Huh?
I thought the Meet The series would all be like Meet the Heavy; a peaceful interview with the mercenary, an insight into their thoughts, etc.
If I do have criticism about Meet the Pyro. It would be the choice of music, "Do you believe in Magic?" is one of the most hackneyed songs around and is near synonymous with Disney though I suppose that is why they chose it. My other major gripe is that all the classes are afraid of the Pyro. In the other videos, It makes sense for them to be worried. Meet the Medic: Medic has an ubered Heavy Meet the Spy: Spy takes them out one by one like a monster movie Meet the Sniper: Sniper picks them off from a distance Meet the Demo: Team is not scared of Demo but dies to a sticky trap Meet the Engie: Engineer has a level 3 taking them out slowly I forget how Solider, Heavy, and Scout kill the classes in their videos but to have 8 highly trained Mercenaries on a team be afraid of a single one was kinda too big of a logical gap.
Meet the Team videos tend to be grounded in reality to some extent. Headshots are instant kills with any weapon, for example. MTP plays off of the Serial Killer theme while allowing the viewer to mostly make the assumptions of what's going on during the 'POV' scenes. Setting and maintaining the serial killer vibe means having all the classes being afraid of the Pyro works, and it fits with his relatively unknown character: people are afraid of the unknown, especially if it has a flamethrower. You've also got to note that it appears as if the Pyro's attacking the team off base, in some shitty little old western town. There's junk from other classes scattered around the opening, possibly implying that the Pyro has been hunting the BLU team down, and now hes cornered them.
GOD FUCKING DAMN IT VALVE, RELEASE THE UPDATE ALREADY It's soon midnight here D: [editline]27th June 2012[/editline] What time is it in Valve's timezone?
It's already past midnight here. OH WELL looks like Europeans will get the "fuck you go to sleep" middle finger again.
Maybe they're waiting for Europe to go to sleep. More available servers...
You know, I think this is the first video in which the star isn't shown doing something heroric. It's a pure massacre on a town of defenseless people. Fits the pyro perfectly, have you ever seen them in the enemies spawn at the end of a round?
*Points to meet the Demo.*
I'm just saying, it'd be the first time I'd look at an item in TF2 and say, "wow, that is really fucking stupid." There's stuff I don't really care for, like the Carouser's Capotain and the Battle Bob, but those are just cosmetics. This is an item, taken from a hallucination, that kills people with rainbows. I mean, it's not enough to make me stop playing, but I'll be soundly disappointed if that's the case. Hopefully it still shoots fire (how would a rainbow-thrower even work? would it light people... on light?) or acts like the Griefblower (in that it's nothing but airblasts, which I can see considering it's a trumpet that shoots bubbles).
I'm thinking that if they get in, they'll be charred and rusted/thrown together versions of the dream items. Not the actual ones, those are too clean for TF2's environment. So like there'd still be a horn flamethrower, but each horn would be dented and rusting and covered with dirt and such. I think that'd look pretty awesome, tbh. And I'm pretty sure the colors would be dark red and dark blue like his other flamethrowes, not bright pink.
If they wanted to display a model only to the Pyro player, they'd do it in the game code, not hack around with model and LOD settings.
but the item will only be able to have one c_model, so they'll have to figure out a way to work with one c_model to accomplish two different models.
It's the female gender symbol turned sideways.
I thought it was supposed to be a key
GOD FUCKING DAMN IT VALVE, RELEASE THE UPDATE ALREADY It's soon midnight here D: [editline]27th June 2012[/editline] What time is it in Valve's timezone?
Probably around 2PM or so.
2:10pm EDIT: Ninjas
You called?
but the item will only be able to have one c_model, so they'll have to figure out a way to work with one c_model to accomplish two different models.
Bodygroups :U
Was Meet the Pyro release around the same time as Day 2 yesterday? If so, It would be fair to wait later for Day 3 since Meet the Pyro was today's big event.
*Points to meet the Demo.*
The Demo stands there and drinks while half of blue teaam come for his throat. PS: Remember how the scattergun is seen falling from the scouts hands in the teaser photo? It's not even in the video. Aside from the demoman at the start I think the Pyro is the only one seen holding a weapon.
I wonder what Hadouken looks like to Pyro
You can type in google: "what time is in bellevue wa" and it will show current time.
I wonder what Hadouken looks like to Pyro
Maybe he is throwing feathers or sparkles.
I'm thinking that if they get in, they'll be charred and rusted/thrown together versions of the dream items. Like the Pyro tried to bring his visions into the real world and ended up with some darkly whimsical hunk of garbage that lights people on fire.
I just noticed that the Engineer when zooming out in the class photo has a worried expression, but when it's fully zoomed out he looks smug again.
I saw the whole video as just a metaphor for how the pyro enjoys what he does, not necessarily how he ACTUALLY sees it. I think that yeah, he sees the Heavy's blood splatter all over the place when he splits his head open with a fireaxe, but he gets the same enjoyment doing it that someone would have from giving a lollypop to a baby. In another example, at the end when he's walking off, doing a little skip away from the soldier, then it cuts to him simply walking away, the skipping is just how he feels about what he's done. He knows, I'm pretty sure, that he's murdered and burned everything, but he doesn't have any remorse doing so. The idea that that's how he actually sees everything (sparkly rainbows and kitten farts) is pretty entertaining, but I don't think that's actually the case, nor does it make sense that someone would rage about how it was portrayed. This video wouldn't be nearly as disturbing as it is now, if it was all just death and gore. You just have to think about it for a moment instead of taking it at face value like all of SPUF is.
After all, most of the Pyro's weapons were hand-made by him. He can't possibly have made a working flamethrower without knowing exactly what he was doing. He just likes to use it because it makes him happy. Which is also why I seriously hope that the "weapons" we saw in MtP aren't actually getting in-game, because it wouldn't make any sense. edit: unless they turn them into not-candyland versions, then that's fine, and that's what I hope happens.
I just realized something. They didn't add that ending theme in Meet the Pyro, along with the zooming toward the Pyro's face.
http://steamcommunity.com/id/wetaworkshop/myworkshopfiles?appid=440 From Weta themselves.
doesn't mean they have to go in game anytime soon, or even at all
I thought the Meet The series would all be like Meet the Heavy; a peaceful interview with the mercenary, an insight into their thoughts, etc.
You try talking to a psychopathic arson. It was an interview, of his teammates, because they probably lock him up between rounds.
The new flamer should appear like a crappy flamer to everyone but the pyro equipping it. To them it would be the one in MtP.
I just noticed that the Engineer when zooming out in the class photo has a worried expression, but when it's fully zoomed out he looks smug again.
what if it's a sign that he won't get any items oh god
someone asked for this way back There ya go.

So someone requested me to remove the rainbow parts from Meet the Pyro, here's the result. My favorite is the Source Film Maker part at the end.
So is there something in the schema or whatever that's designed to drop valuable things like nametags and salvaged crates on free to players?
what if it's a sign that he won't get any items oh god
Subtle, Valve. Subtle.
