"Look out!" Y/N?
"Look out!" Y/N?
Sort of. I would prefer this command to no command at all, although I'm worried it would not be specific enough to warn teammates of Snipers sometimes. It would also be incredibly redundant if it would only scream Sniper when you're aiming at the Sniper, and borderline cheating if just aiming near him or his dot would make you scream Sniper since that could make you detect Snipers just by spamming that button everywhere, so it couldn't be like the Spy command. I would settle for a "Look out!" call since it's better than not having anything, although I do wish we could have a more specific one for Snipers.
I don't know if source allows it easily, but class talking would be nice Heavy : "Nice kill Mr Demoman" Demo : "Aye, big guy, I'll drink to that" Heavy : "Doctor, will this work!?" Medic : "I have no idea! Let's try it!" Heavy : "Charge me up then Doctor!" Engineer : "Thanks for the help with that dang sapper" Pyro : "Mpph!!" Engineer : "Remind me later, I'll buy you a smoke" All of these would just be context specific uses of "Nice shot" "Charge me" and "Thanks" commands, just specific to the two classes and the action done. So On engineer.thanks{ if sapper destroyed Pyro && distance between Engineer and Pyro is < 100 units } Or whatever the response rules script would be
Heavy : "Nice kill Mr Demoman" Demo : "Aye, big guy, I'll drink to that"
The thought of Heavy calling someone Mister just sounds... terribly strange to me.
On engineer.thanks{ if sapper destroyed Pyro && distance between Engineer and Pyro is < 100 units } Or whatever the response rules script would be
if that was added to the game i would give you the biggest hug ever holy shit <3
if that was added to the game i would give you the biggest hug ever holy shit <3
there's no way to do it right now with response rules alone, they'd have to work in some of the context based stuff Dota and L4D2 has.
Hey ned, any idea why you can't wear any badges on Soldier when he wears the Pocket Medic?
right now the game knows a Pyro killed a sapper and can do a Pyro line for it. It does not know how close an ally engineer is, or if an ally engineer says thanks. Dota 2 has locational context. If heroes are close together, one will say "Hey old friend" or whatever if they're working the same lane. I figure they can take the location context from Dota 2 and piece it together with the response rules system already in TF2.
or just update to dota 2 engine that would be amazing
Cloth physics, cloth physics everywhere.
I've been wanting a "Sniper!" voice command ever since I realized Day of Defeat had it. Which was years ago back in the day when I played on nothing but cp_orange_x3 lol
A Sniper voicecommand would be awesome.
Cloth physics, cloth physics everywhere.
better hats :P holy shit that would be amazing. i'd shoot peoples hats instead of their heads.
I'd rather get shot in head.
I'd rather get shot in head.
I can arrange that.
also you can get infinite drops from badge system. just like battle points system in dota 2. (server.dll has some info about that)
I'm not very familiar with this. Can someone please explain it a bit for me?
I'm not very familiar with this. Can someone please explain it a bit for me?
As you play Dota you gain experience points after every game. The longer the game, the more points you get. After you reach a certain amount of points, you're guaranteed a hat
As you play Dota you gain experience points after every game. The longer the game, the more points you get. After you reach a certain amount of points, you're guaranteed a hat
I wonder if we'll get other items (Weapons) in this way. I really like this idea now, that means even after you hit your weekly cap, you can still get goodies just by playing.
As you play Dota you gain experience points after every game. The longer the game, the more points you get. After you reach a certain amount of points, you're guaranteed a hat
Are you guaranteed a hat or a cosmetic item (weapon/courier/etc.)? My friends just got me playing Dota 2, and none of them had any clue what battle points do.
Dota 2 only has hats and crates, leveling up guarantees a hat, while relying on drops can give you a crate instead of a hat and is entirely random
All this talk about voice commands reminds me of Tribes: Ascend, and that voice command system is actually pretty easy to understand once you get the hang of it. Imagine an entire update devoted to new voice lines and voice commands. :v:
Hey ned, any idea why you can't wear any badges on Soldier when he wears the Pocket Medic?
It has the heavy pocket equip region, which conflicts with badges regardless of class. The equip region code is not set up to allow class-specific regions that differ in what they conflict with from class to class.
Is there a level cap in Dota 2?
Dota 2 only has hats and crates
If you mean that literally, then it's not true. Dota 2 has lots of armor and cosmetic weapons.
leveling up guarantees a hat, while relying on drops can give you a crate instead of a hat and is entirely random
You mean leveling through battle points you receive by playing rounds? When do the drops occur, at the end of a round? I've only played in empty lobbies so far. The game is so foreign to me.
Indeed; there's so many more commands that could be used in TF2; a context-sensitive command for identifying classes could help. Replacing Sentry Ahead! with Target Ahead! could help; that way you could announce that something is there ("Yo there's a Sniper up there!"), plus they could rejigger Incoming! to do a similar thing, announcing that an enemy is approaching ("Bladdy Pyro coming roight at us!"). Another thing that could be done would concern Medic!; a merc could target an ally for Medics to heal ("Get this guy a band-aid, Doc!"/"Doc, this trooper needs meds pronto!"), plus it could double as an instruction to repair Engineer equipment ("Zis machine needs repairs!"). One last thing would be a Priority Target command, possibly exclusive to Scout, indicating which things need destroying, such as targeting machines or dangerous enemies ("Somebody take out dat freekin' Sentry!"/"Uh, dat Sniper ain't killin' himself fellas!"). An upgrade of communications, maybe even including a Portalesque "Pinger tool", would make team coordination much easier.
Do this, along with changing the voice menu to being like L4D/Portal 2's and you got my vote. The original menu worked in 2007, it needs a drastic overhaul now.
All this talk about voice commands reminds me of Tribes: Ascend, and that voice command system is actually pretty easy to understand once you get the hang of it.
SHAZBOT confirmed.
I don't know if source allows it easily, but class talking would be nice
I agree so very much. Left 4 Dead had it! Plus I think the game would really benefit from any sort of acknowledgement of certain teammates. I don't mean reactions to specific events like teleporting or healing, I just mean more generic things along the lines of, "Thanks, Eyepatch!" Friendly banter, I guess. It'd be nice to have a little ingame counter to all the taunts and class-specific insults, and kinda establish the sense of comradery you get from the comics and videos. Plus "[classname] IS BEST FRIEND" just plain seems like something the Heavy would say. One thing though: a back-and-forth might get really grating if you hear it multiple times. Maybe a "you're welcome" auto-response would work!
I think L4D cheats at it. The banter is at very specific scripted sequences, so it just pushes the play button and the voice lines play one after another once the event fires. TF2 might be able to cheat it that way, not sure though.
You underestimate just how proficient Valve is at taking shortcuts.
It's probably for the best, though. I think Left 4 Dead would be the only one able to use those cheats to pull of an actual conversation. L4D is a zillion different ultra-specific contexts, so they can get away with talking about things like Keith. Even if you heard it before, it's not like it's got any chance of approaching the level of, say, "NEWWW WEAPONNN" TF2 has a handful somewhat-specific events they could use to say longer lines, but probably not near the extent of L4D's. For example, if a certain class helps you push the cart across a point. Then you could say something that might be a bit longer, like "Pushing this cart has made me realize my true feelings for you, Sniper" But it would still be capable of happening each payload round, so I don't think the Sniper could respond with, "Yes, Scout. You are a good man. I wish you the best in your future." without running the risk of being boring or irritating Plus a TF2 team wouldn't be as tight-knit and protective, so the listener might have less patience? Why do I type so much uninteresting shit, christ
