It's been weird not having the "tonights the night" reason to roll out of bed on friday mornings. Also I'm betting on a new community item for $4.99 and a VERY basic hint that something is on the horizon for tf2.
So uhh, apparently somthing is happening today which I am not aware of. I read all the posts thus far and am still severely confused.
oh shit, really? actually, what do the swag bags contain?
It varies. Sometimes Tshirts, I once got a flashlight shaped like Wheatley, a glados themed iPhone skin... Grab bag, really.
So uhh, apparently somthing is happening today which I am not aware of. I read all the posts thus far and am still severely confused.
Something might happen today. We might get a new workshop item. We might a get a new map today or we might get a hint at a map. Or maybe even a non-map related hint at what's coming. Or we might get nothing. Today's forecast: Sunny with a chance of low expectations. Otherwise expect incoming showers (disappointment). [editline]26th July 2012[/editline]
Team Fortress 2 -Fixed a 2-year-old bug
If they finally figure out how to fix the black screen of death that has been plaguing a good portion Nvidia DX10 card generation users (8 series through 200 series) I would be satisfied with that. Then we can finally not have to play in dx8 mode to prevent the crash. Then again, Nvidia and Valve representatives have just started working on this, so I wouldn't expect a fix for a while...
-Added a hat for Steam Translators gaben pls
-Added a hat for Steam Translators gaben pls
They've needed one for a while. Haven't you guys finished the design for the STS cap a while back? More importantly STS needs Right to Left language support so that languages such as Hebrew, Arabic, etc. can be inserted into Steam.
That hat is pretty much a myth at this point :v: To me it seems it's taking so long because they didn't figure out a decent rewarding system yet, they're afraid people would get the hat and never show up in the translation server again... as if most new users don't do that already! A good portion of them just gives 5 translation suggestions and don't show up ever again after that. Or only the first applicant text, even. [editline]26th July 2012[/editline]
I gave up on STS when they did that stupid Dota 2 rewards thing :v:
Badly managed. There's still always a good chunk of work to be done on Dota, but many "translators" won't touch it ever again because they already got the rewards :v: Edit: And I'm also waiting for a ETF2L medal, but they still didn't figure out a medal design yet.
-Added a hat for Steam Translators gaben pls
I hope we'll get one when Dota 2 releases.
I gave up on STS when they did that stupid Dota 2 rewards thing :v:
Are you talking about this?: http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=48467 If that's not what you are talking about, mind filling me in? Then every two weeks or so award one or maybe two STS caps to those who have worked hard and earned it (people who clearly show intent to continue and have already put in a good amount of time). I'm not sure if this still exists today, but the official tf2 wiki had an excellent scoring system (although it was more of a guide than actually used to pick the next recipient). You can talk to whoever was responsible to maybe give tips on creating a system for STS (seriously the admins on the wiki are geniuses).
will this upcoming update(s) have been worth waiting around more than half a year for
The Wiki system has been suggested before, it seems they want to do something different. But I guess that they have other priorities, so nothing ever gets decided. It's not up to me after all. And Benlecyborg is probably talking about the Dota 2 translation period. When the beta phase started, they asked each language to form a team of translators - the goal was to translate Dota to 100%. The teams that reached that 100% would be rewarded with prizes. That 'official' period has ended and the 'official' teams were rewarded.
will this upcoming update(s) have been worth waiting around more than half a year for
It had better, Im starting to get sick of this waiting.
I meant when they put up that reward scheme so that when a team translated Dota 2 100% they get access to that shop where they can get real life goodies. Except it favoured only a handful of people despite it being a group effort and was just generally biased and unfair.

And Benlecyborg is probably talking about the Dota 2 translation period. It seems strange for Valve to not make-up for their mistake, but I have seen them not make up for their mistakes before. In other news, the Arabic translation group: ( http://steamcommunity.com/groups/arablang ) is 2000+ members strong and is willing to translate for the STS. Valve should get to Right to Left lang. support already so that Arabic can be added.

Under the current system, people nominate candidates for the cap, and once a week the staff (assuming they can get enough people) goes into a private IRC channel and discusses the nominees and decided who, if anyone, gets a cap that week.
I hope they add some summer hat for those badges we got

Only about 3 languages weren't rewarded, they took too long to get anything done. The only things there are to complain about is that not everyone in each team worked as much, and got the same rewards as the rest of the team. Also, Valve shouldn't have closed the official translation period so "early", because now there's hundreds of Dota 2 strings being added and many people won't help because they already got the prizes. I guess next time I'll have to be extremely careful in deciding which people get in and which ones don't. And I hope other languages get into Steam. Arabic is welcome.
I'm afraid of screwing up and wasting a suggestion
I know a Turkish mod who uses this message as avatar: "You don't get to 50000 approves without getting a few declines"´ You have nothing to fear if you're in a good team with good mods and admins. The spanish team is great. [editline]26th July 2012[/editline]
...and by the time I remember about STS, everything's already translated
...Yep. Too great.
I hope they add some summer hat for those badges we got
This was the first time I've ever gotten all the badge-related objectives done on any Steam-related event. I sure as hell hope that I get something out of it.
they added some materials for a PL rail, labeled for badlands. If Badlands supports PL, it will support nearly every game mode in the game, except for CTF, which ironically was the original game mode of the map in TFC.
Does it support PLR? Or TC? Or SD? Or training mode?
To be honest, saying that Alfie, I've never really thought of TC being its own gamemode. It's just another CP, if it was its own gamemode why isn't Steel treated the same?
-Added Jesus Christ
Jesus is OP valve I can't kill him because he can walk on water and respawn 3 days later. Nerf plz.
Jesus is OP valve I can't kill him because he can walk on water and respawn 3 days later. Nerf plz.
That is some serious respawn time.
That is some serious respawn time.
You will respawn in 259200 seconds. Hope you brought a book, as well as lots of caffine pills.
That is some serious respawn time.
Seems like a normal respawn time on some maps :v:
Jesus is OP valve I can't kill him because he can walk on water and respawn 3 days later. Nerf plz.
-No random critical miracles
-Added Jesus Christ
Wait until they patch his food multiplication exploit on the next update
Wait until they patch his food multiplication exploit on the next update
They need to fix the graphical error with water too, it seems to turn red when he touches it.
