Major Update Speculation V5: Somewhere over the rainbow

TOBOR: Probably later on in the Summer, maybe during the Summer Sale (new achievements and player interest and whatnot, it'd be a good time to advertise this huge thing since everyone is gonna be swarming the shop).
Saxxies: A bit later, once some really cool original stuff has been made with SFM. Basically, once it's distributed to enough people that there will actually be a contest and not just a handful of videos submitted by a few dozen guys.
Three men go to a hotel.
They decide to share a room.
The guy at the desk tells them the room will be $30.
Since there are 3 of them, the men each chip in $10 to pay the bill.
Once they get up to the room, the guy at the desk realises that he made an error.
The room was actually $25, he overcharged them by $5.
The guy at the desk sent the Bellhop up to the room to refund their $5.
Before knocking on the door, the Bellhop thought of something:
There's three guys and $5. He could just tell them they were overcharged $3 and pocket the extra $2 himself.
The Bellhop gives the men $3 back and keeps the $2 for himself. Each man gets $1 back.
This means that each man paid $9.
9+9+9=27.
27+2=29.
What happened to the last dollar?

The men have it, because they were refunded $5, the bellhop kept 2 and they got 3.
30 -3 = 27
27 + 2 = 29
You're playing math tricks with us.
Other guy got it first, so lemme pick your brains for a second:
Let's pretend you're in charge of a big decision over at the TF2 Factory. There is a machine with two buttons:
Pressing AGREE would make tokens actually useful for crafting. Imagine there being hat, misc, tool, and paint tokens as well, and recipes that are cheap enough to be worthwhile, but not enough to make trading pointless, either.
Pressing DISAGREE would remove tokens entirely, and adding recipes along the lines of "2 bonk cans + one helmet = that one hat I don't recall the name of"
TWIST ENDING: this post is actually that machine and the buttons are the ratings !!
and also you aren't in charge of this decision but the machine would like to know your opinion !!
also I guess you can rate "dumb" if you would rather not press either button and keep things the same forever

I agree only if the hat and paint tokens involve refined.
I agree only if the hat and paint tokens involve refined.
It would be about 3 hats like about every other token.

1 hat + 2 Refined would be good to me.
in the pattern of REF + HAT + REF too.
also COMING SOON: a post about gamemode ideas by me.
[editline]2nd July 2012[/editline]
Here are some ideas for new gamemodes:
Domination:
A mode where there are 3 - 5 capture points in an area, the points cap speed is instant, only requiring any person to run up to a point to capture it, but if someone on red runs onto a blue point, they ALSO capture it instantly.
Each team has a counter that can go up to 999 points, the more caps you hold the faster the points on your teams counter add up.
Examples of Speeds:
1 point capped: 1 point added to the counter every 5 seconds
2 points capped: 1 point added to the counter every 4 seconds
3 points capped: 1 point added to the counter every 3 seconds
4 points capped: 1 point added to the counter every 2 seconds
5 points capped: 1 point added to the counter every second
Basically a fast paced mode involving capture points and the total "domination" of an area.
CTF Attack versus Defend:
(the mode is supported 100% for mappers, but the mode really needs some officialization love)
Basically, one team attacks, one team defends, the attacking team has to carry a flag to certain points and when the flag hits the designated point it has at the moment, the next point is assigned to the attackers. Defenders of course have to stop the flag carrier and defend the flag while its on the ground to make sure it doesn't get picked up again.
I have played a remake of the TFC map Avanti in this mode and BOY is it fun. It really needs official support somehow.
Raid Mode:
The original name of Man Versus Machine mode, it would involve both teams, red AND blue, having robot minions who attack the enemy team and their robots and capture certain points before you, your team, and your robot minions attack and destroy the enemy base. So yeah, pretty much an SMNC/MOBA mode for tf2.
This idea has been brought up in this thread before, but its not confirmed to be in anything so far, so im just bringing it up for further discussion.
King of the Payload:
A gray colored payload cart is placed in the middle of a payload track in a map. It can be pushed forwards AND backwards. Your job is to try and push the payload into the enemy base, while trying to stop the enemy from pushing the payload into your base.
This mode would require both teams to split into groups, one part of the team focuses on pushing the cart, while the other focuses on trying to stop the enemy from pushing the cart into your base. The support classes fit in through the fact that they can shift between the two roles of offence and defence.
Thats all ive got for now, ill come back when i have any more ideas.
King of the Payload already exists, albeit unofficially.

