Finally, a use for all those worthless nametags I've got lying around!
I've already got every stock weapon in my backpack.
I posted in the game hub why I think it's happening; might as well post it here. This is just what I think, I'm probably wrong or something. "They're doing this because the hats are the most unappreciated and were taken advantage of. When the class bundles first came out, those exact 9 hats were sold in each of them and the price of the bundles were a dollar. Valve noticed that people were just buying the bundles for the hats to craft, so they made it so that anything you buy isn't craftable. People kept buying the hats though so that they could sell them for easy metal. Later on, Valve made it so that the anything you buy is craftable, but they removed those exact hats from their bundles. Now they're removing them from the store, crafting, drop, and unusual system completely. They're probably trying to make the hats have more value because they were the 9 original hats that seem to be the least popular. Once they become "retired," they will probably fly in value after a while like the Max's head or any of limited edition items."
Do you work for Valve or something? I'm curious.
i have a contract with them that i signed back in 2010, but i am not employed by them i get paid at the end of every month for coldfront stamps, coldfront filters, the head warmer, the plutonidome, and the scarecrow but that's just something that pays me at the end of every month my actual job is in a kitchen at a local wine bar
I have uncraftable Pyro's Beanie... Does that make it a hat that's been discontinued twice? Edit: Just realised i have an uncraftable Fro too....
"TF2 died after trading/economy/whatever" I really don't get it when people say these. These things are cosmetic items. They're hats, suits, whatever. They don't change the game. You can play as much as you want without giving a shit to them. Having a hat won't change the fact that I can still blast people with my Sniper Rifle or turn them to ashes with my Flamethrower. You guys are taking this up to eleven, and treating what should be costumes like the existence or non-existence of them will change the game. And you know what? It won't! This whole bullshit about TF2 died is simply people going "hurr I don't like hats". You don't like hats? Fine. Don't use the stupid hats. Nobody's forcing you to use hats. You don't like people going "TRADE THIS HAT FOR THIS HAT"? Fine. Then don't go to servers where there are people doing that. And by the way, TF2 hasn't "died". I still play it every single freaking day, and I know people that still play it every single freaking day, and when I open my Server Browser, there's like 1500 servers filled with people playing.
Got a V.Batter's Helm because i like scout. I hope its price raises, i dont wanna to feel guilty for buying it.
It's time for some conspiracy paraonoia!
the big bad military men are coming to take our GUNS AWAY USA IS FALLING APART
Oh, and by the way, of course they want to get more money from these hats. Except it won't make a goddamn difference in the game whether these hats exist or not.

I feel we should have seen this coming, really. I guess this is a semi-clever thing to do, business-wise: 1. there's gonna be a ton of sales before those items retire, all of which are very likely the least purchased items 2. This is gonna light a fire under the steam market's ass, for obvious reasons 3. it somewhat deals with the overwhelming (possibly bordering on too many) amount of hats 4. it'll add more long-term value to crates. The bizarre thing is, why now? What the hell, telling us about it like this just makes it bad news. Why didn't they sneak it in with the Christmas Update, or some other instance where they were adding new hats? Other than making it sound like "we're phasing out some old as we put in some new!", they just flat out said "we're killing these hats." Anyway, I'm curious what this means for community creators. More likely than not, none will be retired for a very long time, if at all (the subtle soldier blaming was nice, but good god, let's give him a rest already)
Only thing I got is a normal Fedora, one of my steam friends has 5/9 of the hats, one being a unusual flaming pyro beanie. Predict this is gonna happen if anyone steps into a server with a unusual of one of these 9 hats [sub][sub]Imagine those being traders[/sub][/sub]

By the way, consider this: the batter's helm is retired, but the bonk helm isn't I feel sorry for anyone that used that recipe.
oh god people, are you really this insane about a bunch of hats youreally never cared about in the last 4 years? with the amount of unique ones floating around, i'd take years to make them rare enough to warrant an increase in their prices, and that only if people made an holocaust out of crafting them wich is at the same time highly unlikely since "you cant get them back anymore". at best, they wont be considered craft hats and thats all. vintage versions are already limited and you already cant get them in any way thats not trading, so anyone who overprices them is just an idiot. the only ones who will go up in price will be unusuals since they are the only ones who will be extremely hard to obtain. let alone halloween.themed unusuals. therefore, these will be the only ones who will ever be really expensive. even if you love these hats so much for their cosmetic value, there are almost an equivalent of them all in the game, and in some cases more than one. and even if you cant afford them, there are plenty of mods to get them on your head for your own, personal pleasure. this is just another hat joke, probably the biggest hat joke ever told, but in the end we all know how fun "hat jokes" have been for the last 4 years.
Damn, I was going to sell my unusual fancy fedora on the steam market. In one way this is good, because the price of mine might go up. I really don't want to put it too high though. But then it's bad, because I have to go to sourceop or something and use a middle man, instead of just using the steam money. Argh
I WANTED to use that recipe... Aw, lets hope they introduce 9 fitting hats to compensate, and less promo crap.

Watch them re-release the same hats with different names. Not to trick people into thinking they're new hats, to prove themselves right while still keeping the old ones. I don't know how I'd feel about it.
Time to get a clean Fancy Fedora while I still can, and start using desc tags on these. I was thinking of this, if we sparked enough outrage, who knows they might cancel it.
Look at the bright side guys Now the robot version of those hats the fine people at the Emporium are making have a chance of getting in :v:
Boss, look at all those highly rated items in the Workshop. Do you reckon we should add some? NO LET'S GET RID OF THE FIRST ICONIC SET THAT WILL MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY

And I say, this is a fucking great start for this year.
Fuck, the only one I have right now is the fedora and the stash. There goes the refined I've been saving, the fro is so badass. I don't play scout very often, but getting a batters helment might not be a bad idea.
I am calling it now, the next set they are going to be evil by retiring is The Bonk Helm, Stainless Pot, Brigade Helm, Officer's Ushanka, Engineer's Cap, Otolaryngologist's Mirror, and Master's Yellow Belt.
Go find a vanilla server or something like that.
So your response is "find a server where the community has fixed what the dev has done" which is like saying I should get mods that fix my game when it doesn't work that's a stupid answer
