Valve should've revealed this at the moment L4D2 ships. That way it wouldn't seem "gimmicky" and would be more of a delightful surprise. And may make L4D2 pre-orderers buy TF2, which is far less gimmicky.

It's only really fun with friends and once you play the campaigns they get old. Sure, every now and then you boot it up to play a new custom campaign, but even still it gets old.
Almost all coop games are like this.
I was on the fence about L4D2 (I didn't buy L4D1) but this does make it seem slightly more enticing.

They've been offering the preorders without the hat for a while before now. Now they're throwing in an extra part to the deal and you're mad?
Think about it: you're angry because you want that fucking hat soooo badly but you don't want to preorder L4D2 just to get it.
1. Hats aren't that big of a deal to begin with. They're nice to have, but they really don't add that much to the game.
2. If you don't actually want L4D2 but you preorder just to get the hat, then you're just as bad as those people you hear about who pay hundreds of dollars of real money to get items in WoW or Everquest.
If Valve starts charging money just to buy hats, maybe then you can start complaining. But even then, [b]they're just hats[/b]. They don't affect the actual "game" of TF2 at all! You guys should stop being angry at Valve and start being angry at yourselves for being unable to overcome your compulsion to collect every single item in the game - no matter how useless it is.