Then ill try to make a map for that mode sometime that doesn't have a giant dog on a cart. (why?)

Because the payoff for dropping the payload is awesome. Remember that idle map witht the cat?

Is Mann vs Machine going to be One team vs Robots?
Does anyone have an idea on how it will work? Which team will be the defending team?

Looks like it will be a team vs robots, but we do not know what team as both have been seen mulling over the to or pictures in foundry and doomsday. The one team may be both teams combined.
A buddy of mine speculates it'll play like killing floor, in that it's you vs waves of baddies, and you can earn money and upgrade your class.
I think he's nuts but we'll see won't we?

A KF type gamemode would be nice. But upgrading your class by earning money? I doubt that. I think it'll be somewhat like GunGame. That eachround you get a new weapon for your class.
From soundfiles, you can buy stuff and get power ups (and upgrades).
I imagine it to be a sort of tower defense-ish wave based survival mode. If you've ever played Horde mode from Gears 3, I'd say that's a fair point of reference. You might not be able to play an engineer, but could kill tobors to earn points, spend points to purchase and place sentries, place dispensers, maybe put in some map hazards to slow down advances, close off certain routes, and so on.
The equalizers new skin looks like it was made in Paint.
Damn lazy Valve. There would be no obstacle to use shovel from The Dumpster Pack.

I love Tower defense, it being in 3d form and on TF2 sounds all the more fun. I really like that Revenge of the Titans game on Steam.
Maybe those upgrades and things could be cosmetic items with stats, and the only affect how much killing power you have against TOBORs rather than players.
I'm thinking it might be like a simplified version dota, kinda like monday night combat. Get your teams robots into the enemy base to destroy something there. Though without any new advanced features like selecting what types of robots or needing a number of points to buy robots, but using things like capturing control points/intels to gain more reinforcements. I think that expecting Valve to implement any system where players can earn points that they can use in the game is a bit too far fetched, it's not really the TF2 style and it would probably be a lot of work balancing such a system to be useful in a team based gamemode.
Just a thought.
But, from some hints it may be more likely to conclude that only one side is player controlled.
But, from some hints it may be more likely to conclude that only one side is player controlled.
Sooo, is it going to be a massive battlefield of both team combined against a huge team of robots then?
Because that sounds SWEET.

The room costed 25 bucks,they paid 30.
They get 3 dollars refund 25 + 3 = 28.
The Bellhop kept 2.
28 + 2 = 30.
Yay math.

He lied when he says that each man got paid $9. Can we move on from this? I thought this was a well known non-mathematical puzzle.
Right it's a full moon again. Just went onto a server I had not restarted since it began and I could use my items.
As in they may have finally fixed the full moon items "bug" where you could not wear items during full moon if the server had not been restarted.
But a bug, the doublecross main menu background is no longer working it seems.
Need confirmation on both.
EDIT: Just tried the equipping again, it wasn't working. Odd, I know this server has no halloween holiday plugins or commands active. They could have changed it to need a mapchange rather than a restart though.
Tried on a variety of servers, including valve ones that couldn't possibly have restarted in 10 minutes and got a full playerbase again. So I'm going to assume it's fixed to either mapchange or instant.
I'm hoping TOBOR will be like L4D survival cross with that Invasion tower defense mod for Doom 2. With hundreds of zombies running in from every direction with the team trying to stop them from getting to a certain location/destroying a certain objective.

But then people would bitch about the Soldier getting too many items.
People complained that the Soldier was getting weapons. Then they complained the Soldier only got 1 weapon. God damn I hate TF2's community sometimes.

There's times when I think some people seriously believe Valve is a buffet
