked. Think of how much confusion it'd save a new player if being killed by an "Nessie's Nine Iron" was reported as being killed by a "Eyelander (Nessie's Nine Iron Skin)". He just has to learn about skins once, rather than remember each and every reskin's stats.
Reskins should be promo items only, never community made. Community reskins was a terrible idea. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] because that's just adding weapons for the sake of adding weapons
Major Balancing Thread V5: We're better than SPUF and Pyroland is OP edition
Reskins should be promo items only, never community made. Community reskins was a terrible idea. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] because that's just adding weapons for the sake of adding weapons
I still have condolences for Neodement. Such a shame.
I still don't see why I shouldn't be given the option to toggle Pyrovision off so I can see the Rainblower taunt normally or be able to wear the goggles with no visual changes. Imagine if whenever you eat a sandvich, the heavy just stood stock still and nothing happened, but everyone else saw you eating the sandvich. Wouldn't you want to see him eating too? Would you say "No, the downside is not being able to see the Heavy eat the sandvich, which offsets the effect of healing yourself."
I wish it was, like they actually designed it that way and it looked like that. Remember all that reskin stuff I said earlier. I'll make one exception, the Candy Cane. It's the only weapon in the entire game I want a reskin for. Actually, I want them to go one further, I want them to make the reskin the default, and make the Candy Cane the reskin.
They shouldn't reskin the Candy Cane, its distracting texture is a balancing feature.

The animation is still exactly the same regardless of the world you are in. A heavy eating a Sandvich still is eating a Sandvich, no matter what particles you throw onto him.
two questions real quick: has he ever explained how he makes those kill icons? they're amazingly fitting. also, have any reskins gotten a strange variant yet? I want a postal pummeler one day.
Can he do it, or is the rage train out of fuel?
The Heavy would gain health, but he'd stay stock still when the effect takes place, whereas everyone else can see the eating animation.
They shouldn't reskin the Candy Cane, it's distracting cosmetic appearance is a balancing feature.
Uh no. You can't even see the damn thing about 95% of the time. The only reason for it looking like that is because it was for a Christmas update.
I still have condolences for Neodement. Such a shame.
and then they have a chance to make it a bit better and give the Bootlegger custom sounds and they go and ignore them :|
and then they have a chance to make it a bit better and give the Bootlegger custom sounds and they go and ignore them :|
And the bottle is still broken. Despite it being advertised as shattered on the Manniversary page AND in the in-game main menu portrait of the Swashbuckler's Swag set.
The Heavy would gain health, but he'd stay stock still when the effect takes place, whereas everyone else can see the eating animation.
have you seen the Rainblower's taunt? In Pyroland, sparkley noises and a horse neigh play, while pyro takes out a bubble wand and blows bubbles around a rainbow, then cackles as the rainbow explodes into flames. In regular world he simple blows fire out of his vent thing in an arch pattern, and then cackles, letting out a huge explosion in flames. This taunt also has slightly louder and more dramatic music to it. Both are visually distinct, Pyro doesn't just stand there in the real world and suddenly everyone around him dies.
Giving Bootlegger custom sounds although cool, does not sound like a major feature worth spending much time grieving about when we have things like the Loch and Load still not having proper animations.
it would take them the better part of 20 minutes to implement the walk sounds for the bootlegger and the treasure chest. Everything is all set up, they just need to copy and paste the cleats' attribute and change the pointer for the one foot, and erase the other foot. For the chest, just copy the jinglebelt's attribute, with a different sound assigned.
In regular world he simple blows fire out of his vent thing in an arch pattern, and then cackles, letting out a huge explosion in flames. If we can't turn off Pyroland because it would be imbalanced for it to have a killtaunt, then I'd rather have the taunt no longer be able to kill people than to not be able to use the taunt in the normal world. I would even like it as an action slot taunt. I just want the taunt, killtaunt or no, without Pyroland.
Giving Bootlegger custom sounds although cool, does not sound like a major feature worth spending much time grieving about when we have things like the Loch and Load still not having proper animations.
The difference is that footstep attributes actually exist in the game already and are usable (even though a new one is needed because the attribute doesn't accept a sound parameter) but new animations are a whole nother monster when you get into the game's guts and code.
now who's the selfish one...
Tons of other people just like me want the exact same thing, but the only reason we're supposedly not allowed to is because some people who can choose to not disable Pyroland thinks that would ruin the weapon for them. No, this is a matter of people like you guys not wanting other people to have fun.
anyway, I was going to email them about the unused sounds tomorrow anyway, because it's just so easy to implement and they might not even remember the sounds exist and are already set up. Hopefully they do it, although I might regret it on the bootlegger if it ends up being a little annoying.

Which is why my solution is to allow Pyrovision to be toggleable on all Pyroland items, or is only toggled by wearing the Pyrovision goggles. I think this would be a fair compromise, so those that want to see Pyrovision can, and those who choose not to don't have to.
How is not wanting the stock flamethrower to become literally pointless to use in light of the alternatives (like the Bonesaw and Fire Ax) wanting other people to not have fun?
If you won't allow it because you think it would make the stock useless, then I won't take you seriously until you start crusading Bonesaw and the Fireaxe about as much as you guys have about this. Hell, you can remove the taunts ability to kill if you think that's what makes it an upgrade.
but it being able to kill is what makes it fun and different...
so you want a straight upgrade to the flamethrower... :/ If you guys want a straight upgrade to the flamethrower with absolutely no downside or changes besides a taunt kill, just say it straight.
No, I want the default flamethrower with the taunt. You can remove the ability for the taunt to kill, and I would still want it. As a cosmetic, because that's what the Rainblower is, a cosmetic skin. I just want to be able to enjoy both sides of my cosmetic, just like how hats have different styles.
What if, instead of disabling pyroland entirely, you would be able to toggle whether it cuts out whenever you go into third-person? After all, you're not looking through the character's eyes anymore.
so you want a straight upgrade to the flamethrower... :/ If you guys want a straight upgrade to the flamethrower with absolutely no downside or changes besides a taunt kill, just say it straight.
A tauntkill shouldn't be considered a real statistic because no one is actually gonna use it in serious gameplay. The amputator heals nearby teammates when you taunt, and I haven't really heard a lot of backlash with that. You're also not taking into account that you're really vulnerable while you're in the middle of the taunt.

You can clear whole points with the taunt if the enemy isn't paying attention.
