Not really sure what they're going for. A lock swinging? Coins rattling in it? The knife sounds are "good enough" for that, but it is an odd choice to even have the item use sounds.

I'm going to take this information with a grain of salt until I see some solid evidence such as an item with the part applied to it or the part itself in someone's backpack.

The Sharp Dresser has unique animations and backstab kill icon. The Holy Mackerel has the hit counter (enough of a difference to class it as a separate weapon). The Lollichop enables Pyrovision. And so on. While it's possible, I certainly wouldn't want to have a mechanic that relies on a critical hit when there's no way to guarantee a crit like the rifles and knives have.
