I need to get a Stash, a Fro, a Pickelhaube, a Trophy Belt and a Mining Light, fast!
Also, I just realised. The Batter's Helmet is required for the recipe to make a Bonk Helm, does that mean Valve is getting rid of the recipe aswell?
So far the only sound reason I've seen theorized so far is that this is an attempt to drive up key sales in the store, because people will be panicking and buying keys from the store to trade them for the retired items.
Either that, or it's an experiment by the Economist to see how the community and the market would immediately respond to the concept of items being "retired." Congrats, the market predictably panicked. You have successfully created the most predictable scenario in the world.
I'm glad I have a stormy storm mining light, but pissed that they would do this.

You can still use them in crafting
and I sold my unusual pickelhaube two days ago.
thanks for the notice
I'm predicting this is paving the path for these items being added to steam market
It makes sense. Scarcity drives up value, higher value trades means higher transaction fees for Valve.
Oh christ, Valve.
What are you DOING.
You're making me want to get a Vintage Football Helmet before it's made to be worth a truckload by people who love to induce panic. Fuck.
I have vintage black pickelhaube.
This is gonna be good.
Oh shit I really wanted a Batter's Helmet :(
That's fucking stupid.
Fancy Fedora is best spy hat.
Don't deny it.
This and the Cosa Nostra.
It makes sense. Scarcity drives up value, higher value trades means higher transaction fees for Valve.
I really doubt that they're doing this for the extra money.
I mean, the hats already have incredible markup, they're virtual ffs.
amazing change 10/10 please continue to make strange decisions and create more bugs than get fixed
This new TF2 team is retarded fire them and bring in a new one
Trophy Belt, Mining light, Batters Helmet and Fro are my favourite hats. :suicide:
Oh god with will happen with vintage versions of these hats?
This and the Cosa Nostra.
No fez? Aw...

WHAT IS VALVE GOING TO GAIN FROM THIS?
WHAT THE FUCKING HELL.
They should publish numbers or something. I want to see how many there are in existence.
This will do nothing else than make trading these hats a nightmare.
I've got 3/9, all vintage. Woohoo.
So the crafting recipe to make a Bonk Helm becomes a parallel to using dollar bills as toilet paper.
It's like they're trying to drive the community away from TF2
this is the beginning of the end, gentlemen
I have vintage black pickelhaube.

The same amount of vintages exist whether they retire or not. Nothing will happen to vintage.
hmf, I really do like the picklehaube too.
I just realized, it's like a trading card game now or something.
God tf2 went down the shitter.
What.
They've never retired any Dota 2 items..
The timebreaker or whatever was a stolen submission that was retired and replaced with a new vintage version and a new model, it's equivalent to retirement kinda.
Completely removing any way to obtain the hats other than trading is stupid, i hope they don't do this with other items.
Nooooo my loved and amazing Fancy Fedoras ;~;
One my most loved hats, why Valve? WHY? Stop messing around with TF2. That poor game needs some proper love :c

Yeah, but Valve loves to use the TF2 economy as a testbed and $$$ is easy to translate into stats and figures.
