I assume he created a keygen, but I don't know anything about how that's done myself. Honestly, if they are counterfeit codes and people are paying a ref for a hat that Valve might delete, I don't really care that much. If you sat around for five days and didn't get a single code, it's really your own fault. Maybe if the hat were more visually interesting, I might think: "Yeah, it would be a pity for someone to want that hat and not get it because of some e-mail malfunction," but it's an ugly hat that only "reps AdultSwim".
That sounds most likely, but his SteamRep page says he has connections to two scammers (reasons apparently not supplied by the admins), so right now it's plausible they may be connected as well and are circulating codes.
You already exploited the system to get multiple codes with the intent of gaming the economy. Ethics isn't exactly a point you can argue.

And I only signed up extra e-mails so that I could be sure to get one: it took two days for me to get one for my Yahoo account, even though I signed it up the 22nd or 23rd. And they sent me a second one for that account today, though I haven't checked yet whether that's the same code they sent me last week (it probably is). I keep thinking to myself, "Maybe I ought to give away these few extra codes," but I have a sneaking suspicion most everyone will get a code if they just wait long enough.
I haven't activated my extra codes. I didn't try to game the economy; I've never thought these would be worth more than craft hats. Besides, I feel like people owe Valve for making the game F2P. If you want the premium features of this utterly fantastic game, you should pay for them.

But yeah, I see where you're coming from. Was just noting something to prevent a moment of hypocrisy.
I'll probably go ahead and make a thread detailing what has happened (including him being shady as fuck), and what might be happening leading up to this in the morning. Any objections?
I'll probably go ahead and make a thread detailing what has happened (including him being shady as fuck), and what might be happening leading up to this in the morning. Any objections?
I don't think it's necessary to focus so much on this one guy. He's not the only one with a billion extra codes. Like I mentioned earlier, I saw people on Outpost talking about having made 25+ codes themselves to get buds, and I think someone on reddit said that there were two or three people on /vg boasting about having 1000 or so codes, but I don't remember which thread that was. If he did just register 1500 of accounts using a program (which isn't unfeasible, since he had 5 days for that script to run, if it could bypass a CAPTCHA), then I don't think anything will happen. After all, AdultSwim.com recommended signing up multiple accounts if you had trouble getting the code, so I don't know whether it technically violates their terms of service unless he makes a keygen. And if he did, I don't think Valve would punish unsuspecting buyers. That, again, is also assuming he even gets that many buyers, which will be hard to do without the visibility of /r/tf2trade or Outpost (he was banned by Giraffe until tomorrow for selling codes, and he has been at it for quite some time from the looks of this post).

Unless the /v/ posters are just coincidences (remember: 4chan practically forces people to stay anonymous or face potential dox for no reason), something's up.
The adultswim newsletter doesn't require a captcha. If I had a mail server I'd make myself a bot to register over and over.
It's worth nothing that there are currently 21,645 Robot Chicken hats now, only slightly more than the 21,394 Aperture Hard Hats, and rarer than the 38,266 Lumbricus Lids. What will skew these stats is how many codes are lying dormant, waiting to be used. Edit: And, of course, perceptions of it being very common and not being a particularly cool hat will also keep it from being very expensive, but I thought that was interesting.
Oh lawdy. With SFM, my future Hat Wearing Man parody magazine covers I make for the new major updates are going to be amazing.
I'll probably go ahead and make a thread detailing what has happened (including him being shady as fuck), and what might be happening leading up to this in the morning. Any objections?
Color me intrigued.
The same guy that attempted to sell the metric fuckton of keys said that it doesn't work. Of course, he's shady already himself, so I wouldn't count on his word.
Your buddy is right. Gave one of my friends my second code and they say it didn't work.
Yes. I would paint it Balaclavas, but that's not quite the right color, since it should complement his balaclava, not match it, and you never wear a tie the same color as your jacket, so Debonair is out of consideration. The only option is Team Spirit, which would be somewhat fitting since the Doctor Whoa is that color, but that's too gaudy for the Spy, and this isn't supposed to be a new tie, anyway, it's supposed to be the old tie with just the suit unbuttoned, and... maybe I worry too much about color schemes in TF2.
I think Operator's Overalls looks pretty fitting on it. Regardless, I would prefer it if they would fix the team color bug so I could have the original Spy's tie color. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] Hmm... no, I think I like balaclava's better than Operator's Overalls. Operator's Overall's looks kinda odd on Blu still.
Done and ready to be workshopped and sent off to Valve?
While the differences are subtle and good, I don't think I would be able to tell the difference in the middle of a game.
Simple but noticeable. I like it.
Just make equalizer's head transparent and outline it, so it looks like it's white, and it's perfect.
While the differences are subtle and good, I don't think I would be able to tell the difference in the middle of a game.
I'm not able to tell the difference between a lot of the weapon icons anymore (in the heat of a game).
Some HUDs also make kill log smaller.
Done and ready to be workshopped and sent off to Valve?
It took me forever to notice the difference. This way seems like two different kill icons for the same weapon, which is confusing. Maybe if you tweaked the escape plan a bit? You could give it a white head, like someone else suggested. Other than that, it's really well-done and I'd like to see it ingame.
I know it's a bit late to the conversation, but could someone send me a code for the robot chicken hat so I can give it to my younger sister who's F2P? I did register on another email but I think I was too late D: Also I just remembered we still haven't had anything to use those SMG reload anims that appeared a while back.

Sorry, I misspoke. I sort of mean white, but not really. Like, a lighter gray intended to be white. I guess that's still not really clear at all, but what I mean is like the candy cane, here:
noo it would blend with the impact colour
So far all the ideas and suggestions are nice, but the outcome looks bad or simply aint do-able on such a small scale. The best solution for the mixup is to give the Escape Plan it's own unique model.
Shit, then. It's a shame the actual weapons are so similar. Doesn't really leave many options. I'm all for the current kill icon frying dutchman made, in this case. e: oh hello, frying dutchman.
If it makes you feel better, it's an atrociously ugly hat.
I disagree. It looks great for the engiee. [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/1172310087612398370/6B1A1C3B149F0EB7F93E9EB85C6D327180A0979D/[/t]
Workshopped, lets Valve takes a notice of this. Just another tiny detail that helps keeping TF2 nice.

Using that grey-scale on the now-Equalizer in order to highlight the blood splats instead of using red for that.
