Valve stopped giving a legitimate fuck about the game the instant it became F2P. It's just a money-maker to them, now.
....... oh god thinking about it kinda makes sence they have the workshop so they can just fucking take items and ideas away from people and make the textures or just out right take the textures and change it and the name or description and put it in the game
I have no problem with this. It's not like these hats are really that rare... Edit: But damn are there some crybabies in this thread. How about trying to use this change to your advantage instead of whining?
I have no problem with this. It's not like these hats are really that rare...
didn't you know? they are exclusives now, but maybe you can take my fro for an earbuds
Everyone is over-reacting as shit. http://stats.tf/item/47/Demoman%27s_Fro There are literally 45,000 Fros around right now, 16,000 of which are vintage. They're by no means in short supply and will likely only go up by a rec or something once the dump-ass traders are done freaking out.
except unusuals won't happen of them anymore
didn't you know? they are exclusives now, but maybe you can take my fro for an earbuds
I offer 1 reclaimed. Best I can do.
except unusuals won't happen of them anymore
oh my god thats it im quitting tf2 now because i wont have a chance to unbox unusual demoman fro.
Valve stopped giving a legitimate fuck about the game the instant it became F2P. It's just a money-maker to them, now.
And that's why they add free content all the time. Because they don't give a fuck. Yes. This makes perfect sense.
And that's why they add free content all the time. Because they don't give a fuck. Yes. This makes perfect sense.
are you some kind of idiot by having a game that you don't HAVE to pay for, but can buy items for, you make far more money then just charging a flat rate (ie 20 bucks, then you get everything in the game forever) they keep adding things so people will buy more stuff, and they add stuff for people to buy seriously, it's fucking simple. people spend more on keys then they would've on the regular retail price of tf2
demoman's fro with heart effects i want 500 dollars.
In 2+ years of TF2, I have spent about 300€ on the store. 150 on keys I think.
As some people have said in this thread, the original 9 hats have long been considered the benchmark for hats that fit the theme of the game, but their value has been significantly diminished since the ingame econonmy materialised. People no longer dress for aesthetic appeal, they dress for status. And while I agree that's an incredibly superficial reason to implement such a massive change, the upside to this is that it will rejuvinate the presence of these items in the game like back in 2009. I wouldn't mind them to do the same for some of the more unpopular items, but I know I'm probably alone on that.
are you some kind of idiot by having a game that you don't HAVE to pay for, but can buy items for, you make far more money then just charging a flat rate (ie 20 bucks, then you get everything in the game forever) they keep adding things so people will buy more stuff, and they add stuff for people to buy seriously, it's fucking simple. people spend more on keys then they would've on the regular retail price of tf2
Yes, that much is obvious to everyone. But why the fuck would you care that they make money if it means more free stuff to you? I'm seriously starting to think the TF2 fanbase is worse than Sonic's.
I'm gonna wear these hats in honour of this economical tragedy.
Once again. That's not the fucking point. The point is they're wasting time doing this for no reason when otherwise they could be fixing things, or putting in NEW content. This will change nothing and is just absolutely pointless.
This takes basically no thought to do. If you're thinking this is happening instead of weapon balances you're wrong. [editline]11th January 2013[/editline]
except unusuals won't happen of them anymore
If you want to be upset over hats with ugly effects on them that's fine.
I'm gonna wear these hats in honour of this economical tragedy.
Don't forget to put description of 'Gone but Not Forgotten' or 'In Memoriam' with date added - date removed
In the next Saxxies, will we have an Oscars style montage of hats that passed away in the last twelve months?
Someone once told me that my dirty Trophy Belt and Soldier's Stash were worthless and I might as well delete them. Heh. Also, My first ever hat was a Stainless Pot and I love that thing more than any Unusual in the world. If the day comes when the Classless update hats stop dropping, I'm only going to love it more.
Valve getting rid of hats. Im actually frightened what they might do next.

While reading reactions to this, I was proven again that the large majority of the TF2 community has no idea how Valve operates. I am specifically pointing towards reactions such as: "Valve wants to destroy the economy!", "They'll make earbuds craftable!", "They have no reason to remove old hats!", "They'll remove weapons too!" Seriously? Do some of you not realize that they deliberately want to create a demand within the playerbase for specific items? First of all: Rare items will not be made craftable, unless Valve wants to be nice. If anything, they would sell them on the Mann-co store, as that would at least generate SOME revenue. But that would most likely still not be as profitable as keeping them rare in the game. Players buy lots of keys from the Mann-co store in order to buy rare items from other players. This continues indefinitely, as the number of these items will stay low, and as such, the demand for these items will stay high, creating more key sales. If they were to be craftable or buyable from the store, the number of these items would drastically rise, lowering the demand for them. Removing older hats is a follow-up to making all store bought hats craftable. People will have a higher demand for those hats, and when they are craftable as well, there's no reason players shouldn't buy them from the store, as they get no loss in value. Lastly, Valve will NOT remove any weapons that are NOT reskins from availability in the game. They have kept the actual gameplay as separated as possible from the economy. (There are exceptions of course, such as the polycount hats.) That's also why we find many more weapons than we find hats and misc items. And I believe that community contributed items aren't going to be removed as well, as that'd be simply unfair.
All of this
You do know what jokes are right? Sarcasm doesn't display well through text. [editline]11th January 2013[/editline] Some of the points are actually concerns, but a lot are just mindless nitpicks poking fun at the economy.

[editline]11th January 2013[/editline] Some of the points are actually concerns, but a lot are just mindless nitpicks poking fun at the economy.
I am convinced that at least 50% of them are dead. fucking. serious.
In all seriousness though, if they continue this, can we expect them retiring community made hats? (because that would REALLY cross the line)
I am convinced that at least 50% of them are dead. fucking. serious.
Take it with a grain of salt. Let people have their fun. The idea that people believe community items will be removed worries me though.
In all seriousness though, if they continue this, can we expect them retiring community made hats? (because that would REALLY cross the line)
They already restricted some, it wouldn't be much of a bigger thing.
yes it would
guys, this is really not valves fault its saxton hale we should point fingers at
Retiring Community hats would mean would mean they create an artificial demand for the item from which only they themselves profit (at least, assuming these hats end up on the steam market) Sure, the mann co sales would rise if there's a 2 week announcement beforehand, but it's still the biggest dick move you could possibly make towards contributors
guys, this is really not valves fault its saxton hale we should point fingers at
If Saxton had only approved a fridge-based Hat/Misc. Then Soldier could've stored his mayonnaise better.
"TF2 died after trading/economy/whatever" I really don't get it when people say these. These things are cosmetic items. They're hats, suits, whatever. They don't change the game. You can play as much as you want without giving a shit to them. Having a hat won't change the fact that I can still blast people with my Sniper Rifle or turn them to ashes with my Flamethrower. You guys are taking this up to eleven, and treating what should be costumes like the existence or non-existence of them will change the game. And you know what? It won't! This whole bullshit about TF2 died is simply people going "hurr I don't like hats". You don't like hats? Fine. Don't use the stupid hats. Nobody's forcing you to use hats. You don't like people going "TRADE THIS HAT FOR THIS HAT"? Fine. Then don't go to servers where there are people doing that. And by the way, TF2 hasn't "died". I still play it every single freaking day, and I know people that still play it every single freaking day, and when I open my Server Browser, there's like 1500 servers filled with people playing.
I fucking love TF2 anyways.
