Think just a little.
Lots of people open crates -> Lot of items appear at the same time -> Contributors/valve gets more money -> Since the items gets more widespread, trade value goes down -> YOU (yes you) can get it for a refined, and not 3 or 4 keys like the fast learner and friends.
You don't loose anything with crates, if you don't want to reward the contributors you just have to wait a week.
