L4D is also a linear experience, so you can have a very specific line trigger at a very specific location and assume everyone who needs to be there is there. That probably makes it way easier to implement than a game where the event to trigger the response can happen at any time [editline]18th July 2012[/editline] in a way, it seems they kind of wanted it in TF2. Heavy has some unused lines for "I killed your doctor, now it's time for you to die!" or something like that when he killed a Medic who was healing and then targets the patient. But there's not really a way to get it working in TF2's current response rules script
l4d is hardly dynamic if you kick the 3 bots and play by yourself, many times you will randomly hear voice lines from the other survivors spoken by your own character.
nedpost
Good point! Hadn't thought of that. Was it the one that's somewhere along the lines of "Your doctor is dead! MY doctor is still alive!" ? I love that one.

Really? Dang, I guess I was never in the position to hear it. While we're talking about this, would anybody know if the source engine would be able to find something "dynamic" remarkable? Uh, to be more clear (would dynamic even be the right word?), I mean things that aren't a permanent part of the world, nor gameplay-related Like a dove, or the remains of a dispenser. Probably not, right? That stuff might not even be seen the same way by each player, for all I know. Too bad. There could be some really great lines if there was a response rule for seeing body parts strewn about.
I always wondered how achievements work, or how they're coded. surely that could be useful in this case
Talking this idea out makes me want it really badly :( [21:14] <ballad> I think we'll get a large Borderlands 2 promo update with weapons and stuff [21:14] <ballad> in August [21:14] <Oktober> If that happens, i'm 100% buying it [21:14] <Oktober> specially cause BL2, wanna play it [21:15] <ballad> depends if I get a Sniper Bloodwing [21:15] <ballad> if I get Bloodwings as a weapon/misc then yep it's a buy [21:15] <ballad> gimme Sniper falconry [21:15] <Oktober> I'd expect more to see new items for the new characters than the old ones [21:16] <Oktober> or common items like the midgets mask [21:16] <Oktober> a.e [21:16] <ballad> shhhh, no, bloodwing [21:16] <Oktober> ;3 [21:17] <ballad> bloodwing for Sniper, scorpion turret for Engineer, phase bra for Spy and screw fists for Heavy [21:17] <Armisael> turret? yeah right [21:17] <ballad> quick deploy, low health, low line of sight, low fire rate, but a shield to block damage + slight healing [21:18] <ballad> no metal cost, uses a recharge bar. Part of a pipe melee weapon for Engineer [21:19] <ballad> Sniper gets bloodwing secondary. On use, flys around and attacks up to 3 people for 30 damage each, plus a random chance of spark (removes overheal completely), flame (causes afterburn), acid (causes bleed) or explosion (more damage) [21:20] <ballad> Phase is a quick use cloak that allows Spy to phase in an out quickly with no recharge, and can attack while cloaked, but cloak only lasts for 2 seconds and cannot decloak once cloaked [21:20] <Armisael> you're thinking new stat reskins? [21:20] <Armisael> rainbows [21:21] <ballad> Screw fists gib on kill, and when Heavy is ubered he gains double attack speed and 50% more damage [21:21] <ballad> but he moves slower while ubered
I highly doubt Valve would implement a brand new sentry for a promo.

They've never given the promos to people who bought a CE :(
I highly doubt Valve would implement a brand new sentry for a promo.
I can dream :(
I highly doubt Valve would implement a brand new sentry for a promo.
Way back in Christmas, when I first heard of the festives, I thought the Festive Wrench would give buildings Smissmas lights as well. Despite how awesome that would of been, I was fairly certain it wasn't going to ever happen. I also thought the Festive Sticky Launcher would launch spiky bobble ornamants.

Ned, does the El Jefe have unused textures that paint the whole hat? Something I've always wondered. I love that hat except for the green color of it.
Ned, does the El Jefe have unused textures that paint the whole hat? Something I've always wondered. I love that hat except for the green color of it.
Well I was doing something like that but if I submit it, Valve won't acknowledge it or add it.
Well I was doing something like that but if I submit it, Valve won't acknowledge it or add it.
Why's that?
for whatever reason Valve has decided to entirely ignore him, even so much as to not reply to people that normally get fast replies, when he's mentioned.
for whatever reason Valve has decided to entirely ignore him, even so much as to not reply to people that normally get fast replies, when he's mentioned.
That's rather unfortunate. I would love to have it team-colored or anything except that color of green that isn't really even olive drab. Edit: I was just looking at your paint fixes, Inspecter. I love you man; I didn't think anyone else had ever noticed how horrible the Cremator's looks when painted.
Quick Hypothetical: Remember when they nerfed the sandvich by not letting the heavy throw it for a quick self-heal? What if they instead decided to display the Sandvich Safe on any Heavy with a sandvich in his loadout? Would you have been happier? (of course, the S.S. wouldn't be a misc item in this scenario)

A minor thing from Pyromania I wish they'd do is this Infernal Orchestrina
Your BFFs (enemies) will turn their frowns upside down (confront their own mortality) as they dance a merry jig to (run in terror from) these cheery tunes (soul-destroying funeral dirges). (Equips Pyrovision.)
Outside of Pyroland it seems like, from the description, you'd hear horrifying music. However that doesn't happen. It would be a cool little thing for them to add, especially since the description already says it does it.

Besides, the taunt and the slowness of Heavy's weapon-switch already gives his opponents ample time to know he's healing.
Oh yeah, I agree. It's much too late to be any good now. I'm just playing what-if, is all!

If they make Borderlands 2 promos I'll be sad because I already pre-ordered the retail version :v: But I can see it happening, they're taking too much time to have a pre-order page on Steam for a reason. Probably after the summer sale.

Oh, and scout. "The freakin' sniper" is way too long to be quickly aware of an impending headshot. Actually only medic and heavy would really work, and medic is a bit of a stretch (assuming that you can interpret "Zhe sniper!" as "The sniper, watch out!", which is perfectly viable even if it'd take a bit to get used to.)

So for the scout, it wouldn't be "That freakin sniper" it'd just be "Sniper!"

but in the times we play nowdays, you can be sure there will be at least one or two snipers on each team. or worse, more than 2.
I'd be amazed if Gearbox even allowed Borderlands promo anything in TF2, judging how much the CEO insulted Valve in the past.
Wow. So relations have soured since the Half-Life expansions, I take it?

[editline]18th July 2012[/editline] But TBH, I don't think relations are that bad anymore. And if there was to be a Borderlands 2 promo, I'd bet ChemicalAlia would be behind it.
