Soldier Service Medal - Games

I'd say the Medal is probably worth an unusual hat and possibly more. Then again as some people have pointed out, not to everyone. The medal is rare as hell, so naturally not everyone who wants one is going to have an easy time getting their hands on it. This makes it very valuable. On the other hand, it's small and hard to notice so a lot of people probably think something that stands out as much as an unusual hat isn't worth something so tiny and hard to notice.

Right now the medal is about as rare as Ze Goggles, and other hats in that bracket. So really its' not [i]that[/i] rare. However since it can no longer be obtained, the rarity will continue to increase as players come and go from the community, taking their medals with them. People trading for them right now are likely operating under the idea that the best time to trade for the medal is now (or yesterday), as its value will only increase over time. However I wonder how many of these people are thinking twice now that the lugermorph has had a second run. As for trading an unusual, people trading them away are probably working under the idea that while its a bad trade today, it's a great trade a year from now when unusuals will be significantly less rare.

I want to get an unusual just so I can trade it for the medal.

I wish I lived in the US when people got their medals but I'm stuck in Europe. Off-Topic: If anyone wants to trade theirs I've got a Vintage Tyrolean and Vintage panama up for trade.

The problem with this is that anyone who has it knows it's worth quite a bit, having being smart enough to find a hidden link (Wasn't this how you got it?)

I firmly believe that all of this stuff is worth it only if you like it. If you get an offer of some stuff that you really like, then I would say it's a good trade. If you hate the offer, then it would be a bad one. I recommend keeping the medal, though. Not only is it rare, but I hear it increases your chance to fire Crockets.

Get real tho, the only reason most people want a medal/vintage goggles/event item/other popular item for is to try and sell it on for more profit. I only trade for things I like the look of or need, and haggle my way down to a sensible trade the few times I have needed to trade. It is better than abiding by the shit rules the community imposes (l0L hat 4 16 Gunz!!!111!). And I will not trade the Medal due to its rarity. I spent an entire night awake, that medal was the fruit of my insomnia. Though the Crocket boost is false, I have worn it since day 1 and the chance seems exactly the same.

i'd say the medal is worth an unusual but not an unusual with a good effect.. that's why i'm currently trading my unusual soldier's stash with green confetti for a medal and already have some offers on the steam forums.

I accidentally deleted my medal shortly after obtaining it. I was trying to delete duplicate weapons and, at the time, selecting more than one item at once (which had just been introduced) was just clicking on them (as opposed to ctrl-clicking). I realized too late that I still had my medal selected from admiring it and whatnot. Steam Support won't give it back, either, since it happened before the halocaust (in which I had all my items removed). Ah well, it makes for an interesting tale, at least.

Don't trade your service medal,all the idiots are saying that are worthless to get one for a bunch of hats and later trade it for 5 unusuals (Like the Sam and max stuff,at first people was trading the items for nothing,and now with all the farmers they want 5 hats for a single gun or the max head)

I have a Medal, but I certainly don't think it's worth an Unusual, that's just ridiculous. I mean a hat with a great effect that's really noticeable with colors, etc is waaaaay better than a Medal that no one sees or even wears (because Earbuds are way cooler). Hardly anyone wore the Medals and then when they became tradable everyone was like, "OOOOHHH SHIT!!!!! SOMEONE TAKE MY MEDAL......I-I MEAN....yeah...hold on, gimme ur backpack? Please?" Gimme a break.

I traded the Gentleman's Service Medal for A Vintage Seargent's Drill Hat, Vintage Master's Yellow Belt, Vintage Gentleman's Gatsby, and an Old Guadalajara. I think thats fair. Im happy, and thats all that matters to me.

Gimme a break.[/QUOTE] For one of the rarest items in the game, which will never drop again I assume, yeah, a Unusual isn't a big loss. I would say the Earbuds are pretty shit, the only class they fit even slightly would be Scout, at a push, Engineer. The Medal isn't noticeable, but it is a nice thing to have, at least it fits the theme of the game unlike the Earbuds.
