I really like the Batter's Helm, but I sold my Vintage one over a year ago. Now I'm forced to get one before they're gone/super rare.
Huh? How do you mean?
Well, the store is making a bunch of money, and they made it available online which make purchases even easier. Also transaction fees on the Steam Market.
I honestly don't see what purpose this removal serves, except making money
I hope they start removing the bad hats eventually
Oh god.

Time to use "Block trade requests".
Vintage won't change in price.
Only unusuals will.
This isn't like valve
I don't think this is really the first time what people would view as Valve's 'ideals' and TF2's reality have not matched up. But as they have said many times, TF2 is one big ongoing experiment for them.
I have every vintage version of the original 9 but the Trophy Belt and Football Helmet.
Even with 7/9, i'm scared about future friend requests just being someone asking if my retired hats are for sale.
Valve...this accomplishes nothing.
TF2 is making Valve a lot of money. Thus the attempt to make more money through expiring items is uncalled for.
I'm with you in this one, they are making almost 400 thousand bucks with a couple of cosmetics a year, there's absolutely no need to do this, I keep wondering why.
This isn't like valve
I think that's the meat of this whole feeling a lot of people have. It's just really out of character and different than any other thing they've done with TF2.
I read through page 3, and I'm not sure if anyone brought up this yet. But
"Q: What is happening to this set of nine hats in two weeks?
A: These items will no longer be sold in the store, randomly dropped, unboxed as unusuals, or acquired through crafting. "
"Q: What about older crates that have these items as a potential drop?
A: Crates that contain these items will still have a chance at unboxing them in normal quality only. "
They're still in old crates, at normal quality however. But it never states that they won't appear in future crates. They just won't drop, be a random/specific craft, or unusual. Perhaps they could make later salvaged crate series contain these hats?
Oh wow, Batter's Helm is 5 dollars? I had suspected they'd be decent enough to make these items go on sale.
I wish Valve leaves the market as it is, no hats or equipment for any game. I can agree in being able to sell usable items and would be nice if they added a way to sell in game currency (Spiral Knights is the only one i think its possible to do this), but letting people sell shit with any price over 200$ is stupid.
Letting people sell shit over $200 isn't stupid.
It's the people willing to pay that much, they're the stupid ones.
This is just Valve testing to see if it induces panic buying on items that are rarely bought in the store
Quite a good concept, monetizes items that most people usually don't want to pay for
But as far the as the end user goes, this is entirely pointless, except for the odd "My hat is discontinued" dick waving.
was thinking about this, but these hats have been dropping for four years now, and are common as fuck
Vintage won't change in price.
Only unusuals will.
This time it touches all quality of hats.
Maybe only x2 for the normal ones, but vintage gonna be much expensive.
Unusuals are already expensive as fuck, so it wouldn't change a lot.
Calm your titties, if anything, only vintages and unusuals will get effected. There's so many of the normal quality hats that they're like bread.
If Valve wanted me to have a reason to hate them.
This is it.
I only want the uncraftable ones. I hope those don't go up in price too.
Calm your titties, if anything, only vintages and unusuals will get effected. There's so many of the normal quality hats that they're like bread.
Until they get panic crafted, then there are less normals.
You wouldn't get as much as with a vintage or unusual, but you'd still get alot.
I just realised something.
ROBLOX did something just like this a long while back - They retired the original cosmetics from the start and called them "Collector's Items".
Now you're only able to get such items from private sellers. Funnily enough, one of the items was a Fedora.
Calm your titties, if anything, only vintages and unusuals will get effected. There's so many of the normal quality hats that they're like bread.
Doubt it. Traders are going to take any excuse to jack prices up, like that "Russians are feeding keys into the "mannconomy", therefore the prices should rise by two reclaimed and stay there." dealio.
Calm your titties, if anything, only vintages and unusuals will get effected. There's so many of the normal quality hats that they're like bread.
No, only the unusuals will be affected dramatically.
Vintage figures stay the exact same as pre-retirement.
Unique variants, craftable or not, are common as dirt and won't see a significant price spike due to their sheer numbers.
Son of a BITCH. I was JUST thinking about collecting a set of the original nine hats just for nostalgia's sake to wear every now and then. I really need to start acting on these ideas more often.
I'm predicting this is paving the path for these items being added to steam market
I think you're absolutely right. It'd make a lot of sense.
Until they get panic crafted, then there are less normals.

Think about this.
Genuine Dead Cone.
When the game Plants vs. Zombies was released, it was only worth 1 refined.
There are shittons of them in genuine form, due to people liking the franchise, or the idiots wanted the hat.
Today, they are 1.33 refined. Woah. Difference there.
Kind of a bad comparison, but it's still pretty relevant.
I have three of those hats. Fedora, Fro and Picklehaube. I don't get why they'd do this. Of all the hats, these were some of the best themed.
And also think about it this way: Is anyone going to pay more than 1 key for a hat that has been worth around 1 refined since birth?
And to be fair, that's only because it's craftable.

Vintages are already "retired" technically, you can't get them by crafting, buying, or random drops, only trading. So its not like they are any rarer from this update.
The same goes for regular hats, there are already enough in the economy so that the prices should not inflate. The only reason rare items in games such as party hats in runescape got incredibly rare is because they were completely useless before they got discontinued, so nobody really cared about them and just threw the party hats away, making them incredibly rare and expensive in the later years of the game. These discontinued hats are not rare right now, and probably never will be.
Meanwhile I'm just sitting here with an uncraft Soldier's Stash that hasn't been obtainable since November 29th.
If values on these hats go anywhere, I might have a perfect storm.

Vintages had the same stock since they added them, theres no reason for the price raise, and i can barely see they selling normal ones for an extra ref because of the shitload of them in the market.
